    I just found the same thing with my Mazda 3, the easiest way is just to use one of the USB ports in the centre console - the only minor messy bit is that takes room in the console bin, jams at the end when shut and has to run over the side, but everything else can be tucked under trims and door rubbers and only takes minutes to install - (and without the hardwire kit)

      Hey bluewind, oh but the power plug to the dash Cam is a cigarette lighter not a USB.
      Plus isn't the USB always on too?

      yah major bummer that all the fuses inside the cabin are hot, I wish they made at least one that isnt. Firewall is the only opt, but because my cx30 is a lease, i just did the cigarette lighter method. not beautiful but it works!

    I ran into the same issue. Which fuses did you use in the engine bay fuse box? The only fuses that have power in ACC only is “For protection for various circuits” fuses.

    • @kingsleychan
      @kingsleychan  11 місяців тому

      Hey Manny, I actually didn't end up going through the firewall and into the engine fuse box. So annoying how the fuse box in the car are all hot fuses.
      I ended up buying the expansion battery and using the cigarette lighter, it's a leased vehicle.
      I think you can pick almost any fuse to tap into in the engine bay fuse box though, just anything that isn't hot all the time but comes on when the car starts. Like rear window wiper, I think at least. Let me know how it goes!

    Im about to install my friend’s dashcam on his cx30, will the fuse tap with auto voltage cut-off kit will work? It has a voltage selector when to turn off the dash cam to avoid draining your cars battery.

    • @kingsleychan
      @kingsleychan  11 місяців тому

      It should. Those auto voltage cut off wiring system shld detect when Ur battery is lower than 11.5v and auto cut off the dash cam.
      The problem is, the dash cam won't last very long on parking mode if you go that route.
      Let me know if you have any other questions!

  • @Whitesp44
    @Whitesp44 Місяць тому +1

    I know I've already commented but what about running an "on-off" switch in the line to one of those hot fuses? In other words switch it off when you power off the car and on when you drive? Or unplug the power cord from the camera when your done driving? Or would that still be a parasitic drain? Still trying to figure this out. Thanks

    • @kingsleychan
      @kingsleychan  Місяць тому +1

      That actually might very well work. Makes sense to me, since it'd just be the hot fuse with ah extension cord that you turn off when you park.
      But one small thing to consider is if your dash cam has parking mode, then still back at sq one.
      This was one of my main wants of the dash cam, to catch anyone hit and run the car. So that's why I opted for the extended battery for my black vue.
      But ya I think your switch idea is pretty sound.

    So the acc and vcc both is it can use the 24hrs power supply?

    • @kingsleychan
      @kingsleychan  9 місяців тому +1

      I forget which fuse is the acc and vcc, but in short, all the fuses inside the car are 'hot' all the time, in otherwords, none of them should be used to have the dash cam plugged in 24hrs, as any fuse inside the car will always be running.
      I think for Canadian CX30s, the best solution is to go through the firewall to the other fuse box.
      What I ended up doing, as the car is a lease, is just use the cigarette plug, and unplug it when I park. Not beautiful solution, but it works.

    Hi. I am halfway through my install of a dashcam to a 2023 CX-30. I'd like to use parking mode with the dashcam (to avoid battery drain) and will probably need to go with the engine fusebox. How did you go about this on your previous install? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    • @kingsleychan
      @kingsleychan  Рік тому

      Hi Jimmy, the best way is to go through the firewall with a back up battery. I did the blackvue dashcam and bought the back up battery. It's expensive, but imo worth it if you want to use parking mode. Parking mode uses, for the most part, the same power as the dash cam when it's normally on. If you don't want to spend the money on the spare back up battery, make sure you get a low voltage cut off system that auto shuts off the dashcam when your battery is lower than 11.5V. Otherwise you'll drain your battery.
      What I ended up doing, as the car is a lease, is go
      Cigarette lighter > back up battery > dashcam. When I park the car I unplug the cigarette lighter as its always hot and it'll drain my car battery.
      Let me know what you end up doing! And pls ask if u have more questions!

      @yllana7471 I ended up going to a car stereo guy for $125 and had it done. He did it without going through the firewall and it does powered off when the car shuts down. Good luck! If I can go back in time, I'd have just purchase a unit with a screen that I can view immediately and know the unit is recording. This one, I just hope it is and would need to power up my iPhone, connect to the device wifi and check.
