  • When you get new fence panels in you will need to paint them to protect them. Since i know brushing can take some time i thought i'd test out the Wagner 570 Universal Sprayer. Lets see if this tool beats the brush.

    Brilliant video. My wife suggested I get a sprayer and being set in my ways I wasn’t too interested. I watched your video and changed my mind straight away. I’ve now done three coats of my garden fence in less than a day. I think it would have taken me 3 weekends to do it by brush!

    I spray panels outdoor regularly as a side business. I use this exact machine. But try using the larger 1.3L container and nozzle as the paint dissipates far better. And covers significantly better. The 800ml one is dreadful! Plus the benefit of the 1.3 holding more so less refilling

    I use painters tarps to cover bushes, ground, etc... They are pretty inexpensive and are reusable. And cardboard makes a great shield. I have a couple of bigger pieces from a TV box. I also use them to set things on when I'm using a spray can to paint things. They make a red one gallon paint can top with a spout to help pour directly into the sprayer bottle too...

    When you set your fan pattern vertically, you shouldn’t spray in an up and down ( vertical ) movement otherwise you will dump far too much paint in a small area. The fencing paint is far more forgiving than other paint or you will definitely run in some kind of trouble . 😀

    I'm here in the US and I have the Wagner Flexio 590, when I paint with it I'm not covered with paint and the sprayer isn't either. I'm thinking you have the spray power adjusted too high for the material you sprayed and maybe you were a little too close to the fence. If this was your first time using this, it is understandable as you learn and get better with it. To anyone thinking of getting one, it is a time saver and worth the money, however, don't think you can just buy it, take it out of the box and start spraying. You need to get some cardboard boxes or newspaper and practice spraying with it and the material you plan to spray. Play with the settings and learn which settings give you the best result for the paint you are using. I would say take about 30 mins to do this and you will get good results.

    I recommend using a section of cardboard cut from a moving box using 2 of its sides so there is a straight fold in it. You flop it over the top of the fence panel so that part is behind the fence while you are holding the other half up. With your other hand cut in the top of that section of fence and move along until you've cut as much as you want to paint at a time. You can then use the same cardboard scooted up to the base of the fence to cut in the bottom. This means no masking and no overspray into your neighbors yard provided there aren't gaps between pickets.

    A good first go. Good on you. A couple of tips to help others and you next time. Always move your spray at right angles to your fan pattern. i.e. Vertical pattern means horizontal motion and vice versa. This builds your paint evenly across the job, reducing runs.
    Consider buying a spray shield. It's a metal panel on a stick that can be adjusted and used to stop overspray across the top. (Especially when you get the unit replaced and have a spare hand.) Kept clean with a rag, a shield can be often used to mask straight edges with a bit of practice. You could also use cardboard for this, or there's even a stick that clips a cardboard shield in, which is handy for fences.

    Many thanks for this great tutorial. For myself, I think I would still use a brush when painting the top 6' to 9" of the panels, so that I don't get any over spray into next doors garden. How did you get on with your neighbour, didn't the overspray get on he's grass, that paint comes out in a large amount. Also what setting of pressure did you have it on, could you slow it down much to reduce the over spray issue

    The wagner flexio is awesome. I have the 590 which has a dial to adjust the fan speed from 1-10. So let's talk about results. I painted an entire brick house with it in under 6 hours. I mean it would have taken 2 days to do with brushes and rollers. I liked it so much I decided to bring it indoor. I painted my entire basement and our living room with vaulted ceilings. This thing is awesome. Just clean it and take care of it. If it starts shooting globs adjust the fan speed up and volume of paint down. The results it delivers are amazing too. A very smooth finish. I usually do 2-3 fine coats with it. I have an upcoming fence staining. In the video he didint really describe thing correctly. The bigger nozzle and container is for paints. The smaller is for thinner stains. I assume he was using a stain and not a paint. If it was paint then he should have been using the larger nozzle and container which would have avoided having to thin it out and hold more paint.

      @Beau Artson - I'm glad you mentioned about the bigger nozzle with bigger container, as I just bought a Flexio 590 and was disappointed at how small (800ml) the container was for the 'wood' applicator. I thought surely fence paint being like an emulsion would be compatible with the interior walls applicator, now your comment has give me the confidence to use it. Thank you!

    • @beauar1
      @beauar1 3 роки тому +1

      @@Jay-Vee there are two containers and nozzles. I have never used the small container which is supposed to be for fine jobs and for thin stains. I painted an entire house inside and brick on the outside. Masonry paint is thick and heavy and it worked well on highest fan setting. I stained about 200 feet of fence with it as well using only the larger nozzle and container. I just turned down fan to about half and adjusted thr amount of stain coming out. Worked great. The small fine detail sprayer would probably be better for painting cabinets of something. I just haven't found a use for it. The 590 flexio really works well. I have done a ton of projects with it and everyone has turned out great. Dont be scared to use it inside. Just make sure you mask off everything really well. I did 20 foot walls with it in no time. Prepping takes longer than painting. I just with the cleanup of the sprayer when your done was easier.

    theres two version of that 570 sprayer. the one i have has a thumb switch to turn the motor on and off. you need the one with the thumb switch, this is really important if you are doing jobs for customers!
    the one shown here spools up the motor as you press the trigger, so at first its releasing paint while the motor isnt at full speed so you will get blotches and splatter or globs of material coming out the nozzle and the same (but a bit less) when you release your finger off the trigger.
    if your doing a paint finish for a client this will cause you a steady constant nightmare as you keep having to fix splatters on surfaces.

      I got the wagner one mate £115 pays itself off on the first job tue amount of time you save. Although it cannot be adjusted a great deal with fence painting so you habe to move a lot faster. Well worth the investment mate (y)
