I remember when I was a kid and our fish were pregnant, my mom would use a pregnancy tank and put the mom inside so when she gave birth, the fry would fall through the bottom half and the mom couldn't eat them. It was so nice to watch the births with my mom. Thank you for sweet memories and posting the video! 🐠🐠🐠
I actually had that the babies fell through to the other fish who were more than happy to munch in them..

Impressive filming! My guppy gave birth to 22 babies but she ate 20 of them.
I have no idea why this mother didn't eat any of the fry, I actually leaved her overnight with the fry.
Novita Listyani, hi! There is reason your guppy didn't eat the fry. After giving birth, the first thing baby guppies do is hide. When they're strong and fast enough, their mom doesn't wanna eat them anymore ☺

Its good that she didn't eat them! In my tank I had to catch the babies and separate them because the bigger guppies were trying to eat them

how do you get those perfect shots? can you share what equipment did you use for this video?
I use two DSLR cameras with two different type of macro lenses. One for real close up the other for wide screen close up.

Use an aquarium with dark background, make sure the lighting is strong enough to hit the subject but not that strong to hit the background (I use LED lights), and then add another lighting from above, you should also expect to do some color grading with the post processing software. Most modern video editing software has such feature.

Wow amazing quality. This video was really cool. My platy fish had babies last month, I'm expecting more quite soon. The first time it was really unexpected, I just saw the fry swimming around one day and had to take everything out of my tank (including decor - everything but gravel!) except the fry to fish them all out and put them in a breeder net so they wouldn't get eaten! It was cool to watch how livebearers are born, and I hope to catch my platy giving birth soon :)
Good luck! Just remember to keep an eye on your female to male ratio. I didn't do that when mine first started having fry and it became uncontrollable quickly, which means I have overcrowding and disease issues now :(
I once had a red molly that gave birth to about 50 fry. I tried to take out the fry so that they wouldn't get eaten by the other fish, but they were so delicate I was afraid to handle them. However it was unnecessary for there were no aggressive species in the aquarium. I remember I didn't change the water for 6 weeks or so. The fry grew to be about a cm long each and all but two survived - not bad all things considered. The aquarium was really quite small so we couldn't keep them. We just informed the folks at the store which sold us aquarium supplies and they came and took away the little fish. In exchange they gave us a beautiful angel fish and a year's supply of daphnia free!
I remember that the day before the mom fish gave birth, she stopped eating and swimming. She would sit on the gravel bottom in one corner of the tank with her belly all distended. I thought she was ill and would die. It never occurred to me that she might be pregnant because no one I knew had ever been able to get their pet fish to breed.
The tiny red fry were indeed a very pleasant surprise!

I also have, not 2, but 3 female guppies which are very close to dropping her fry... I can't wait! One of them seems less round since this morning and for a second I thought she might have dropped her fry and eaten them during the night, but now I might think she changed to more of a box shape.
Glad you think so, thank you for your comment. I left the mothers with the fry overnight after they produce fry, nothing happened :)

I used 5 gallon (about 20 ltr) tank when shooting this video. The babies now live in a 40 gallon tank.

I have a bunch of feeder guppies, (I saved them from becoming prey for other fish by buying them from a pet store) and sometimes they have babies. I have 2 different tail colors, red and yellow, and I'm hoping to get a few males with other tail colors. Usually the babies are born when no one is home, and they can easily escape into the enclosed area of the breeder box.
