The Nordhavn 56 has been the boat of my dreams for many years. Unfortunately it will always remain a dream. Thanks for a look at a truly beautiful boat
Camaro: Thank you! We started doing the floorplan diagram a couple of years ago. When you can only film one area at a time it does help keep you oriented by location.
I delivered a 56MS from Puerto Vallarta to New Zealand. It was comfortable and easy to sail even singlehanded. The controllable pitch prop makes it an excellent motorsailor. Downwind the boat sails well, and we did 85% of the trip under sail only, upwind you definitely want the engine in gear, but with sail assist and the prop pitched correctly its relatively economical. The build quality is high and the systems are robust.
Deerfoot: I was not aware that a Nordhavn 56 MS had made a Pacific crossing, that is a great report, thank you! And you sailed most of the way, exactly how she was intended to be cruised. Thank you very much for sharing your real world experience aboard!

I've always wondered how much can such a big boat make on sails alone? Darkest: The sailing in light wind is the real news, most sailboats can handle a blow. The sails are to enjoy peace and quiet and travel far, but you can also balance/offset with the engine propulsion. Sails are a primary or back up, same with the Lugger main. There should be a lot more of these, I am a very strong proponent of the Nordhavn 56 motorsailer and wish there were dozens of them out cruising.
Great looking boat, in great condition. Is that the standard gray gel coat? For some reason, my iPad screen gives the hull a slightly bluish tint. Best, Maldwin

Jeff, you are my favorite yacht salesperson. Your last couple years of walkthroughs are by far the best, especially because of the ‘boat legend’ that shows the camera angle and location. So good. Been watching your videos since you were with Nordhavn specifically. I love the 56ms, so pretty and useful. Personally I would want the sailing cockpit for nice cruising days but I get to each it’s own. Love the hull #1 vids you made. ‘Kindred Spirits’ (2nd round) and Pitch perfect’ 56ms looked like a good ones and good price. I would have to name it ‘someday’ apparently. Blueish hulls look great on the 56ms. Are they/will they (Nordhavn) still making these? Guessing tariffs possible issue. I also really love your videos of Diesel Duck 382 ‘Jubilee’. I think those are gorgeous and very safe passage makers. That little guy was an amazing price for what it was. Thanks again for the great videos and you are making future yacht owners when you do them. PS. Let me know how to be an intern sir.
Matt: Thank you very much for your nice message. The Nordhavn 56 motorsailer is an amazing cruising platform. I understand that hull #10 is in build so I hope that creates some more interest for this model. (Tariff is China, Motorsailer built in Taiwan). Diesel Ducks are fun sail-assisted trawlers too, we have helped several clients with them. I enjoy doing the videos and they mean more when I hear from people like you, so thank you. Please send me a direct email, we don't really have interns, but maybe I can help point you in the right direction if this is a career you want to join.
Jabootie: in 30' seas you would have everything secure and not be doing a lot of cooking. I have not been underway aboard a MS56 in those kinds of conditions.
@@JeffMerrillYachts My question was regarding her ability of avoiding broach in a heavy following sea. At 10 knots it's 3 weeks from Costa Rica to Hawaii. Forecasts can change a lot in the middle of the pond. Will she surf, or broach? Respectfully, Mr Merrill
Jeff - these motorsailers seem to be much less cost per foot than “normal” Nordhavn yachts. 1) is that true 2) do you have any reason why? Do they have known higher costs or issues or is it just people want either/or but not both.
Ystebad: A new 56 is on order and is over $2.5 million. That is a fair price, numbers wise, they just built fewer of this model and even though she is exquisite, the popularity never achieved the fame of the trawlers built by Nordhavn. Perelandra is a great value, you can see the thought and care lavished - you never know how long a boat will be available when she hits the market, we only need one buyer and we do have a lot of interest.
Absolutely gorgeous in her old school style. I do wonder about the use of freshwater toilets with a fairly small water storage. I know she has a large capacity water maker but why use so much energy to make water when salt water is free. 66cm head room in the engine room is problematic, especially for older owners, changing filters would be a back breaking task. Induction cooktops are the very best but they use a massive amount of energy and all those lead acid batteries must weigh a “ton”. More solar panels, regenerative gearbox/prop and LiFePo4 batteries would lessen the need for the generator.
8949. Thank you for outlining your thoughts. What type of boat do you own? I appreciate your thoughts, but, like everything on a boat there is always another view or way. Freshwater toilets are very common and for a sailboat of this size 350 gallons is a lot of flushing power. I find the engine access superb compared to the engine "lockers" on so many sailboats. AGM batteries are safe, practical and yes, very heavy - this is a full displacement boat that has 17,500 pounds of ballast in the keel - the battery weight is not a factor. The next owner can do all of the upgrades you suggest if they feel they are needed, this yacht has served this couple for over a dozen years and the solar and Lithium upgrades were not available or as common when Perlandra was built. Check out the generator hours on our website, it has not been overworked! Thank you for watching
Absolutely beautiful. T craftsmanship is insane. Must look amazing in person. And u can see t owners love their boat. Now....dumbass question...y is water coming out of t back(aft?) right side from a pipe? Grt tour. Thank u!

