As someone who’s switched bows every other year or so and switch bicycles for lighter and better. As I’ve gotten older and tired of changing I’ve come to realize “it’s the Indian, not the arrow”! Stick with what your dialed and confident in.
i just got learnt. there is a wealth of knowledge on this channel. really really improves those in the archery community that seeks a better understanding of archery and archery equipment
Within the next week or so I'm planning on going to spokane valley archery for my first bow. Can't wait to see the shop and get into this world of archery.
I just traded in my Vertix for a V3X 33. The Vertix was my back up and I shoot and hunt with a VXR 31.5. I noticed several differences while shooting the bows side by side. The hold, the top end stabilization, and vibration…. What sold me was none of the above, but the absence of cam dump on the draw. My VXR dumps before the back wall and it has created problems for me in the past. The V3X draws smooth all the way through the draw cycle into a firm back wall. All of the other advantages listed above were purely icing on the cake. I am a 28.5 draw on 75# mods, 85% LO - so not overtly to one side of the spectrum on most bows. I am excited to get the V3X dialed for season. Great vid, keep’s coming.
@@TimConnor13 I know u tried the 2021 Hoyt Ventum but the 2022 Hoyt Ventum Pro has a different handle and to me the Ventum Pro was way more smoother and deader in the hand. Keep up the great videos man. Anyone that shows kids/people how great archery and the outdoors are definitely have my blessing🙏👊
So funny that you made this video. I bought a V3X 33 for my very first bow, thought it was great. Then I bought a V3 31 second hand off someone and got it setup and fell in love with the 31 over the 33. The shorter ATA actually felt more stable to me. Not sure if draw length and physical stature matters, but I am 5'8" with a 28" draw length. I actually ended up getting rid of the V3X 33 and keeping the V3 31 haha. 🤷♂
Another masterpiece from MFJJ. He makes some great points about the changes that otherwise would be more nuanced. Personally, having just put new GAS Ghost strings on my Traverse and VXR 31.5, I can’t imagine better bows. I’m sure the new V3X is better, but prolly only marginally. I shot all the 2022 bows this year at GAOS and the only one that stood out were the Hoyts. Having said that, I just can’t get enough Podium archery. You guys rock!
Great video. I always learn something. I shoot a 31.5 VXR. It is so dialed in that I won’t shoot a newer bow. Maybe, I’m missing out. I really enjoy watching y’all change setups. It makes great content. You, Dan, and Josh do an excellent job. I have ordered from Podium Archer and the service it great. God bless
I have both bows and love my 31 but the 33 is sooo smooth and accurate!!!! I won’t ever let go of the 31 so that will be my back up bow for now. Great content as always TC, keep it comin!
I have the 31.5 VXR and never shot the V3. I shot a few arrows last week from the V3X. Honestly, I would rather spend the money on more tags than gear.
I was very blessed to win the V3x in a raffle that my local pro shop sponsored and I will say the 33 is an awesome bow. I compared to my v3 27 it feels like a target bow. I’ll probably end up taking that out west for mule deer hunting for sure.
Im from missouri and hope next year to take a trip up there and maybe buy a new bow. I shoot the ventum 33 and love it.. went back to hoyt after being awAy from them for a long time because i feel the new models dont shoot like the old hoyts(in a good way).. but would love to have somebody take the time with me and get set up proper. Love the content from both yalls channels
Awesome video guys I’m literally waiting on my v3 to be delivered I’ve upgraded from a inferno pse 25/-26 year old to the Mathews I carnt wait to feel the difference! And This is because I took a long long break from archery and I’ve now been bk and 2/3 months ready for the upgrade!
Switch it bud,you will like it more trust me!My suggestion is to try Elite Enkore just for fun and you will see how that bow can be smooth, fast and easy for tuning 🤘
33” bows are my happy median. V3x 33 and the hoyt Ventum pro 33 were neck and neck almost. Defiantly some good bows this year glad I got to try them all out at SVA and make a conscious decision.
I appreciate the comparison but it is hard to believe there wouldn't be any bias towards Mathews with Elk Shape being sponsored by them. I would love to see MFJJ review the Hoyt's vs the Mathews on his channel.
There definitely bias towards Mathews. That’s why It’s hard for me to truly trust what they say! I’ve shot the prime 5 and bow tech and Hoyt and they all had better draw cycles. Mathews bows are to jumpy and not smoothe. I was really shocked with Hoyt these past two years. They’ve been honestly the best bows hands down these past two years.
