    Dear Mateusz:
    Although it is tempting to call Endler’s livebearers “guppies,” the Endler’s livebearer (Poecilia wingei) is a separate species from the guppy (Poecilia reticulata). Endler’s can be crossed with guppies, but this dilutes the gene pool. Avid hobbyists often want to maintain pure strains.
    I bred fancy guppies for three decades. I switched to Endler’s, because they are less inbred and don’t require a heater. I prefer to keep a tank heavily planted and my livebearers well-fed, so that most, healthy fry survive. Sickly and deformed fry may be devoured, which is less heartbreaking than “culling.”
    Thank you for sharing the signs that a female livebearer is ready to drop fry. You did a terrific job, on this, informative video and I truly appreciate your, camera work.
    All my best,
    Sincerely,
    E. J. Brinegar

      Hello,
      Yes, I know and you are correct. I was thinking a lot about how should I address this fact in the video. The problem is that a lot of people are mixing those two and guppy name is MUCH more popular those days even though it's not correct. Even ALL my stores in my area have wrong labels saying: Endler Guppy, Fancy Guppy etc.
      Anyway I went with general term Guppy, so it could reach more people that are looking for "Guppies" even if they have Endlers. Maybe it was a mistake? But I feel that this topic maybe needs to be addressed in separate video.
      Thank you for (as always) excellent comment.

    I’ve bought 6 guppies in the beginning of November, now I have the 3-rd generation already😂 Had to buy a smaller tank for young generation, but some were left in the tank where they were born and they survived.

    I have an endler-only tank, so these days I just let the female give birth in the tank! The other endlers never try to eat them so now I have too many babies lol. However, they DO show interesting behavior when they notice one of their own being isolated. They become extremely confused by the separation!

    • @AquascapingCube
      @AquascapingCube  9 місяців тому +2

      True :) In general there are good chances that lots of young will survive. Especially in case of smaller "natural endlers", bigger fancy guppies have more chances to eat their fry just because of the size.

    Is it absolutely necessary to keep the newborn babies in a separate tank? I don't know much about guppies. I just added a breeding pair of them inside my cherry shrimp tank yesterday.

    • @Cn_Tower

      I don’t know much about guppies either but my guppies were still able to produce healthy babies without a separate tank. There will just be less of them

    • @AquascapingCube
      @AquascapingCube  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi, not it's not necessary. You will just have much more young ones if you separate them. Otherwise they might get eaten by bigger fish.

      Endlers and wild guppies leave their fry alone as long as they have enough space to feel comfortable. Fancy guppies have comparably smooth brains and are more likely to eat them.

    • @sweetINFINITY369
      @sweetINFINITY369 21 день тому

      I think if you don't like to separate them try putting some live plants or coral stones so the fry has a hiding place where they can stay.😊

      Update :
      My female laid about 20-30 babies. I had a crazy reaction . After 1 month, I put the fries with the bigger guppies again. Somehow only 14 survived till adulthood. I have no idea where others went.
      This is my first experience handling them. I think I did good.

      You can just leave them in the tank, and they will live with other fish. Or just give them away to other fish enthusiasts (this is what I do in most cases).

      Yes, but almost all of them will have this dark spot. Pregnant ones just have it bigger and darker.
