  • I'm excited to sit down with Michelle Hurn. We talk about eating disorders, and much more. Make sure to listen to the full interview to learn more.
Michelle Hurn is a registered and licensed dietitian with eleven years of experience as a clinical, acute care dietitian, lead dietitian in psychiatric care, and outpatient dietitian. Michelle is an avid endurance athlete, she has qualified for the Boston Marathon 12 times, and on November 7th 2020, she recently won her first ultra marathon covering 44.63 miles in a 6 hour timed race.
While practicing inpatient and outpatient care in the hospital setting, Michelle discovered a disheartening connection between the high carbohydrate, low fat, “sugar in moderation,” nutrition guidelines she was required to teach, and the rapidly declining health of her patients.

The Anorexia Case Series entered into the Journal of Metabolic Health is groundbreaking work from Michelle Hurn & Nick Norwitz. I was honored to be patient #3 & I speak out everyday thru social media & interviews, like Michelle does, to shed light & spread hope to be 100% healed. I been healed permanently 6yrs ago after 4decades of mental illness & anorexia. I am forever grateful to Michelle for advocating for every sufferer as we continue to share our story. Thank you Judy, for having Michelle as your guest.

Were you weight restored when you started the keto/carnivore diet as part of this study or did this diet put you into weight-restoration? In other words, did you begin this study as a sick anorexic person and the diet fully healed you??

It’s inherently HARD to put into moderation THAT which is ADDICTIVE

This is really powerful thank you! As someone with a history of bulimia and binge eating I've gone back and forth with meat based eating and keto/carnivore for 18 months now but have had periods where I feel that I "should" be able to indulge in things like chocolate from time to time but then end up in a binge again because I'm being too restrictive with "carbs are bad". I just want complete food freedom. My body does feel much better though without carbs and plants. I don't feel bloated or uncomfortable. But don't want to follow a complete dogmatic approach to "never eating carbs again" and so for me its finding that balance where I'm meat/carnivore based in my foundations but not feeling restricted.

Yeah the anti-meat narrative is kind of ridiculous. Even at my library they rented chicks that you could hatch and watch for a couple weeks. They were very clear that after they left they would not be eaten, only lay eggs and breed. It's really crazy the lack of realistic food chain understanding.
I've recently gotten really into bugs, worms and compost. The balance of soil and living conditions in something as (seemingly) simple as dirt and worms is so complex. Changing ratios of carbon vs nitrogen rich waste will give you very different inhabitants of your compost heap, too hot you get one type of bacteria too cold you get another. Worms, wasps, flies, bacteria etc thrive differently depending on what you feed your compost pile. And those are "simple" organisms. Once you realize we are very much microbiome based animals you realize that dumping too much of the wrong macronutrients into our system can yield terrible results. And if we aren't built with ruminant stomachs we shouldn't eat like them.

Michelle Hurn is a hero to a teenage girl who had an eating disorder and was hospitaliezed for it but is recovering from it on the carnivore diet. Check out her YT channel and look her up to see her being interviewed, Sofia Eats Steak. It would be great to have Michelle interview Sofia or have them both on Judy's channel in a 3 way chat.

In a part of the talk it's said that you need to avoid carbs in order not to trigger the eating disorder. Than later it's said that it's silly to be dogmatic about it and you don't want to be perfect because trying to be perfect is an eating disorder in itself.
To me that's a direct contradiction.

Hi Judy! I was wondering if your program can help me? I have cancer, ulcer, hypothyroidism, and mental health issues. Possibly (probably) SIBO due to GI surgeries and antibiotic use.
    Thank you so much! :)

It is interesting to see recovery sites or IG pages. They are all eating oatmeal and advocating vegan diets. What's the difference bw that and carnivofe in that sense? "At least" the carnivore diet provides the essential nutrients needed to thrive not just survive!
