  • A CHANGE WITH THE GEAR. I have a "pan stand" to put my mug on, pictures on my Instagram. trangia 27 series, my personal add ons, 3 different billy pots, one of which is the tatonka kettle 2.5 litre and just to show that this little cooker is really a good bit of kit considering it was made in the 1950s. it's still selling and still going which says something.

      @stuartbennion for an old design, it's pretty good. It does everything you need. Cooking on a yellow flame with solid food is best. Gas is OK, but it is only good for boiling water. I used it on a long-distance hike, and it was totally reliable, including in the lapland mountains. It will last a lifetime. You can't go wrong. The seals on the spirit burner might need replacing after about 4 or 5 years, but that's just pennies. Thanks, I hope you enjoyed watching.

    Had a 25-2 UL and 27-2 UL set since 2010. Added bag, multidisc, non-stick frypan and a 500ml fuel bottle to each set. Cooked hundreds of meals on each system and they have never failed me. Recently updated both sets to 27-2 HA and 25-2 HA and passed my old sets down to two of my now adult sons. These old sets both look almost new, attesting to their quality. The 27 with spirit burner is my go to kit for overnighters, weekenders and multi day expeditions. Don’t waste your time and money on a pretender. Get a Trangia Stormcooker system.

    I have the 27 and the Trangia billy pot, everything fits inside nicely, I added the 25 fry pan and a couple of aluminum plates at the bottom, got the bigger strap from Trangia thread through the top and sides of the pot and bingo, all stacked neatly and simple. I also have the mini in my car at all times for short spontaneous hikes with coffee or a simple lunch. Love it. Thanks for the video.

      I’ve been using mine 20 odd years and it would still be as I got it had I not lent it a mate. He borrowed it and tried to snuff out the flame with the lid rather than doing it properly with the simmer ring, by just throwing it on it didn’t seat right and seal off the oxygen so the flame kept burning and melted the rubber ring in the lid. £1.99 it cost for a new one, its not bad going at all considering it’s it’s been all round Europe with me, on motorbike trips, festivals etc and still gets abused at least 30 times a year.

    Have to draw the line somewhere I know but Trangia have more set-ups than the mini, 27 and 25 as well as accessories that a lot of people don't know about. There's a pot stand that sits on the "standard" pot support lugs if you want to use a small pot or a coffee maker. Pot and pan lids too. I use a tundra mini lid on my 27 1l pots. I found a trangia frypan that nests perfectly under the 2.5billy pot. Check out the Swedish and German Trangia sites. They have a lot more products than you can usually find in the UK.

    • @motohobo
      @motohobo 3 роки тому +1

      And the 27 set still all nests together easily even with a tundra mini lid. I put mine in the stand and wind shield first under the two pots. Even with the 27 kettle it still all nests perfectly. Drop the whole 27 kit in a 2.5 billy with the aforementioned frypan under the billy and you're set for anything.

I wish I had gotten the plain aluminum pots. They are sooted up from trying isopropyl alcohol at first not knowing better. The kettle is aluminum and easily cleaned. The bottom of the anodized pots won’t clean up. Not a big deal but they are so slick nothing gets it off. Made coffee at 24 degrees F this morning. Nice video.

Think I paid like 2250 NOK for a 25-4 UL, X2 and a GB47, can't even get the X2 for that price over here. Yer, the trangia 27 series is strangely addictive. It's simple and does everything, anywhere. I don't use that circular ring to hold my metal cup, I have the proper trangia device for that, but better still, I have these 2 titanium small pieces that slot together to make a cross effect. It is very small, light, and does the same job. I used one for 3 months walking the top of Norway, down to the middle of Sweden, never had any problems, I was well seasoned in using it, which was even a nicer feeling being in the outdoors. That was the first video I uploaded. It's just pictures, but I wanted to learn how to upload it.

In my personal opinion I think that the tatonka billy can is better than the zebra billy can because of the wider base which is better for wet food, beans, chilli con carne, etc, and the lid is a realistic sized plate and you can get a utility strap to go around it to keep the lid on because of the bailing arm attachments whilst in your rucksack. a guess the 2.5 litre could feed between 1 -- 3 people and is a good weight for steel.

      I know what you mean with the hard anodised pan, beautifully smooth but food still stick. The none stick lives up to it's name, nothing sticks, even without cooking oil, or at least with eggs. If you feel a little bit of food sticking its not solid and a little shove with a piece of cutlery and it will shift without ripping the food. Once experienced nonstick, you'll never go back, its worth buying one.

      @Andy-walkaboutnutty  Рік тому

      I've just weighed it, and it's 1lb 10 oz as it is when you buy it. That's with the upper and lower wind shield. If you add a lighter, a short ferro rod, a lifeventure titanium plate, and the frame that allows you to use any pot on it, it will then be 2lb 5oz. I did a long-distance walk and cycle in 2006 and 2007 with just the basic setup, and it was perfect in that world i was in. I walked from nordkapp at the top of Norway to the middle of Sweden. It took 3 months. A year later I cycled front the middle of Sweden back home to S wales. When you live like that, you get exceptionally fit, and you get really quick and comfortable at setting everything up. @Andy-walkaboutnutty  4 роки тому +4

      Near the end of the video I showed that you can nestle the cooker inside an MSR alpine stowaway pot, the biggest one. Well the frying pan fits in the pot plus with the lid on top of that turns it into a steamer. If you wanted to do this project then you must take your frying pan to the shop when buying the large MSR alpine stowaway pot because the lid of the pot may or may not fit in the frying pan. I showed 2 lids the same and one fitted and one didn't, the cut of the metal is so close in size. So the steam rises, goes through the holes in the pan and steams the food in the pan. It works a treat, and you can still fry with it as well. 👍

That's happened to me in the past, the rain got past the collapse wind shield and the gas went out because it got flooded and then never worked. I've used this cooker for 3 months solid and it never failed. But hey, each to his own.
