  • 🏍 Royal Enfield Himalayan 🆚 🏍Hero XPulse 200 Comparison Test Review
🏍 Hero XPulse 200 India Price is Rs 1.05 lakh for the FI version. 🏍 Royal Enfield Himalayan is priced at Rs 1.82 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi)
🏍 Hero XPulse 200 vs Royal Enfield Himalayan. Which one is better? Let us know in the comments.
🏍 The Hero XPulse 200 is available in five colours, while the Royal Enfield Himalayan is available in three colours.
The Hero XPulse 200 is the company’s latest adventure-style motorcycle and a successor to the Impulse. The XPulse is powered by a 199cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that makes 18.4PS and 17.1Nm in its fuel-injected (FI) guise. It’s also available with a carburettor setup. Hero MotoCorp offers long-travel suspension at both ends of the XPulse 200 - 37mm front forks with 190mm travel and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock with 180mm travel. There are disc brakes at both ends with single-channel ABS as standard. It also features an LED headlight as well as an all-digit instrument cluster that gets Bluetooth connectivity for displaying phone calls and turn-by-turn GPS navigation information.
Royal Enfield’s Himalayan has been around since 2016, and since then has seen some changes in the form of the fuel-injected version and more recently, dual-channel ABS as standard. The Himalayan engine, the LS410, is a 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled unit that generates 24.83PS of power and 32Nm of torque. At 220mm, it’s got SUV-rivalling ground-clearance and yet manages a very manageable seat height of just 800mm. The fat 41mm front forks have 200mm travel while the rear preload-adjustable monoshock has 190mm of travel. The Himalayan doesn’t get much in the way of features and sports an analogue instrument cluster with a small digital display for some basic information as well as a digital compass.

The Himalayan isn't that great on the highway. I have felt several times that the tires may have got punctured but it is because of the tyre profile that there a mild wobble which feels weird during rides especially on rough tar or concrete roads.
The gearing is definitely tall for offroad and city which makes for a higher clutch usage.
The bike could have been better with a shorter first(just like the low range on SUVs) and an additional sixth gear.
However, the engine is very relaxed because of the low to mid range torque which helps maintain good speeds while touring. And the seating posture and suspension give a very comfortable ride.
Where the himalayan really scores is the ability to go comfortably over a mix of different types of terrain, be it highways, forest roads, village broken roads, etc; making it a good tourer for long distances where one would encounter different road conditions.
The bike isn't about going from point a to b quickly but rather to go comfortably from point a to b, and at the same time haul a decent amount of luggage for the journey as well!
Haven't yet ridden the XPulse as a test ride bike is not available at the local dealer, but hope to ride it soon and maybe buy one too!

Let me show you how it's done ( takes the 150cc honda mill and rebores it). See beta we've got an ALL NEW engine. Now this is what you call INNOVATION!

That adventure 390 teaser at the end was epic! "One bike to rule them all; one bike that can take everything India has on offer..." :) Got to say, in 2022, I am tempted about an xpulse with rally kit, alongside my dominar which could eventually make way for the adventure 390 once I get enough off road chops on the xpulse to deserve the 390 adv. It's a difficult task to find that one bike to do it all.

X pulse with a old karizma r engine with fuel injection making around 22 to 24 bhp could have killed the competitions

    • @arunkottolli
      @arunkottolli 5 років тому +1

Honda had a adventure bike based on same engine as Karizma ( CRF230F). Had Hero built that bike 4 years ago, it could have killed Himalayan!
Another missed opportunity was Mahindra Mojo Adventure edition. Mahindra talked about an adventure bike and then dropped it.

If you don't like both of them, buy a mojo ger a Scropion STR tyre a good bash plate and rynox gear will cost you 2.5L on road you get extra 5 ps and better brakes, engine, smooth engine (MotoGP derived)
It will be cheaper than Himalayan which is 2.6L on road with all the gismo
    (Bangalore prices)

You forgot to talk about luggage capacity for touring. The himalayan has those front frames to mount luggage so you can move some weight forward and the handling does not go down the drain. That would be much tougher on the hero.

As it resemble that himalayan is more comfortable and heavy than xpulse so it is better for normal off-roading and feels comfortable to ride but when it comes to a wilder offroad the xpulse rules.

Maybe RE is holding the 650 Himalayan just to rub chillies in Bajaj's eyes for KTM 390 Adventure.
And maybe they are holding on to 390 Adventure just for 650 Himalayan, but that would make a joke itself.

Whether the Xpulse generate as much heat as Himalayan? It was a nightmare to ride the Himalayan with shorts 🔥

  • @sriramranganathan1569

Thanks for putting in the effort to articulate it to this extent, guys. Much better content and perspectives than the other comparison vids out there so far on the same subject. Mostly fair comparison too. Just wish you'd have ridden it over longer distances, more varied terrain, and more challenging offroad sections (loose rock surfaces, sand, water crossings, pockmarked roads, hilly trails etc) for a few days and come to your conclusions.
I disagree with the bit about xpulse being at best a 2nd bike in the garage. Most people who'd buy an xpulse probably wouldn't give a shit about having a 2nd bike or 3rd bike. I mean, that's what a dual sport is for isn't it... to avoid the hassles of owning multiple specialized bikes? If I didn't own an Impulse, I'd still pick the Xpulse over the Himalayan even if it means a tad slower highway speeds because I wouldn't buy the bike just to ride the highway in the first place. And IMO, the xpulse is far ahead in terms of overall usability compared to the Himalayan simply because of the lower weight. But I do get the easy natured appeal of the Himalayan. Easy to ride on the road, easy to tractor off the road, just as long as things don't get tricky.
And yeah, just the inclusion of a 6th gear and an easy 100-110 kmph cruising capability would have hit the value proposition out to space. It should have been a no brainer decision for Hero. I'm sure they could have cut costs elsewhere like the stupid looking luggage rack. I just don't understand manufacturers. My Suzuki 150 cc from 2010 has a 6th gear and does easy cruising at 90-100 kmph all day (It's overengineered for what it's supposed to be and takes a fair bit of offroad bashing too for being a roadbike).

  • @hagarthehorrible1391

For a short one day ride with some offroading and no luggage the Xpulse will be a good option. But any tour covering longer distances the Himalayan wins hands down. Add the weight of the luggage and you'll see the Xpulse struggle.
RE also needed to make the Himalayan much lighter. It's an unnecessarily heavy bike. You have KTM, Yamaha, BMW adventure bikes with 700-800 cc engines weighing the same as the Himalayan. Maybe they can do better with their 650 version (eagerly waiting for that).

Xpulse : light and nimble so a better off-road bike.

After crossing 20K recently and exploring fair bit of South India, Himalayan is an absolute beast for.long tours, off trails. How ever I feel it is on the heavier side that ruins it for you on the off road. If it would have been 20-30 kg lighter, it would have been the best motorcycle for me.
