Considering how much of a status symbol that case is, yes you should absolutely build in it again, yes it should absolutely be custom. I've followed you for quite a few years now, I remember when you started the build in that case. Absolutely 100%, speaking for everyone, do another build in it. If you aren't going to paint the case and can't think of anything else to call it, call it the Grey Area

As a CaseLabs owner myself, the title of this vid saddened me. Hearing you still love the case and want to do something custom, over the top makes it all better though. Can’t wait!

Caselabs is allegedly back under new ownership according to GN. However whether they’d live up to their legacy remains to be seen.

I love seeing Jay do custom builds. He's passionate about it like 1990s - 2000s peeps were passionate about their custom builds and that's a rare thing today. Every detail has a meaning and purpose and no obstacle cannot be overcome.

Very rarely comment on UA-cam however this machine was one of the first I ever saw when learning to build a pc on UA-cam. Absolutely keep it going. Just a suggestion why don’t you call it Missouri after the last American battleship that continued to serve until 1992. Just like this case will continue to inspire builds for years to come.

the 5990wx will happen though i wouldnt get it with genoa around the corner and the corecount improvement 96 cores to 128? cores will happen in the next architecture

I totally didn't know about Thermaltake screwing over CaseLabs. That's a bummer. I just assumed they closed due to lack of demand and there prices were a bit high. Sad news indeed. On another note, I call dibs on your 2080's :)

The Core series was a direct result of the " influence" thermaltake took from caselabs. Jay has a video on it from a while back. 😭
I thought it was the metal tariffs trump put in place plus the pandemic that killed them off.
I think in their closing statement, CaseLabs blamed the aluminum tariffs for them choosing to close down
It was the reason why Jay disrespectfully threw the Thermaltake fans that were provided with (I think) the first Threadripper generation, on the floor. But besides that Thermaltake is also a brand like Gigabyte is now: Some products are good while others are garbage. So better stay away from all of them as the warranty is terrible.

As someone who subscribed ..quite later after this pc was built, its very interesting to see a video on it, even if it is a dissasembly video.
...Yes, i could've gone back and watched the original videos on it i suppose, but sadly as an adult my free time has somehow decided to just .. run away. If you find my free time, please let me know. I miss it.

You are the reason I have a CaseLabs SMA8. Hope you rebuild her! I'm still using the caselabs SMA8 with my new build.
With actual custom parts I'd love to see that build. Maybe even bring in Phill's 3d printer for some 3d printed parts.

Also that color would probably have a pretty good start to being a modern day aircraft carrier if you wanted to incorporate some of your ship model skills into it.
I like the custom distro-plate idea, it sounds like it would look really cool. Always like seeing the builds you come up with, and seeing some more completely custom work would be great.
When I see a custom loop job: "Wow! That looks awesome!"

A ghost theme would be great for that case with the tragic history of its manufacturer, would work with the gray very well too. Something like Poltergeist or Revenant. Maybe just Geist.

I love how that case looks. I just wish companies make them like that, so industrial and clean.
Look around to find some used server cases. Not the blade servers, but older tower servers. They are very straightforward and modular (slide the motherboard out etc) . Unfortunately many are also proprietary , meaning it made exactly to fit one type of motherboard etc.. but they can be modded. They are also far more durable and heavy duty, they are made to last.
To bad Case Labs stopped making cases. They looked like some of the best built cases. Would have liked to buy one for myself.

It needs to be nasty, we know that already. But as far as a theme... That's going to be a little tough. It's already gunmetal/ destroyer grey... Maybe do a full on battleship build? Decal it up like a destroyer class.

Absolutely build something custom and suited to that case! It is fun to watch you work through the roadblocks and snags to achieve your vision for a build. (My dad was always finagling ways to "make it work".) The process applies to more than building computers, and I would love to go along for the ride.

Yes you should do something, a cool name for the case would be "Phoenix" (mythical creature, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor).
"Phoenix CL" with the CL to honor Case Lab.
He could use the grey of the case like the ashes and have red coolant and red/orange/yellow RGB fans/lights.

Heh! The PC I'm on right now is named "Phoenix" for exactly that reason... Though it's died and returned to life so many times since then, I should probably re-name it "Harkness". =:o}
Would love to see this case rebirthed. The matte finish of that case is honestly what caught my eye when I first found your channel. I come from a mil/avionics background so I am a sucker for that more "function" ruggedized aesthetic. I am sure there are tons of callouts for a more ship themed build, but I will go ahead and add to that callout since the bare case reminds me a lot of equipment I saw when I visited my grandfather's old Navy Sherman-class destroyer that is now a museum piece up in Washington.
This would be a huge project but what if you had 2 motherboards, one for AMD and one for Intel in there. Just an idea but it could be really cool if your going for extreme overkill

Absolutely do a custom build in the CaseLabs case. The skunkworks build(s), the case, and the company are all legends of the PC building scene and the case definitely deserves to live once more. And CaseLabs cases were all about excess, overkill, and customization, so I feel like modding the case to something even more unique, custom, and suitable to a modern build, is perfectly in the spirit of the original builds and purpose of the case.

Hell yes build something over-the-top in that case. I’d love to see a over the top render rig with an AMD 7003 server CPU & water cooled workstation GPUs. With 10G+ networking, it could stay in the background & still be utilized.

Would love to see a custom build with individual length cables, (looked into custom made cables and think it is pretty straightforward with the right tooling and parts). If you do it make sure you use the time for extra vids on cabling :) warts and all.

turn this Case your Lab, Jay, i think that skunkworks was always the flagship eyecandy of the channel, the materialization of what the PC master race is. I think you should do a special unique build in that case again, keep an eye for what Intel, AMD and Nvidea announce in the future, for that special master setup, as overkill as it always was.
As a 3D Draftsman, I would love to see someone make some CAD models for some custom distro plates. Heck, it would be cool if you designed the entire build in 3D. Wouldn't that be insane?

I gotta say, I'm gonna miss Skunkworks. See it looking in the background for the past couple of years became a staple for me. If you do decide to reuse it, I have a suggestion. A build called 'Necropolis' and use a dark grey/black fluid like the graphite fluid shown recently in an LTT video
Other than that, love all the great work, keep on getting at it :D

The case has a nice, simplistic style that would be perfect for an Aliens-vibe hard scifi style setup. It has lots of room for fans that could be backlighted for an airduct kinda look 🤔
Kinda like a small hallway, or different rooms, and each of them is highlighted by backlight, maybe even different backlight.
Looks like my daughter's "healthy" green sludge smoothies. Kale, spinach, carrot juice etc. Tastes as good as it looks :P
Definitely build in it again! I couldn't imagine not seeing this case come to life in a bunch of different ways. It's got too much potential!

As a guy who works on motorcycles and PCs I loved this great maintainance video, use a bit of toothbrush or a very soft paintbrush, rubbing alcohol, some q tips and microfiber cloths. Loved it a lot, as I do this same thing for many things, great video.
You should certainly continue to use that case. It's an absolute legend, and deserves to continue to be used

You should 100% do it. I think it would be cool to have custom vertical and horizontal Distro plates that connect together for clean tubing runs on the vertical plate then you can have all your interconnects and pumps in the horizontal plate.

Im on the cleaning the gpu block part right now and wondering, have you ever considered trying an ultrasonic cleaner? You can even just use pure water in them if worried about what you are cleaning. I would love to see that. Could use it on fittings, blocks, pretty much anything you can think of.