Love it. Will they take payments? Say 300/mo for the next 200 yrs ? Really a nice boat. I had a poor mans version of this boat, a Cal ll-46. Motored nearly as well with near a 2000 Mile range sailed very well, walk-in engine room with 8K gen, 20 gpa WM. Drill press vice etc. amazing boat. Crossed oceans with it. And has been doing so since 1973 and and doing so still. Hey, you get what you can afford and go! But indeed this is a beautiful vessel. Thanks for the tour. Capt Fred.
Captain Fred: Thank you for your fun message, I like the concept of your offer, but alas, it will probably be a gentle no. Cal II-46, like all Cal's a classic. Yes, sheet in and go while you can!
Love these boats - so rare. Motorsailers never really took off - I don't understand why. They don't really appeal to purists of any stripe. I'm always surprised how much customization Nordhavn will do. PAE built a line of sailboats - The Mason line - which are also very rare, but it does show that they know how to make a sailboat.
2273: Thank you. Jeff Leishman created an amazing design, ahead of her time and not appreciated for what a fantastic concept and complete package this boat offers. Yes, from Mason to Nordhavn and then "backfilling" to the motorsailer.
Erica: Thank you for asking, sorry if this is unclear. With sails your range is unlimited (as long as you have some breezed). If you were to just rely on the main engine only, your range is 3,000 miles under power.
@jeffMerrillYachts, This boat is fantastic, the owners decor is whimsical and lovely, Jeff this the first tour of yours I've seen and I appreciate the way this is presented.
Remy: The new MS56 in build will come in well over $3.0 million. Perelandra is ready to go and, as you have seen, in beautiful condition. Remember, the price to become the owner is not always where the spending stops - the true purchase price is realized a year after taking possession when you can add up all of the post closing repairs, upgrades, changes and improvements. We have had a lot of interest in Perelandra, every boat has a different story. Thanks for watching.
This is the only Motor- Sailer that I would own. Reason? Engine room access and the amount of refrigeration she has Not that everything else she has wasn’t wonderfully thought out… 2 steps up to-the head? Haha
Hi Frank! Thank you for watching and commenting. This really is an awesome yacht - the unlimited range is just one of the side benefits of a gorgeous vessel that has been thought through detail by detail and obviously lovingly cared for!
I’m not sure about the motor/sailer thing, so does it increase the range or can you actually go anywhere with just the sails up, what’s the stability like in 20 knots and couple meters?
4U: The sails allow unlimited range as long as you have wind. If you don't have wind the Lugger engine will carry you as long as you have fuel to burn. Yes, the mainsail up will add to stability. She would love 20 knots of breeze and a good ocean swell to tackle.
Rod: In a 20 knot plus breeze with the sails adjusted properly I believe you will sail a lot faster than six knots but don't have real world data at my fingertips to share. Sailors have been traversing the globe for centuries so I'm not sure I understand your second point, but thanks for watching.
Just a thought, but the first thing when you come onto the boat is that railing. Maybe polish it up a bit. Had a negative view of the yacht right off the get go. Just saying...
MrRich - I get a lot of odd comments (and appreciate that you took the time to share your thoughts) but if you are going to critique this yacht by commenting that the railing isn't up to your standards I'm sorry but I think you have different priorities than most of our viewers. This may be important to you, but I am surprised that something that simple would give you a negative impression. If you watched the rest of the video you most likely saw that your initial reaction was off the mark
@@JeffMerrillYachts I did watch the video and the boat was in excellent shape. I just was pointing out it's literally the first thing you see in the video.
@@concentratedquattro Happy to receive constructive criticism for my video production and narration. However an unwarranted and trivial slight on the boat is not fair and something I feel compelled to counter. I simply don't see unpolished stainless railing, do you? And, even if there is a water spot or a blemish, is that important? I thank MrRich2u for saying the boat is in excellent shape in his response. I do try to reply to all comments. Most buyers will call or email me if they want to go into detail and many buyers watch the same video over and over so I really do try to be thorough in my representation. Realize I can't change your reaction, but thank you for your note. We can certainly agree that Perelandra is a beautiful boat. I'm always available to engage directly with anyone who is interested.
7846 - your message translates to: Why does the path around the ship end with a lounge? // I'm sorry, I do not understand your question. Are you talking about the deck or the interior?
John: That is an interesting observation, they have worked fine since day one and they are the same on the other motorsailers as far as I know...if you want to become the new owner you can change them, but I think you will find they are just fine the way they are.
Xanth was what got me into SciFi/Fantasy as a kid but his particular style and punization of all was a contribution to aspects of my reading and writing I can't begin to describe or understand and it makes me wonder who's boat this was considering....bout everything boat it
Love everything about it but the colour, nordhaven consistently has the worst hull colours in the industry. That being said, if I could, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Terry: That is an interesting comment, as you will see others love it (including me) it's more than the normal Nordhavn gray, it has hints of blue and green depending upon the lighting. Of course, the next owner can paint her any color they wish, that is a relatively easy change and as you indicated, she is worth of purchase and ready to set sail for new adventures.
Couldn't agree more, and with the price of fuel today she's the perfect boat, I guess I'm a traditionalist, I would like to see her in royal blue. @@JeffMerrillYachts
Rvail: Thank you for watching. I love the choices they made (as have most of our viewers). This is one of the nicest Nordhavns I have listed and I LOVE their choices.
It's no Bahamas boat, but it is a west coast Vancouver to Phillipines boat. The limiting factors are only two cabins and no good sea births. That forward cabin needs the head/dual cabin arrangement of the N52.
less your face and more video of the boats. It's like you are a fast talking used car salesman. I've subscribed for years and the only way I can watch the videos is to mute the sound. Love your videos otherwise. Thanks for the effort
PD: Noted. Appreciate your comment, but I'm not going to change being in my videos, it's how I do this. Might I suggest you turn off the sound ? You might get a kick out of the closed caption option - usually hilarious mis-interpretations. I have a short amount of time to tour an entire boat, of course I have to speed up my speech. The words I say are not made up, it's a fact based presentation and I'm not asking anyone to buy anything, so I don't think your used car comment is warranted. Thanks for watching.
I think you need to be in your video for perspective and judging space on the boat. The salesman comment is unwarranted. I think you are a sailsman though. I think a small day head in the pilothouse to ort of the rear door would be a good option. There would still be room for a barrel chair in front to port.

