Wagner Flexio 590 VS HomeRight Super Finish Max | Paint Sprayer Comparison, Review, and How-To

  • In this video, I compare 2 paint sprayers, the Wagner Flexio 590 vs. the HomeRight Super Finish Max. I have owned both of these paint sprayers for quite some time now so I thought I would throw together a detailed comparison and an overall guide for each sprayer. We cover the setup of both paint sprayers, including all the parts, and then we spray two end-tables and compare the results.
    I think the HomeRight is a great paint sprayer for beginners, but the Wagner is great for speed and efficiency, which can be super important when looking to get work finished quickly. Watch the video to see each sprayer's process.

    Control and repeatability are key with any paint project. I do not recommend pouring unused paint back into the original container as you are now mixing thinned with thick paint to produce a somewhat thinned paint. Once you find out what dilution works, stick with it. Keep the thinned paint in a separate container and then you can thin more to always have the same dilution. Granted as the original paint ages it will get thicker and require more thinning, but for a specific project you can control the process from start to finish and then readjust with the next project. Thanks for the comparison.

    Don't know if its been mentioned but to help with the spitting at the start of spraying on the wagner pull the trigger in slightly to kick in the turbine then after 3 or 4 seconds pull the trigger in fully to release the paint.....I found this helps.
    Also diluting the paint is key to a good finish.... its just trial and error but I was diluting up to 50%

    I have a bungalow with a pebble-dash finish that needs painting. - virtually impossible with a roller or brush. Can I use the Wagner for masonry paint and will it stand up to painting outside walls?
    Also would I need to water down the paint? I was looking at airless sprayers and they seem too complicated for my needs - especially priming and cleaning and wotnot.
    Too much hassle. But the Wagner seems brilliant. Great informative video by the way.

  • @nobbystyles4807
    @nobbystyles4807 2 роки тому +1

    both of these sprayers suffer from the same problem which is that neither have a thumb switch to activate the motor. on these machines when you press the trigger it will do two things (activate the motor and allow the paint to flow at the same time). when you press the trigger it will take time for the motor to spin up and the paint that comes through during that time will be at a much lower velocity than it needs to be causing all sorts of splatter problems.
    with separate controls you can have the motor at full speed with the paint flow off, and then when you trigger the paint flow it will be coming out at full speed.
    almost no one talks about this but its absolutely vital if you want to actually get any amount of work done without going back to fix mistakes! the previous version of the wagner flexio had the thumb switch for the motor, i have done hundreds of hours of emulsion work with it and i wont use any other sprayer.

    I bought the Homeright. It has a lot of overspray, mediocre finish, and is a royal pain to clean. If you let the paint get too low in the container, it spits globs of paint. I'm a novice and need to paint entire walls and ceilings in a new house quickly. Would the homeright be better than the wagner for that? I'm also debating just using an 18" roller...

    • @kirkbrown2147
      @kirkbrown2147 2 роки тому

      I'm still waiting for mines from Amazon but I've own a small gun like this before. My personal advise is to just use the gun to do corners, trims and door but use a roller for doing big areas. It will be too much stopping and going to refill the small cup to do big area. I was thinking if the gun would work without the cup, if it does many you could make a custom hose and run it directly from the paint can.

    • @Phrancis5

      @@kirkbrown2147 Thanks, that all makes sense, but ultimately, my wife convinced me to just throw enough money at the problem and have painters do the whole house. I still might get a cheap sprayer for small diy projects.

      @@Phrancis5 Smart choice. I primed a small 7’x13’ room with the home right and it was a lot work climbing a ladder to get to the top of the wall as you need to be around 12 inch’s away from the area that needs to be painted. Also having to refill the container was a pain. I ended up rolling the paint on with an 18 inch roller it was a lot less work.

    How do you determine if you’ll use a brush to paint vs one of these?

    • @reluminopraha5948
      @reluminopraha5948 2 роки тому +1

      A brush should be better for the penetration and/or adhesion. Thus when painting a not too large outside fence (or porous material), brush could be the best. Or the roller if you care about the surface or paint speed.
      But! Whenever you wish to have a perfect final surface quality then there is usually no other option then spraying. Ie. all inside doors, their frames. Furniture. Car or motorcycle parts... Anytime when you paint a larger flat surface spraying is probably preferable as any imperfections are visible.
      Though, there are certain laquers (eg. shellac) or paints where you can get a perfect result even with some brushing or rolling technology. It has been used originally in the past. You may need to arrange the surface eg. horizontally in order to let the paint to flow to a flat surface. Basically, it is a process or technology which is not easily repeatable. You may need to experiment with the laquer, brush type and style. It will slow you down.
      Eg. my inside doors and frames are sprayed but the window frames were brushed and/or rolled. Both by the professionals.

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  2 роки тому

      yes you can, some paints will require more watering than others. Add 10% water, if not enough add another 10%... I have added anywhere from 20-30% water to my thick paints while spraying before.

    I noticed you sprayed primer from a can instead of through the spray gun. Does primer not work well in the sprayers?
    Also can you use waterborne alkyd paint in these sprayers is thinned or would you get orange peel look?
    Thank you

    • @rooboy99
      @rooboy99 2 роки тому

      I have the wagner. U can use primer but some primers, like zinsser bullseye 123, are a lot thicker so will need more water. He probably used the spray can for convenience. Some of the alkyd paints I've seen don't give any instructions on thinning with water so would only look at brands that give these instructions on the tin.

    So how does that width lever work?

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  2 роки тому

      I believe the width you are talking about is controlled with the flow dial on the homeright, so more paint, and a wider spray. The Wagner you can't really control the width, you can try increasing the amount of paint but I find it really comes out based on the thickness of the product. You can use the other nozzle on the wagner and it controls the width, you just move the red piece back and fourth.

    • @morninggoode9617
      @morninggoode9617 2 роки тому

      @@FurnitureFlippa Thanks. Theoretically when the spray is made wider, the coating will be thinner if the volume stays the same. So it does make sense to turn up the flow in order to set it wider.

    I don't like the idea that if I am spraying up then need to spray down ... I have to take off the paint jar and turn the tube. You would think it would have a weighted tube so it would do that for you. Come on Wagner and others think about what your making. LOL Wondering if the dirty filter on the Wagner is cutting down the flow. It sure looks weak on the spraying. He should have poured the leftover paint right into the other sprayer. Would have not been a different mix as he thinned it again and that could have made the paint flow better. He also shouldn't be pouring paint down the drain. Wash them outside. Other than that....... Great video for info.
