  • SOLD! Congratulations and safe travels to the new owners.
    Nordhavn 47 SEABIRD has traveled north to Alaska, spending a couple of years in the Northwest before heading south back to California, on to Mexico and then exploring central America. Cutting through the Panama Canal they ventured through the Caribbean and then used Florida as their stepping off place to sail eastward. SEABIRD crossed the Atlantic on her own bottom. Two glorious years were spent cruising the Mediterranean before shipping back to the US as on deck cargo aboard a freighter due to other commitments. A veteran of four different summer trips to Alaska and extensive cruising that included ocean passages, island hopping and exploring remote coves and isolated shores. She eventually meandered back to their home port of Santa Barbara, an appropriate and special home for this wonderful trawler. Since 2012, SEABIRD has enjoyed a more coastal lifestyle with many adventures along the US west coast, the California Channel Islands becoming the preferred location to get away. SEABIRD has travelled more than 40,000 miles.

    SEABIRD is hull number 50 of this incredibly popular design. She is a 2007 model year, commissioned for delivery and handed over for first use in 2008. The most commonly desired features for a 47 are: flybridge with fiberglass stack and crane and two-stateroom, two-head interior layout. SEABIRD has these popular features and much more.
    The international appeal of this, “the largest small Nordhavn”, found a growing market in Europe and Australia. The owners of SEABIRD used their own sailing offshore experiences and intelligent observations of how other 47’s were outfitted to order a spectacular package which has served them well. The Nordhavn 47 was continually improved during her production years and SEABIRD is the beneficiary of those sister ships who preceded her. It is not easy to compare 47’s from different model years because of the number of choices, changes and refinements.
    She is one of the last five to be built and delivered in the U.S. and the 47 was eventually morphed into the Nordhavn 52 starting with hull 60. Significant improvements developed over the first few years of production include the following; 24V electrical, full size watch berth in the pilothouse, opening hatch in the master stateroom; and availability of the best equipment selections such as a Steelhead crane, improved Northern Lights generator panels, Lugger wing engine, fiberglass stack enclosure for the dry stack exhaust, saloon flat screen television lift and ABT TRAC active fin stabilizers - all important additions that simply were not available on earlier hulls. She also has SidePower electric bow and stern thrusters for safe and sure arrival in any marina. With her Village Marine 600 GPD water maker, generator and air conditioning, abundant storage for provisions and Sub-Zero refrigeration and freezers you can anchor remotely and enjoy life away from civilization for extended periods of time.
    SEABIRD has served well as an ocean crossing, long range cruising platform. PAE, the builder, evolved the Nordhavn 47 into the Nordhavn 52 model (for hundreds of thousands of dollars more in cost) and made standard the flybridge, fiberglass stack and crane - just like SEABIRD. One of the last of the 47’s she is a testament to her build quality and Nordhavn pedigree.

      Barking Dog: Thank you! Fun message to read. I started doing videos 8 years ago (hard to imagine and have learned a lot). My mom was watching one the other day and turned to my son Jonn and asked, "How does he memorize all of those lines?" to which Jonn replied, "He just wings it!" For me it's just easier to speak from experience and talk from the heart. My video editor is amazing and we have created a great understanding on what to do and how it works. Love the analogy of going from front yards to country clubs, very funny comment to read with my first cup of coffee. Thanks again!

      How does an existing owner convey the shape of the engine with 7k hours? Are there oil sample analysis results from the last few changes? Anything else? (I've owned several Beechcraft aircraft, so curious.)

    • @JeffMerrillYachts

      @@olbuck Thank you very much. It is definitely a process to figure out how to present an area, determine what footage is needed and then put it all together, thanks for you kind note. The hours are in line with other Nordhavns (these boats travel). The buyer should have a hull surveyor and a diesel mechanic for inspections. Maintenance records are also very helpful and the current owner knows aircraft so he's on it.

Also watched the Granuaile shakedown, which would make our eventual move from an express into one of these a lot smoother.

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  3 роки тому +1

      Wayne: The market is different now, there are more buyers than boats and the sellers have come up with an asking price number that they are comfortable with (they have been approached before, but were never ready to sell). Time and the market will show what is fair. You could hop aboard and take off right now, or you could wait and upgrade everything. All of the original selections are solid, just depends on what the buyer is looking for in condition and equipment. Thanks for your note.

    Great presentation. But 6000 hours on a predominately one engine boat is concerning.

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  3 роки тому +3

      Allen: Good point, but the reality is these Lugger engines are continuous duty rated and will last 30,000 hours before a major overhaul if you look after them. For comparison sake, this is about 525 hours running a year, under 22 days and in my experience an active boat is usually more reliable than one that sits around as a marina queen. The single engine owners typically take great care since they do have on primary and many of the Nordhavns are equipped with a wing engine for back up propulsion. Thanks for you note!

      Tony: Asking price is a starting point for seller and buyers. In this economy and for this model, there are no other alternatives available. Time will tell if the price is high (funny, how they are never too low), and you could spend a fortune upgrading and waiting at the dock (on this or almost any boat) or hop aboard and go for a long run on SEABIRD. It all depends upon your experience and familiarity. Surveyors always find things the owners overlooked. I have never seen a "turn key boat" that didn't need something and there is no such thing as "flawless" as so often claimed. If you are interested I welcome your visit.