Nice guitar playing.
Paul: Thank you for listening!
Amazing Boat, I thought it would be north of 1mil as well.
Solun: Replacement new would be well over 3.0 million, Perelandra is an incredible value. Thank you for watching.
Great name! CS Lewis would approve!
Matthew - yes sir, you get it!
I was going to ask if this is owned by a man named Ransom
@@Cleopas82 Nope, just a wonderful couple who have excellent taste
She's a lovely ship, the counters need an dam edge to foil items sliding off. How is she against not broaching caught in a 30+ foot following sea?
Jabootie: in 30' seas you would have everything secure and not be doing a lot of cooking. I have not been underway aboard a MS56 in those kinds of conditions.
@@JeffMerrillYachts My question was regarding her ability of avoiding broach in a heavy following sea. At 10 knots it's 3 weeks from Costa Rica to Hawaii. Forecasts can change a lot in the middle of the pond. Will she surf, or broach? Respectfully, Mr Merrill
Nicely presented
Tom: Thank you!
Grt tour. Thank u!
Woody: Thank you. Really is an amazing boat. I believe the water coming out of the back you are mentioning is the air conditioning discharge.
@@JeffMerrillYachts 🤣 So sorry Jeff, wasn't expecting that answer. And thank you for your reply.
Your right.. a dumb question. It's the engine exhaust.. maybe the generator exhaust. It could possible be a bilge pump outlet. 😞⛵
@PaulStClair-or3gj yep, def a dumb question from me. And thank u for showing me u lack t answer too. Gave me a good laugh 🤣. I'm going with air-conditioning discharge. 🍻
Beautiful motorsailor anymof them for sale on west coast u know of? Tyvm great presentation
Dennis: Nordhavn/PAE has one for sale in San Diego, I'm not sure of any others. Thank you for watching!
You say the power range is 3000 miles. Does this mean it cannot travel by sails alone? Why? Too heavy?
Erica: Thank you for asking, sorry if this is unclear. With sails your range is unlimited (as long as you have some breezed). If you were to just rely on the main engine only, your range is 3,000 miles under power.
@@JeffMerrillYachts Thank you. I thought maybe it only traveled under motor-sailing. But I understand now. thanks. and Merry Christmas!
@jeffMerrillYachts, This boat is fantastic, the owners decor is whimsical and lovely, Jeff this the first tour of yours I've seen and I appreciate the way this is presented.
@@williamlondon6269 Thank you for your nice note, very fun people and super cool boat. There are a few more JMYS UA-cam tours you can take... Cheers!