I swtiched from Mathews to the Hoyt RX7 Ultra this year and its unreal how nice it is to shoot the new Hoyts. the grip is perfect and Hoyt has redefined what dead in the hand means. Tim you should take a RX7 Ultra around MFJJs 3d crouse and you'll fall in love!
This is awesome content I literally just went through this two months ago I had a V3 31 and switch to the V3X 33 it’s like night and day holds much easier easier to execution the shot on the target all around better bow so if I was you I’d give the 33 a try trade the 31 in
Embrace that 31 you have. ABT yes.....but..... The specs of the 33 may have a "potential" technical advantage, however what matters most is where your confidence and results lie.
Also enjoy the content and love the videos. Love the shooting videos and tuning. Maybe a video of indoor range targets. I have bought a bunch of targets for indoor blank bale shooting and I am still searching for a good indoor target that you can shoot repeatedly at 5 yards or closer. Thanks
I have been shooting a 33-in bow for a long time and then whenever I went to switch to a 31 in Bow it just felt wrong. I do have a longer draw length.. but whenever I switched to a 35 inch axle to axle it felt so right. This year is longer axle axle bows don't feel nearly as long as previous ones do. I think it's due to the longer riser and shorter limbs.
Here is what I like about Josh. It seems like he supports archery improvement. For example, my archery shop does not sell bow press(just got one from Josh) they also do not work with shooters that much for improvement. They do allot of side charges for the extra help. Which I feel pushes new shooters back a bit. I have had to learn from people like Josh and experiment. I will say for my hunting and shooting style the V3X 29 was my preferred over the 33. The 33 did feel smoother and was more forgiving but I needed a bit smaller set up. The 29 had filled is roll well.
Thank y’all so much for the content I literally look forward to watching the videos you guys and Josh put out on his channel. @Tim what kind of boots are you rocking in the intro? I’m hunting for some new boots to try out.
Had the v3 31 and liked it then I purchased the v3 33 and hated the draw cycle at 28.5 I didn’t notice the dump at 29 but at 28.5 I couldn’t stand it. Thought about putting the 29” mod on it and a short loop but in the end I sold it and ordered a Hoyt rx7 ultra. I was brand loyal for almost 20 year and now I will shoot what feels the best every year period. Ps really like the bowtech bows and might give one a go in the future. Enjoy having choices and buy what you like.
Great job Tim, you always come through as genuine and someone just trying to learn and to pass it on. Channeled my inner MFJJ back in Dec. Took some of my 497gr hunting arrows with my V3 31 and shot the V3X 33 side by side, shot for shot for quite some time. My V3X is due in next week 🤣🤣. If you do any style of target, you’ll instantly appreciate the ATA, and that really grabbed me. Gonna set my V3X up as a backup to my TRX 40 until July when it changes to hunting mode! Luckily, I get to keep my V3 so it can pull backup for hunting. Great content guys and looking forward to the follow up.
Love the content you guys put out, watch the newest ones as they come in. This video really makes me want to pull the trigger on a V3x 33. Would love to make it up and get some of MFJJ’a wisdom In person. Thanks guys!
This sounds like a classic case of not needing a new bow as much a needing more range time. (Referring to most amateurs like myself) I personally love my V3 31 I can’t see changing out for a slight improvement. Not to mention why waste the money even if it’s a couple hundred, so many reviewers were saying how the V3 was the best bow Mathew’s has ever produced.
Such a solid plan for MFJJ to keep having you guys switch set ups over and over again before TAC. All the while he keeps his setup the same.... Evil genius. haha
31 is perfectttt though, big enough for us bigger guys without going to a full blown big bow, 29 is too small 33 is too big, size offerings were just right last year and its hard to get on board with the new, especially because i like all the integrate stuff. edit: also last years bows are shooting hotter correct? no ones really saying it but im pretty sure the x's are the slowest of the flagships this year and last years shoot a touch hotter.
my old bow was a pse bow madness ben using it fo 8 years. plenty accurate smooth draw very confident in my set up.just picked up a v3x 29 last week. within a few shots I'm shooting lazer beams. I understand being content with what you already have,But if there is room for improvements on performance by all means don't settle for being content. ABT right ? even if that involves a new platform to tinker on.
Love the channel, keep it up Tim. I go through the shot process every year of shooting everything new. This year I have yet to get in due to time but I intend to soon. Although I’m a little bias to Mathew’s lol. Look forward to seeing what you choose and why
Don't do it! Newer isn't always better. I shot the V3X 33 three times trying to convince myself it was all that. Ended up realizing I prefer my old bow (Traverse) better. I'm happier than ever that I didn't spend the cash on a bow I didn't like as much
Dang you guys are amazing when it comes to info. So josh set my bow up last year the Hoyt ventum 33 and it was driving dimes all last year, but I haven’t shot the bows this year and I’m Curious to see if I need to upgrade or stay the same. And dang it I want to see one I might be missing out on
That would be perfect. I need a new bow and cannot decide what I want. Im in yakima, 6'3 30.5 to 31 draw length. Looking for something around 34 axle to axle.
