Does this case appeal to you for any new build you have in mind? Have Cooler Master nailed the design for you? What would you change, let us know in the comments below.
it's a clear example of how to take a good case and make it worse in almost every regard but also charging more. the SFF discord laughed very hard at the changes, even the CM rep there alluded to the fact that he was against the changes. But hey CM does what they want with their money, i have no use for a case with a riser while i can better use the space by using the classic layout.
Don't think this is great for first time builders. I'd consider taking that fan out during the build and maybe swapping it for a slim 120mm fan for better gpu room on the bottom. I've done two builds with this case a Pink build for the wife in the original version, and my personal build with a 7950X-3D & 4090 using the NR200P MAX. It can be a challenge but satisfying once its actually done and working. It does make you miss cases like the Fractal Torrent Mini. I wished CoolerMaster would make a dual chamber version.
not much of a labyrinth, some numbers/letters for a model ID, then they trough V2 at the end. The only thing weird is that its not a v2. It would be like Sony do a PS4/5 Pro that was weaker than the original, or just the same with nothing really to stand out.
I really like the way you tested temps and acoustics. Sure the fancy dB readouts and 17 different tests for temps are cool and all, but at the end of the day, I don't actually care that much about those. What I care about is a rough estimation of what things will sound like and rough temperatures I can expect, because believe it or not the fancy testing environments that people use do not reflect what my actual setup space is like. So yeah I really appreciate the more practical tests shown here, very useful. Thank you for the review :)
@@boltsandbraces6261 Honestly, the venerable Hyper 212 Evo would fit in the original NR200 - and I'm presuming the motherboard height and case width are the same - so even a 120mm tower cooler should fit in this case without a GPU (I use a Ryzen 5 5600G without a GPU in the original for a HTPC). Otherwise would think a Noctua horizontal heatsink would fit, given that there's the power supply AND a 3.5" hard drive taking up "vertical" space on the far edge of the GPU slot which could leave room for it.
This was an ideal choice for me, needed a case to house an upgrade GPU (longer then previous), my existing Lian Li TU150 case would not take it. Wanted to use existing parts so would not have gone for the MAX. The V2 with USB C front IO and being so flexible in build accessibility made it my top choice.
They should have called this the NR210 or something. 'V2' implies that it's 'better' compared to the V1. The original NR200P is a lot more versatile, but I get why this exists. Lots of SFF enthusiasts would already have the SFF PSU and 240mm AIO, and would just need a case.
Also if you can get a cheaper AIO and SFX PSU you can just buy this version and done. Or maybe you can't find a V2 MAX available but there is a V2 available.
I don't mind losing that extra SSD in the front since you can just stack them in that single slot and the front panel will still fit without issue. That's what I'm doing now in the original NR200P, have 2 Samsung 870EVO's taped together so I can have all my fans routed to a Corsair Commander module on the 2nd SSD spot.
I can tell you what happened. Executives at Cooler Master realized that they wanted to ship more of liquid coolers and power supplies. So they took their most popular case; NR200P. Which was absolutely brilliant and highly configurable. Discontinued it and turned it into a bespoke design for one configuration... So what consumers got was a worse product all-in-all... I would recommend everyone not to purchase this case to send a message to Cooler Master, that we prefer configurability.
I'm certainly glad the case exists. Many sff enthusiasts will already have a power supply or cooler ready to go. I'm certainly glad the Max exists to make the whole process easier.
It's likely good if you already have the parts or want to shop around and potentially save a bit of money, but for people like me who want the least hassle and clean cabling, I'll happily take the new v2 max :)
I already have an SFX-L PSU. I am planning custom loop with external radiator, so I don't need the cooler. This looks like a perfect case for me. If there was only MAX barebone kit I'd never consider it.
This case is simply for people who already have an sfx psu and aio and simply want the case. No need to spend more money on parts you already have. There are a couple of other cases I wish that did this for us.
Would love to see a noise-normalised thermal comparison with the original NR200, where the vertical GPU performed quite a bit worse than the horizontal. Even more so if the GPU is thick enough to deshroud and directly use the 120mm case fans to cool it.
i didnt had any room for my 15mm fans :( alot of ppl said they did but i didnt :( it looked like the riser cable and power connector was clashing that area :(
which direction is better to set the air flow? suck it in from the top through the AIO and blow it out from the bottom? Can it be the other way around, suck it in through the dock and blow it out through Aio?
Great review, having just done a NR200 last September as my first build, it's very fiddly indeed. I hate that they have actually reduced the choice of CPU cooling and GPU mounting options. The best upgrades are the USB-C Front panel option plus the existing two Type A's and the cooling hole at the front (sorry it's a GPU poke through hole really) For now a 4080 i5 1300k is enough for a few years, hopefully by the time I need there will be a NR200 v3 with more config options.