Beautiful boat. Quite a bit more expensive than I was expecting, compared to other 56’s.
@@JeffMerrillYachts Maybe but this boat is 13 years old!
This is the only Motor- Sailer that I would own. Reason? Engine room access and the amount of refrigeration she has
Not that everything else she has wasn’t wonderfully thought out… 2 steps up to-the head? Haha
Hi Frank! Thank you for watching and commenting. This really is an awesome yacht - the unlimited range is just one of the side benefits of a gorgeous vessel that has been thought through detail by detail and obviously lovingly cared for!
👍👍👍Благодарствую Джеффф!!!🤝🤝🤝
Zoza: Thank you!
good one! cheers!
2697: Thank you!
I’m not sure about the motor/sailer thing, so does it increase the range or can you actually go anywhere with just the sails up, what’s the stability like in 20 knots and couple meters?
Sail power only should give you around 6 knots in decent wind. You can do sail only passages in the right conditions.
I thought these boats had a forward cockpit.
Ray: Two different layouts. One has the forward cockpit, this one did not.
@@MrRich2u It really is not something that I noticed or agree with you on. This boat is in amazing condition
@@JeffMerrillYachtsWould it hurt you to take some constructive criticism from what could be perspective buyers? Beautiful boat, off putting response.
There is only one thing missing on this yacht … me. Some years ago I saw one of these and wanted it maybe I can talk the wife into this one.
Eddie: Good one! Please let me know if you would like to schedule a visit to get aboard!
She is beautiful...
Muson: Thank you for watching, I agree.
Zašto se staza oko broda prekida salonom.?
7846 - your message translates to: Why does the path around the ship end with a lounge? // I'm sorry, I do not understand your question. Are you talking about the deck or the interior?
The cabin doors are on backwards.
John: That is an interesting observation, they have worked fine since day one and they are the same on the other motorsailers as far as I know...if you want to become the new owner you can change them, but I think you will find they are just fine the way they are.
$895K that's a deal.
6229: Thank you, I agree. Spectacular Nordhavn 56 in so many ways.
Nice
Thank you Paul
Love it
Denis: Thank you!
Tha lamps and art work being removed?? Deal breaker for me. Esspecially the dog picture. Nice boat though Jeff!
Mark: Everyone has their own preferences. Blue Dog painting is from a famous artist, it's super cool (and already been removed). Thanks for watching.
Indeed they do :)
Xanth was what got me into SciFi/Fantasy as a kid but his particular style and punization of all was a contribution to aspects of my reading and writing I can't begin to describe or understand and it makes me wonder who's boat this was considering....bout everything boat it
Kevin: Thank you for watching, C. S. Lewis was inspiring!
Wow, kind of a dream boat.... perfect!

Красавица 😍
Dmitry: Yes, agree - she is a beauty!
Очень красивая!

Thank you!
Dont think they sold many of them
Clausse: I believe hull number 10 was just launched, so they are precious gems to those who appreciate them.
They have a Blue Dog!!!
Sean: Good story behind that painting! (Does not convey with the yacht).

$895K asking price.
Howes: Correct, we have the price in our description.
It s like all season tires. Bad in Winter, bad in summer. Cant sail properly, Motors slow.
Obviously you have never been aboard, or you are trying to be funny
Ten chlap vypadá, jako kdyby Mulace pobodaly včely :D
Vlachyna: I translated your message, but it is not clear. Did you think something was overlooked?
I'm looking for a nordhavn 56, but I don't like the choices the owners made on outfitting this one. I'll give this one a pass.
Can I ask why? I am really curious. I don't own a boat but always want to learn.
Rvail: Thank you for watching. I love the choices they made (as have most of our viewers). This is one of the nicest Nordhavns I have listed and I LOVE their choices.
I'm curious too...
Can't afford it. Just a stupid way of saying it. IMHO
For a sailboat, it’s pretty ugly. Proportions are lost. Am I the first to see that?!
Olij: It's a motorsailer, not a sailboat. I am used to the looks and like it. I guess "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
No thanks.
Steve: Thank you
Looks like a nightmare!
Nolan: Please enlighten me
@@JeffMerrillYachts 7' draft will be very limiting in many ways.
That’s my father in law ❤️✨ he’s so good at selling boats 🛥️
Hi Sophia, thank you very much for your kind words!