That 2020 buying video was good. My vote is, stay with what you've been training with. Im no expert but I don't think the few changes they made to the v3x is worth having to redial in on a new setup, but, I know y'all love to tinker so maybe getting the v3x is more in line with your shit.
If I could afford it, I’d get a V3x 33 in 75 pounds draw. It should shoot my 440 grain arrows a little slower, but be more forgiving than my Triax in 70 pounds.
What’s the best way to sell used bow? For me it’s the financial side that’s the biggest burden to constantly upgrading. Does MFJJ have a trade in program?
Heres a quick question for MFJJ - if you have to grab the bow in an unatural manner to feel the vibration what does it matter so much how much a bow vibrates, your not going to feel it when shooting normally.. what else does the vibration effect besides feel?
The longer the bow the more weight it has add stabilizers add your arrows sight quiver gotta think what you use or what type of hunting you do hunt in a tree or blind a 27 -31 is good for blinds tree stands
I guess its time for me to upgrade? Lol Old parker hornet compound not the crossbow. Just scaled it and darn thing is at 78 lbs! And 28.5? Ata. I knew it was stout but ummmpff! And running the ol chocolate starfish aka whisker Buiscuit. Keep up the good work yall. ✌🏻
Tim, I had the 31 for a year and loved it but I got a 33 in early December for the reasons MFJJ stated and I haven’t been disappointed traded my trinity for an epsilon and will probably keep it for a long time unless Mathews comes out with something better. But I don’t think it is possible to make something that much better the 33 is a shooter way more accurate that I or most humans are
Tim I would say definitely go with the 33 . It will help you beat Dan and MFJJ at Tac . Tell Josh he is the man ! He has my 33 shooting so good . Go get them Tim
Ok lets get real!!!!! Come on MFJJ forgiveness on any bow built since 2020 is not an issue anymore. THEY R ALL FORGIVING!!!!! When you can shoot 6 inch groups at 100 yards with 27-28 inch axle to axle bows the old axle to axle more forgiving is out the window. Exactly the same thing with brace height. Unless your shooting like a pro shoots i dont care who you are ( u ain’t going to see the difference ). Keep the bow u just built and love, unless you just want a new bow and the excitement of building it. You will however notice the extra length and weight in the field. Good luck with your decision. Thanks for the video Keep making them.
I should have my 33 v3x in a couple days . I shot it at my local archery shop and I fell In love in how it shoots. Why have a v3 when u can have a v3x?? Trade it !
Really looking at a new bow since my first bow is a 5 yo Hoyt Nitrum 30. My wife’s matthews seems so much quieter and flatter. I have no other frame of reference so would love to come down from Sandpoint and film with you guys!
I bought the Ventum 33 last year. Sold it, went to get the new one, shot the V3X 33 & Pro and ended up ordering the V3X. For me it was crazy accurate. First Mathews ever, but I guess that’s why you shoot them. Find what works for you.
I'm assuming that with a shorter draw length this criteria isn't the same? The 33 length is too long for me with a 26.5 inch draw, so would a 31 be better than the 29? On paper the pse evl fx 33 would be the best all around
Maybe I’m no good maybe I’m backwards idk but the larger of a bow I go I always become a little less accurate and I shoot almost every day from a hunting stand point I think a 30 axle to axle bow is better for me
Love the tinkering videos, and the drive Tim has to TDD, interested to see how it plays out on the course for you guys! The 33 looks pretty nice definitely appears more stable, I feel the pain of switching bows once u got urs set lol good luck
I think mfjj's input makes sense but I think you need to set that 33 up like it was yours. this is coming from someone still shooting the vertix on factory strings 😳😳😳😳😳 I am definitely intrigued by the 33b though.
I like the v3 27 shoots great killed lots of deer with it great for blinds and tree stand it’s a tool mannn man up worried about vibration what are you a hunter or Olympic bow shooter
Dragging a 31 through the woods after elk or in a blind vs a 33 is also a consideration! I love my vxr 28 for those very reasons!
