- How to fix, or replace this transmission. Don't remember a caravan transmission being such a pain as this one. Editing this video was painful to watch. Edited out lots of cussing. some of it made me laugh, so I had to leave it. Sorry Dodge boyz. 95 96 97 98 99 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10

Great work and video.. I own 2 crappy caravans lol.. and i know them pretty well..even better now with Your videos Thanks
Your crabby attitude is hilarious 😂
It helps me sleep.
Friggen Awesome! Need to do mine in the driveway and your video is perfect! Thanks for calling out bolt sizes, and great editing!
Liked, sub'd and sharing
Welcome.
Lmao 🤣🤣🤣 started off real professional and then the bitchin' starting.
This video is great! I'm going to rebuild the trans in an 01 caravan and am using this and part 1 as a reference guide.
I'll most likely be cursing the Chrysler engineers about as much a you did!
Good luck!
I see that the exhaust pipe is there.
Can you remove and install the transmission without removing the exhaust on a 3,3 engine?
I understand your frustration. I cuss about the same amount when working on a caravan. Nice video.
douglas787 ooh really??? And here I thought it was just me.
293,000 and 198,000 miles
LOOKING FOR VIDEOS OF 1995 GRAND CARAVAN ES STEERING REPLACEMENT
"Dodge boys have more fun." Tell me another story and I'll go get my pajamas.
When you did this job did you also replace the rear main seal on the engine (for good measure)?
I did not
@@RustBeltAuto I have to replace the torque converter so I was thinking I might as well go ahead and do it
Nice. Runs good now
I feel you. This job is such a pain in the ass.
Thx for making the video!!
Thanks! Your video was very helpful.
I doing a transmittion on a Grand Caravan and I totally agree with every cus word spewed out each one was totally necessary to completing this transmission
Not cussing doing a job like this, will probably give you a brain hemorrhage, or cancer or something. Thanks for watching!
@@RustBeltAuto keep posting I'll keep watching question did you have any trouble closing gaps between the bell housing and the engine cuz mine does near the rear diff slide it's going in but doesn't close the whole gap mind you I did get this new transmission off a town and country same year
@@kennydomino6933 just make sure the torque converter spins freely, and nothing is pinched in the housing.
@@RustBeltAuto I took it out and put it back like 3 times there was nothing and the torque converter has been checked a few times in that process just to be sure but a guy at a transmission shop told me that dodge and Chrysler never makes a transmission that's interchangeable he said just becuse they are cousins dont mean they have the same bloodline I just wanna know if you ever heard that
@@RustBeltAuto also the transmission came out of a burnt vehicle do you think it could have warped a bit
What are the additional steps when changing an AWD transmission? Getting ready to change one
There is a driveshaft, and transfer case? Never done one on a Caravan.
@@RustBeltAuto 2001 Chrysler Town and County 3.8 AWD Junkyard transmission came without the transfer case, but I haven't started on it yet. Transmission went last week. No noises, no clunks...just took off from a stop sign and shifting into second was like going into neutral. No reverse, but I did make it home at 20mph in 1st gear. I haven't found a video that shows the AWD transmission change
@@Matt45895 just pull your pan and see if you see metal chunks, if you see needle bearings, tranny is shot and will need to be replaced, same happend to me by first observing that it lost reverse than all the other gears
@@SDPP992 After two contacts with transmission shops I am convinced the tranny is shot. I have simply never changed an awd transmission and I am looking for a "how to" video that includes separation and reconnection with the transfer case. I can't seem to find one
Lmfao!!!! Omg ..I can relate ..I have a 1996 Dodge Caravan lol it's a pain in the ass
Thanks for the awesome videos and making me laugh at your comments. I had to R&R a transaxle to replace a broken flex plate. I have a question though. I was going to swap out a transmission from my 2002 Town and Country 3.3lt into my 2007 Town and Country 3.8lt but the transmission from my 2007 has an extra electrical plug. What is that plug for? Thank you.
I don't know.
There's the input sensor, output sensor, solenoid pack connector, range sensor and a 5th connector to the left of the range sensor...
@@bobathman8442 i forgot
I totally feel your pain bro. Oh loved your work.
One question was it worth it?
@@orvillef19 the van was a serious piece of junk, that is no longer with us. The used transmission was pretty much garbage. It went out. This cheesy video so far has made me a whopping $22.07. I'm going to go with no. Not even close to worth it, but can be thankful some people got some use out of the video, and maybe got a good laugh.
I have a '95 Town & Country III 3.8 V6 166hp. Ordered a tranny from a 3.3 low milage Caravan and now my workshop says it doesn't fit. Generally they say that, for this year model it'll be hard to find a fitting one (even from a 97' 98' 3.8 models). Can anyone tell me if it's true? Do non of any other transmissions work with my car? (I'm no mechanic, I just love that car and I didn't expect there would be so much hassle with it). I'm from Europe, so a typical junkyard won't work here.
You should have checked your fitment by doing a junkyard search on car-part.com or something.
@@RustBeltAuto I asked the seller ( a mechanic) If it would fit, gave him all the Numbers and he said it will. I thought that he knew better.
Love it!! 94 ply 2.5l 5spd manual and 95 2.5 dodge automatic. . Love em
very informative video, i get mad when working on cars as well, accidentally bought an 2005 vue with an awd CVT in it, that, i think made me the most mad of any car i have ever worked on... gm crap...
Thanks for watching!
I love this video.
"Dodge boys have more fun.. what a crock of shit that is.." lmao
Well you think your mouth is as dirty as the vehicles you drive 😜
I was born and raised in a dirty world. My cars are clean on the inside.
Yeah, that's car repair is very nervous ...
Somebody had crabby cakes for breakfast.
Just breakfast?
Thank you
I'm doing one of these right now in the shop and it's kind of a bitch for me to do.
Yes. It's not just you. It is a Chrysler product. Only we the mechanics know what that means. Do one on a rusted out Dodge Durango once. It will make this junk look like a walk in the park.
I'm just about to do my second one and not looking forward to it LoL
Pffffff. Fatal
