We all have different methods of doing things. When identifying an Engine Room Fire. The first thing I choose to do is evacuate all people from Engine Room. The I sound the alarm, then I start fighting the fire. When performing CPR I like his concern for the patient asking if he is okay checking for breathing. But I hope no one would start CPR on me before checking for a pulse. Beautiful boat and excellent instruction video. Thank you for a job well done.

I was an industrial and marine fire suppression tech one day a guy walked into my shop with his discharged automatic halon system bottle. He told me his boat had burned down to the waterline, he wanted to know why the halon didn’t work (he was a lawyer so I think he was looking for fault). I asked him if he had a automatic or manual engine and ventilation shutdown or a red indicator light on the dash, he had none. He left more frustrated after I told him the engine and the ventilation sucked the halon out of the engine room. It was a hard lesson learned.

Nice video ! It’s absolutely a good idea to shut down the blowers if there’s a fire in the Engineroom. This boat actually has three blowers. They don’t move much air, 2 of them likely through small 3 inch ducting and the 3rd cools the stack and exits through a stainless pipe on the port side of the stack. Just so you know, the sea fire system WILL shut down the blowers when the pressure drops in the extinguisher tank.
There may have been a blower fan or two, mounted at the back of the Engineroom bringing air in. These are probably not factory installed.
If they were added, the wiring should be checked to make sure they also shut down upon sea fire bottle discharge.
If those aft fans aren’t there and the boat is going to cruised in warm climates, you should consider adding them. It’ll make a big difference to Engineroom temps.

    The fire extinguisher thing:
I know it in the way that engine room is automatically flooded with inert gas in case of too high temperatures in engine room. The same time engines and blowers are switched off automatically too. Fuel lines must be than shut off manually outside engine room.
In addition to this there are override switches at helm stations to be able to restart engines.

Great video but one thing from the Nordhavns I’ve looked at the engine room fire suppression system has a built in kill switch for the intake fans but leave the exhaust fans running on high just something to double check on the vessel you are on

I never thought of a check list for emergency on a boat like an airplane. Makes perfect sense, but I never thought about it.

Most, if not all Nordhavn’s fire suppression systems automatically shut off both intake and exhaust blowers. Including the running gear.

As a Nurse, everyone should be CPR certified & the owner should spend the money and have an AED on board ! Especially if you’re making transatlantic crossing’s !

Hey Tristan, love your videos and I have a great amount of respect for you, so this isn't a criticism but rather clarification. MOB, I have been trained to approach a MOB from down wind. I think I noticed in your drill you had the captain approach from the windward side of the MOB, when full beam in rough areas you run the risk of drifting over the MOB while trying to retrieve the person. Can you please provide some insight to your approach? Thanks in advance.