I switched to Hoyt this year. That Ventum Pro draw was way smoother than the Mathews and comfort is what I was wanting

Tim, I had the 31 for a year and loved it but I got a 33 in early December for the reasons MFJJ stated and I haven’t been disappointed traded my trinity for an epsilon and will probably keep it for a long time unless Mathews comes out with something better. But I don’t think it is possible to make something that much better the 33 is a shooter way more accurate that I or most humans are
L
Tim I would say definitely go with the 33 . It will help you beat Dan and MFJJ at Tac . Tell Josh he is the man ! He has my 33 shooting so good . Go get them Tim
I have the Mathews 27 . I’m still pretty new but I’ve thought about changing to the 29

Great video! MFJJ - What video are you referring to where you describe Reflex in a bow?
Impossible for me to have an unbiased opinion when it comes to the V3X33. That’s the bow of the Decade and it’s only 2022.
Word!
I should have my 33 v3x in a couple days . I shot it at my local archery shop and I fell
In love in how it shoots. Why have a v3 when u can have a v3x?? Trade it !
Hey Tim
Thanks for this info. Do you think there would be a big difference between the V3X 29 or the V3 31 ? Thanks
So hard to say my friend... Is there anywhere you can shoot and compare them - TC
@@ElkShape will definitely try to shoot both. Trying to find that balance of treestand bow but able to shoot 3D in the spring and summer
I would definitely get the 33" for all the reasons. more better
Definitely enjoy watching y’all’s content. Good luck Tim. #TDD
Having a shorter drawlength (26”) I can’t get the v3x 33, I’m stuck whether I get the v3 31” or v3x29”
Go 29 for hunting with your draw length
9:54 Man watch that bow dance!
TDD!! Whatever it takes!!!!! 40" bows all around!!
I’ll gladly come chill with you gents and test out bows. I shoot a V3 31 currently.
Really looking at a new bow since my first bow is a 5 yo Hoyt Nitrum 30. My wife’s matthews seems so much quieter and flatter. I have no other frame of reference so would love to come down from Sandpoint and film with you guys!
What's your Instagram?

If you have to grip the bow to feel the vibration, then why is it even in the equation when choosing a bow.
I need to upgrade my Vertix. It's still a great bow though.
Awesome video I was looking at Mathews target bows would this work for indoor/3d target bow it also has lower price tag then a target bow?
Also get the 33, I love it!! and because you know nothing about me… clearly, you should take my opinion very seriously😂
Would a 31 or a 33 be better for somebody with the 26 and a 1/2? Inch draw length for Ibo speed.
I'm so torn if I should upgrade my V3 31. It would be really nice to be able to shoot the Ventum Pro side by side with the V3X.
I bought the Ventum 33 last year. Sold it, went to get the new one, shot the V3X 33 & Pro and ended up ordering the V3X. For me it was crazy accurate. First Mathews ever, but I guess that’s why you shoot them. Find what works for you.
Tim thanks for the video
Thank you my G
Get the 33!!
Noted!
Next year, 48 inch risers 33 inch axle to axle
I'm assuming that with a shorter draw length this criteria isn't the same? The 33 length is too long for me with a 26.5 inch draw, so would a 31 be better than the 29? On paper the pse evl fx 33 would be the best all around
Dan is similar.. either could work but I think most with that draw length lean towards 29 - TC
I have the V3 31 and my question would be trade in value… is it common for your archery shops to give good $ for a year old bow??
Nope..🤣🤣
Maybe I’m no good maybe I’m backwards idk but the larger of a bow I go I always become a little less accurate and I shoot almost every day from a hunting stand point I think a 30 axle to axle bow is better for me
i just made the same switch you will realy like that 33 outdoors its better
Love the tinkering videos, and the drive Tim has to TDD, interested to see how it plays out on the course for you guys! The 33 looks pretty nice definitely appears more stable, I feel the pain of switching bows once u got urs set lol good luck
TDD 🤘
Yes switch man
I think mfjj's input makes sense but I think you need to set that 33 up like it was yours. this is coming from someone still shooting the vertix on factory strings 😳😳😳😳😳 I am definitely intrigued by the 33b though.
word!
Kinda surprised MFJJ is pushing Matthews so much. What happened to your love for Bowtech?
Shucks, I’m to big to even fit the 33 and Josh makes me want buy it. 😂😂😂
He can be very convincing 👀
is v3 or v3x better?
Yeah thow a sight an quiver on the V3X like the on V3 an can't tell the difference.
the 33 is the best Mathews bow in several years
I like the v3 27 shoots great killed lots of deer with it great for blinds and tree stand it’s a tool mannn man up worried about vibration what are you a hunter or Olympic bow shooter
I find modern bows easier to to torq
