Im just grateful that I live in a world of technology that lets me explore these documentaries that are so well made. In my day I had to go to the library to find out books that were so out of date
I thought I had seen most everything from David Adams, then I find this gem! Some of his absolute best work. Fantastic. I have seen hundreds of archeology/history documentaries...and this series is a real winner. Anyone else interested in Alexander the great, I would highly recommend "In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great" by Michael Wood, Its a similar long format documentary adventure tracing the life of Alexander.
Such an interesting ... There are so very few videos about this part of the world. I wish there were more... it's just so fascinating! Thank you for this video!!😊❤
“As members of the Greek race and speakers of the Greek language, the Macedonians shared the ability to initiate ideas and create political forms”. N. G. L. Hammond, from his notable work “The Miracle that was Macedonia”.
Old video but fascinating. Haunting imagery, music, and the thought that ancient seas and waterways existed thousands of years ago is in itself haunting.
@@flashgordon6670 Hahaha! We can always have some fun, even with the most serious things. I ain't got a prob with that. But it's still unfair. So many antiquities have been removed from Greece during the Ottoman occupation. The majority has to be returned.
👍🇨🇦 Extraordinary Documentary 🇦🇺 David Adams, Photo-Journalist 🎉 Totally enthralled by your team’s journey 🌟 Congratulations 🎊 Very Well Done ! Your spirit, and personality, speaks volumes about your achievements to negotiate, and navigate extremely challenging environments ! 6:17 The dating is correct as far as we know. The Siege of Troy was around 1183 BC. Talaus/Talaon, son of Bias, was one of the Argonauts. He fathered Adrastos who fathered Deipyle who mothered Diomedes who went to Troy. So if you add 20y from Talaus to Adrastos, 20y from Adrastos to Deipyle, 20 years from Deipyle to Diomedes and 20 years from Diomedes to the age required he needs to be an adult, you get 80 years then you add it to the 1183, and then you get 1263 BC.
You should do an episode on the genetic experimentation going on in California. This doctor has an embryo lab where he’s discovered how to alter embryo gender, eye color and hair color. It’s crazy stuff I learned about it in my anthropology class lol
Aussies. You could tunnel down the most remote cave in Tora Bora, Afghanistan, and there'd still be a late middle age Aussie male, eager to tell you about his 38 year adventure travelling the world. The type who 'hates the Pommies!' but spent 9 years earning minimum wage as bar staff in Shepherds Bush whilst sharing a two room flat with an ever changing cast of travellers. If your 42, sharing a room in London with 2 Aussies & 1 Kiwi you hardly know. You went from adventure to tragedy.
"As the crow flew 2,300 years ago". Crows couldn't fly before about 900AD. That why all ancient and medieval depictions of crows show them standing, possibly walking, NEVER flying. Also the fossilised remains for crows are very much grounded. Not one of them as ever been spotted or found flying. Also, humans couldn't see the colour blue during the Bronze Age and early Iron Age. That's why Homer described the sea as 'The wine dark sea'. The sea looked red BUT often wine looked blue - which is why the Germans chose the name BLUE NUN for one their finest wines (£3.99 for a 2lt box).
Here is a question. Alexander spent 3 years in military campaigns conquering territories. What did he leave behind? What value to ordinary humans was left behind in this conquest. He died young after nothing but battles and slaughter. Is that what we consider as legendary? Is that something to be emulated? I hope we view history in much broader terms than military conquest and destruction.
There were numerous cultural changes that resulted from his conquests - Greek culture fused with Persian and central Asian cultures spread as far as the borders of China. The first representations of the Buddha in statue form were highly influenced by Greek art (Gandhara style). Powerful and flourishing kingdoms established in Bactria (Afghanistan) and in India itself. Greeks converted to Buddhism spread Buddhism even to Sri Lanka (King Menander of the Indo-Greek kingdom.) Greek Hellenistic culture in the near east led to the adoption of koine Greek as the lingua franca of the region and this is why the New Testament was written in Greek -s o two highly important religions greatly influenced by Alexander's conquests! And this is just for starters. The later Roman empire would have been impossible without Alexander. Greek science of that era is the foundation of modern science - Greek scientists and astronomers in Ptolemaic Egypt even calculated the circumference of the earth with remarkable accuracy. And then the great libraries of Alexandria and Pergamum.
You sir represent everything that is wrong with the modern victim hood ideology being taught in universities. Your perspective is warped and your understanding of the world is perverted.
Your dates are wrong, but you could not do an honest documentary if you want to keep your funding. If the King was able to ride that buried horse, He must have been a dwarf.
Are you watching what's happening with the Colorado River in the USA? I think we, as a species, have mismanaged much and blaming it on one gov't or another tempts us to think "it won't happen in MY country".
This is a gem - every minute is well worth viewing.

Hello from Greece!
Too soon. We haven't forgiven you for Dr. Michael Mosely, yet.
So you can just stop asking about the Elgin Marbles for at least another 26 years.
@paulleverton9569 You will return a lot of stolen antiquity to different countries sooner or later. Like it or not, dear.

Beautiful landscape photos - thank you! A bit long-winded... and when the madman climbs around the hole without any safety equipment - I switch off.
What about the bit when the guy gets a broken arm in the dojo, that was good timing!

Alexander was great, and you are not

...numerous "Alexandria" cities which exist until today
The exchange in culture, trade and most importantly, knowledge between civilisations following the conquests of Alexander are quite significant. 🤓💚♾️