Nice looking case! I have an old NZXT H200i, debating whether to switch it out for something new like this? UA-cam ads are really getting rather frequent and intrusive :(
I thought the V1 was going to be discontinued, it doens't seem like there is any stock of it atm. As a V1 owner I don't like the V2, the only good thing are the fan rails on the roof of the case...but it removes a lot of options from the V1. I probably looking elsewhere if I need to replace any of my V1s
@hairsprungdutchtechnique9626 flexibility, the max and this doesn't let the user pick their own build. Can't use any great air coolers, can't do triple rad custom loop, can't choose vertical or horizontal gpu.
I think they now do a MAX 2 as well. THe Max is 377x185x292. The NR200P V2 here is 372 x 185 x 292mm - so I think they are the same, based on the CM website, which is a mess to navigate.
I think there are some people who wanted the Max but without the AIO and PSU, because I wanted to install an AIO or PSU of their choice. Another reason is for those who want to put a custom water inside it.
The other point made about the original NR200 was that the radiator for the AIO wasn't at the top of the loop, so the pump could theoretically have bubbles trapped inside when the fluid permeates. With vertical GPU mounts, some put the radiator in the floor of the old case. This could then lead to relatively premature pump failure.
Can i buy this case to change the colour of the pannels (top sides front) on my nr200p max as well as the usb power switch module? i don't want to rebuild my pc just give it a face-lift.
Cooler Master in it's heyday would have none of this. Now, just slap a newish name on existing tooling, and off we go with a "new" sku. I'm sure the manufacturer was thrilled.
They should have made it exactly the same as the NR200 but with the ability to top mount a rad or fans like in the V2 or max. And then called it the NR200 Evo....job done This is not great for those that air cool.
The max had issues with the aio and psu. Noisy pump and psu, people would end up changing them up. So it would end up being a waste of money to buy it. I always thought it was an awful purchase, as it was 400 usd. Cooler master decided to sell the case by itself with new side panesl and usb-c but..... they did indeed want this to replace the standard nr200p, hence the name v2. Once this was reported by pc world, most of the community was not happy about it. Cooler master got lots of negative feedback, as the v2 is a far more limiting case. Eventually, they rolled back the decision to discontinue the nr200p and left the name v2 on this model. I just can’t believe they made the NR200P worse, and then had the brilliant idea of discontinuing the better version. Completely disinterested in the product.
Well it would seem to suit an Intel i7 and i9 which run far too hot for an air cooler anyway. Only problem is the minimum recommended radiator needed is 340mm. The NR200P max came preinstalled with a “special” 280mm radiator with an extra 25% fins over standard radiators which is just ok for an i9. So Intel guys are going to need to really think carefully about the choice of water cooler if they choose this case. I am building an NR200P max as we speak and purchased two optional extra fans for the bottom of the case. Unfortunately with the riser card in place, a slim “15mm” 120mm fan is the biggest that will fit under the cpu.
this is legitimately just a worse version of the case- this has always been the affordable option for an ITX case and they go with 120 dollars- pure liquid cooling in mind Also, I don’t even know the purpose of them giving a tempered glass panel. It’s just gonna smother the GPU. This is a total step back in every single way I hope they start releasing the old version again because this is a step back in every single way
its not really, its just a stupid name for the product. Like most Cooler Master products. They hire managers who just complicate things with daft conventions that make no sense.

Fair conclusion Leo. I personally wish more air coolers could be used. Sick of AIO lately.

eyy, easy with that case man, dont slap things to the table wth
It’s probably already in the bin so I wouldn’t worry about it 😅
@@theonlyredspecial they don't care about them cause they got them for free from OEMs, unlike us who get this stuff with our hard earned money
Continue to flash the bird as us - so rude. One wonders if he has a specific person or group in mind.
It's a sign of respect in the UK
this is legitimately just a worse version of the case- this has always been the affordable option for an ITX case and they go with 120 dollars- pure liquid cooling in mind
Also, I don’t even know the purpose of them giving a tempered glass panel. It’s just gonna smother the GPU.
This is a total step back in every single way I hope they start releasing the old version again because this is a step back in every single way
Well I agree. It’s a stupid name. 😂
man that cpu cooler sucks for this 7800x3d. a 30$ phantom spirit will do a much better job
You can't see your components any More😂 bec of the graphics card Mount
the V2 is a straight downgrade- the design is very limiting now.
Air Flow Fail Crap 🤣🤣🤣
I may be being harsh here but this case seems utterly pointless in their current product stack.
its not really, its just a stupid name for the product. Like most Cooler Master products. They hire managers who just complicate things with daft conventions that make no sense.
I don't like this guy
