I have a 05 Grand Caravan and a technician who worked at Dodge said the Corporate big wheels urged engineers on later years to implement more plastic internals on the transmissions forcing customers back into the dealerships. I love the older models😂
Nice presentation. Penetration spray does work, but the majority of vehicles that come from the north have excessive amounts of rust and bolts break regardless. Keep up the good work.
Darrell Maddox personally, I never saw the point of spraying down the head of a bolt, and waiting a day or two to see of something might happen. That is right up there with watching paint dry, and sniffing glue.
This video is helping me pull back the transmission to where I can pull the flywheel and then access that crappy leaky freeze plug. What the heck were the engineers thinking when they put freeze plugs behind the engine block and hid them with the transmission and then they used crappy steel ones instead of brass.
Done like the pro you are. I do those particular vehicles the exact same way! No doubt! In my 36 plus years of auto and truck repairs I've run into numerous rust buckets that are not a walk in the park with or without using pb blaster, wd 40 or any other type of penetrating lubrication.
Hi I'm Juan and I'm kinda confused here with a new used transmission on my 2005 grand caravan 3.8L a friend put it on on his shop it's was his first one of this kind I'm talking about side ways position, but now when I tried it it feels rough to start like a starter problem but before the replacement I had no problem about that, and also now with the A.C. on it definitely feels shaking and shuts off after a few seconds, do you have any idea what happened there? Does it needs to be programmed with the van? Anything will help thank you You also can reach me at hjuand777@yahoo.com
Wow after seeing this I am definitely leaving it to the professionals. I thought about taking out my transmission on my own. But not after seeing this.
I've done it on a Chrylser Sebring. It's definitely a lot of work, but the satisfaction and the money you save---I only paid $100 for the transmission.
Wow, I give it to you friend. These new front wheel type trannys seem a wwhole lot more complex than in my time, when I rebuilt my Chrysler Cordoba's torque flite 8 tranny. Even dropped an 81 Chevy citation's tranny, after removing bolts etc, by sliding it off on the bottom "H" plate. But there were'nt that many difficulties as I see here. I am currently faced with this delimma, in which my spider gears in differential are bad. Left wheel spins, right doesn't. Nevertheless, I enjoyed watching this video with a touch of Nyquil severe cold, to douse the nerve wrecking snaps of vital bolts! lol.. By the way, I liked the Extra precaution, of having jack stands under the lifts arms! lol..
@@RustBeltAuto Probably, I'm not sure. The reason I'm asking is cause my 2000 Plymouth Voyager leaks transmission fluid and it leaves wet spots on the floor where that cover seems to be, but I wasn't sure if that cover had anything to do with the transmission. I probably need to re-seal it, thanks.

Thx so much for this great video. You are a great mechanic. Like you show us, a lot of the replacement work involves getting the corroded broken bolt shanks out in order to reassemble the parts. What a time consuming pain. But once the trans is out, it's fairly easy and cheap to rebuild this trans, if u shop for good parts at good prices. And the rebuild it to new condition is normally cheaper than a high mileage used trans that could blow two weeks after you put it in , even if it was "working ok" in the other vehicle. It would for me 70/30. You must be a 50/50 guy.
I don't rebuild transmissions for other people anymore. They always have the option to go to a transmission shop, and have it done, or have me put a remanufactured one in it with a good warranty from a reputable company. You just never know what is wrong with one until you take everything apart. Those usually always need a new solenoid pack too. Paying me to do the labor, and whatever else it might need if something is wore out or broken, might cost just as much or more than to just get one that is already remanufactured. Thanks for watching!
I wonder how much or how many hours it take to R&R this transmission? Should I buy a rebuilt transmission and have it installed or take the Town and Country to AAMCO?
Sorry, but I don't have answers like that. It is a lot like gambling. If you want to pay someone to do it with a warranty, more power to you. Thanks for watching.

My 98 Plymouth Grand Voyager transmission is acting up. If I give it gas it will shift. Is the transmission totally screwed or is it something else perhaps? TIA
Yes, it was low and I added fluid, which allowed it to shift. The leak however is coming from the small plate around the bottom of the transmission. Not sure exactly what's behind there that would cause a leak. I haven't removed it yet to see. Any ideas??
Yeah the amount of work to do it it’s pretty crazy and you really need to know what you’re doing it’s not really a DIY thing to be honest I mean you can do it but you’re probably going to fail and you have to make sure you put everything back together correctly it’s just a massive amount of work
