I went to lollapalooza during it’s early years. The headliners were primus and Alice In Chains. The opening band was rage against the machine and on the second stage was tool. That concert changed me forever. The music was incredible and epic.

These guys go way back with Maynard and Tool. Maynard actually taught Morello how to play guitar in drop D tuning, and Morello and Adam Jones were playing together in high school.

Jhonny Cage X Rage I can’t disagree with that statement ! I remember Morello telling that story on his radio show, and he said when Maynard showed him drop D, that unlocked everything for him when it came to writing riffs. Obviously Adam Jones uses it constantly as well, and it’s a thing of beauty.

One memory that never fades for me, as best I can remember it. I was in highschool, 1998 or 99, waiting for French class to start. I can't remember what started the conversation... I was a typical goth kid sitting next to one of the preppy/jock type dudes that I usually disdained. Anyway, me and dude steike up a short convo about RATM, and he elaborates on the reasons he LOVES them. Especially Tom Morello and his ultra unique approach to guitar tech. Simple, old-school, almost primitive machines. Techniques that require physical skill, not just fancy modern gear that does half the work for you. I was slightly taken aback by this preppy dudes knowledge and insight for a band I would never have guessed he would be into. Just goes to show that it takes all kinds to make this world.

I like the way you summed up your feelings about RATM at the end of the video. They are simultaneously loved and hated, mostly due the strong political, but mostly, social message they convey. When I first heard them back in '92, that first record,...I listened to it soooo much. I just loved the energy, the riffs, groove and funk it brought. They melded rock and hip hop so well. The lyrical message, at the time, I didn't put a lot of thought into it to be honest. But as I got older I understood where it was coming from. You don't always have to agree with the message but you can still love the music.

After the attacks on 9/11 happened, a bulletin was sent to radio stations, asking them not to play a list of songs, out of respect for the victims and survivors of the attack. A lot of bands and artists were on there for one song that might be misinterpreted. On that list of SONGS, was this: "ANYTHING by Rage Against the Machine". They were the only band on that list that had their ENTIRE CATALOGUE banned.

Love your reactions! Been watching them a lot lately... I’ve always wanted to see a good reaction to J-Jon’s “Statistics”. It’s such a crazy song that I’m sure tons of people can relate too, cheers!

Tom Morello introduced Adam Jones to Maynard. Tom and Adam knew each other before they moved to LA. I like how, especially on CD, all the musicians in Rage alter their sound to sound like the then barely known Tool for Maynard's section.

Cool video. Im 45yo and cant explain how amped I am about the lyrics to my 10 & 8 yo sons. I have the same fire inside as I did back then when I seen them live. It wasnt just a concert it was a movement.

Brotha, this band is one of the most iconic in style and lyrics. Way before their time! And now soo damn relevant to our times now. If you haven’t seen them live at Woodstock you need to. ✌️

I've definately not been in the thick of things... I grew up in a prairie province up in Canada listening to top 40 stuff in the 80s. Nine Inch Nails and Rage Against The Machine were the catalyst to my musical shift in my early 20s. I swear, I wore out my first RATM cd.... damn those good times.
