60 years ago, my Dad was a commercial fishermen on the Mississippi River. He caught catfish over 100 lbs all the time. My grandfather caught an alligator gar that was 10 feet long.

That's two very impressive catches. Did he mount both? And if you all ate the meat how did that big ass catfish taste being so huge?

    • @Goodellsam
      @Goodellsam 2 роки тому +24

@@cmcgsr3243 dad sold those fish, or we ate it. We were very poor.
The gar was given to Grampa's buddy at the fish market. He had it mounted, and it hung there for many years.
I had told the story grampa told, of catching it, and having to shoot it in the head with a 22, to my wife.
I was visiting my home town, Helena, Arkansas with my wife. We stopped for lunch at the Truck stop in West Helena. After we sat down, I looked up, and there it was, hanging on the wall. I knew it was his!
I asked the waitress if she knew the history of it. She told me her dad did.
She told me he was the owner of the truck stop.
He came and told me, he bought it at an estate auction, of the son of Lonny Lawrence. Lonny was the buddy of my Grandfather.
My Wife, a New Jersey girl, told me she thought I had just been telling her a fish tale, about the 10' gar.
There is no telling how old that fish was. There wasn't much pollution in the river then. Maybe that is the reason.
It destroyed the gill net it was caught in. Fortunately, Grampa made his own nets. He and Dad built wooden boats too. That's a whole different story though.
Old people love telling stories too much.

@@Goodellsam That's amazing. 2 awesome catches. I tell you the old school people had some amazing stories to tell during their time. My grandparents both passed away but I tell you my grandfather told me stories of his service in the navy and fighting in WW2. Stories of him doing things as a boy growing up. *jesus* himself prophesied *Prophet MOHAMED* in bible by title of *upcoming another comforter* and *upcoming prince* of this world in verses mentioned below
*John 14:16* And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you *ANOTHER COMFORTER* that he may abide with you forever
*John 14:25* These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you
*John 14:26* But the *COMFORTER* which is the Holy Ghost whom the father will send in my name he shall teach you all the things and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you
*John 14:30* Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the *PRINCE OF THIS WORLD cometh* and hath nothing in me
*John 15:26* But when the *COMFORTER* is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me
*John 16:7* Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away the *COMFORTER* will not come unto you; but if I depart I will send him unto you
*John 16:8* and when *HE* is come he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment
*John 16:12-13* I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when *HE* the spirit of truth, is come, *HE* will guide you into all truth: for *HE* shall not speak of himself but whatsoever *HE* shall hear, that shall *HE* speak and *HE* will show you things to come. He shall glorify me
      *HENCE ACCEPT ISLAM NOW*
jesus was jew and he was sent by real god for jews guidance only and to complete jews law book only thats why jesus before leaving the earth prophesied about final prophet MOHAMED for all the world
*JOHN 1:11* He came unto his own(jews) and his own(jews) received him not.
*MATTHEW 15:24* i am not being sent but only unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel
*MATTHEW 5:17* Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the LAW OF MOSES or the writings of the prophets(of Jews). No, I came to accomplish their purpose
      *HENCE ACCEPT ISLAM NOW*

They would have started the hole in the ice with the auger. When it gets buried, detach the motor from the auger, attach the next auger section. Drill down, detach, add the next section. It looks like four 4ft sections of auger. If they had a metal stop they could put at ice level they could detach it like normal on the way out but I don't think they intended for this. A metal H is what we use with drilling augers to stop it from dropping back down in the hole. Never seen that many augers drilling for a fishing hole. Must be deep Canada.

I stopped fishing one day when i caught the most fabulous bass. We looked eye to eye. Pulled the hook and set him back.
Never forget that moment. Fishing was everything for me back then. Have not cast a single line since that morning. About 1978. It is hard to explain. I hurt a beautiful thing for sport. Just remembering this still bothers me.
I fished every day before that. Still have enough rods and gear to open a store.
I will kill fish for food. Injuring them for fun is some sort of sin.

    • @alexblaze8878
      @alexblaze8878 2 роки тому +6

Fish don’t feel pain the way humans do. They don’t have the neural physiological component in their brain to feel pain. They respond to injury as a survival mechanism but it’s not the same as having pain receptors.
I’m totally okay with people giving up fishing because they think it’s painful for fish as long as they’re consistent and refrain from eating fish or any animal protein at all.

People were upset as I tried to land it because this was going to take all day and it wrecked their time fishing waiting. Then the bets started. Who could land a fish that big on light line and pole? 27 minutes into my fight the fish is in: 32.7lb Chinook Salmon. I got a lot of Budweisers pushed my way after that!

He was the only guy I have known who would also get arrested while fishing. He would do this by fishing in areas that were of controversy (half of a popular fishing spot got blocked off (near a dam outlet) for "security" he would simply stand in front of the gate while fishing I witnessed him get hauled away for this

The award for the most humorous use of a burned-out refrigerator is...
Seals and sea lions are two different animals, not just two names for the same creature. I wish these video makers would get it together on that.

Am i the only person who absolutely admires the beauty of a sturgeon? They are my favorite fish and i hope to catch one eventually. It just sucks they are protected where i live.

@@ryantrott4802 ive heard those stories as well. Here in mississippi, at one point, it was a sportsmans paradise. We seen everything go extinct or become endagered to the point we are constantly reintroducing predators to make it how it used to be. With that being said id only catch one to simoly take a picture of and quickly release. Its a respect thing in a sense that i want to see its beauty in person, and feel the fight it gives to catch. Man id love to even see one swimming around in person.

Be thankful they’re protected. It is for a reason. Extinction is a permanent thing.

@@teeanahera8949 oh i deffinetly am. Like i said mississippi had multiple species go extince and since ive been alive only 1 endangered species has become more common and thats the black bear. 5 years ago there was around 50 sightings and now there has been well over 300 in this half of 2023 alone. Other than that the sturgeons numbers still seem low, but promising. They've also started attempting to revive an extinct species known as the red wolf.

Was on a deep sea fishing trip once and a guy next to me hooked into a Wolf Fish. The deckhand took the fish off the hook and proceeded to hold the fish’s mouth in front of a 2x4 that was overhanging the wheel house from the upper deck…. The Wolf Fish snapped down with a sickening crunch! There he stayed for the rest of the trip!
