Hey pops I’m glad that you enjoyed our country. We’re one of the most hospitable people in the world. Not to mention our beautiful smile. Hope you come back with Josh and the family.
I 100% agree. I went to teach about people with disabilities and the caring reception to the information I shared was really remarkable! I told the folks there I have rarely experienced that kind of response.
I'm so late in subscribing. I didn't realize you created your own channel. I've been following Josh for quite a bit now. I'm Filipino so I'm so happy to see this Philippine trip!
Thanks for the great video! Headed to Palawan and Sinait, Ilocos Sur in March of 2025. First trip and going with a friend to visit her family and to do some fun activities in Palawan. Will be there for a month. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
I'm so glad you liked Amorsolo's paintings! He's been my favorite Filipino painter for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, before I even knew his name, I would often come across his paintings online, and I'd see so many other artworks clearly inspired by his style. I've always admired the way he beautifully captured the Philippine countryside and culture-his use of vibrant colors and the way he depicted native Filipinos in everyday life is truly remarkable. His art really brings the essence of the Philippines to life! Also at 9:16 that would be sisig, traditionally it consist of pig face and pork belly but through the years people have came with new versions like milkfish sisig, beef sisig, tofu sisig, etc. And at 9:26, that would be sinigang na pakwan(watermelon sinigang) sinigang is a soup or stew characterized by its sour and savory taste, and there are different type of sinigang like pork, sinigang, beef sinigang, fish sinigang, etc. And watermelon in a sinigang is very uncommon and alot of filipinos would find the idea of putting a watermelon in sinigang to be completely repulsive. It's probably that restaurant's specialty.
Thank you so very much for this comment! My whole visit I was given lots of different and delicious local food to the point of being overwhelmed in a very positive way, but couldn’t remember the names of anything I ate! Hahaha! Yeah the restaurant’s line was “traditional food with a modern twist” so I guess that was what was up with the watermelon in the sinigang na pakwan. And yes the fine arts museum was a real highlight as was Amorsolo’s work. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Avid follower of you and Josh!! Omg!! We should have met and asked for autograph and toured you around. Looks like you had a great time! Wow, I can’t believe. I’ve watched your Colorado and route 66 episodes several times!! You said this is your 3rd time here? Wow! I hope the humidity didn’t bother too much. Watching now this episode and it’s always fun any episode you make! Huge fan and God bless you and your family 🙏🏻❤️
I would really enjoy a more in depth video on Jose Rizal! Manila is much larger than I imagined! I'm loving the history and modern culture of it all! When you bit into that leg I was thinking, that was one big chicken!
The more I study Rizal the more fascinating he is. Have also finished what are probably his two most famous novels which are in some ways autobiographical. Thx for watching! That was a BIG chicken leg. Hahaha!
Like your discussion on art & history. BTW, my husband has always made hot dog spaghetti. He has to do it when I’m out of town (I shudder at the thought of eating this). He was happy to see it at Jollibee’s.
Hahaha that’s funny! I make fried chicken because my wife doesn’t like it. Glad you enjoyed the art and history. I’m beginning to learn that that is what I enjoy best in doing these videos. Thx for the encouragement!
Really enjoyed this video! Congratulations on your channel. When you and Josh make it back to Manila, I may be able to take you around too as thank you for so many of your videos I have enjoyed through the pandemic and even now. I am waiting for your other Manila videos.
Loving the pops content. Cant get enough of the through my lens world of content. Love seeing you guys whether solo or together taking us on your trips. Best wishes from a fan in Edinburgh, Scotland
I really enjoyed this video. For me this was an introduction to such an interesting city. Thank you for introducing me to Amorsolo. I can definitely understand your comparison to Wyeth. Looking forward to more on the art museum. The Basilica built of steel was fascinating. The cemetery was beautiful.
I’m so glad! Manila is truly a fascinating place. It really is a mix of old and new. Yeah more on the fine art museum to come. I love seeing art in different cultures from my own. Particularly interesting. It would be hard to overstate how impressive that cemetery is. There are mosaics which document all the major battles of the pacific theater.
I got teased by my friends but I had to try it at least once. I’d go back or stop at one in the US. Thx again for watching. It’s always nice to see a long time friendly “face!”
@ you know I’ll always be ready for the next video! Even though they teased you, deep down your friends knew that trying it is probably a rite of passage lol
⭐️ I love your commentaries. Everything was spot on. Well-researched… anyone who likes flat white from Toby’s Estate must be someone with finer tastes. 😊
We Filipinos like to put gravy on our fried chicken. Jollibee always serve it as a condiment in the Philippines and some US locations, but KFC always charges it as a side dish.
Hahaha! I saw that gravy came with it but didn’t understand what was for. My friends finally told me but I guess I’m too much of a fried chicken by itself fan. Funny that KFC the American chicken place charges.
The pasig river is actually already revitalized. It's not the cleanest and still has pollution issues. But if you look at how it used to look like 20 years ago, you'd be amazed at how different it is now. It was declared biologically dead before, but not now since you'll see fishes swimming there now. Before, you'd barely see anything but trash and the smell of rotting animals and feces. Now, there's arguably no scent at all unless there's a storm or heavy rains.
That wide street with acacia trees on the sidewalk is the posh gated community of Forbes Park. An elite residential area for Filipino rich neighbors. You forgot to highlight the Entertainment City which seats the Okada Manila which is one of the best casino resorts in the area of that entertainment city in Paranaque in Manila.
I only knew of the one in El Monte. Agreed on the local cuisine. I was actually there for 10 days and did a lot of that but only had the two days to sightsee and that was where I was taken. I did want to try Jolibee.
@@popshiking ahh there are quite a lot of Jollibee around now in case you do want to try more or see how it is different, I have never been to Philippines so wouldn't have any idea how the real deal taste.
You can actually take a video of the Manila-American cemetery but not for commercial purposes, but even if you upload it in youtube, there have been many people who have done that, you can just be discreet about it though like during recording.
I hear you. But I’ve traveled a variety of places particularly Native American lands where they make the request for no video so I just try to follow their requests out of respect as I appreciate the opportunity to visit those places.
Great video! Really cool to see what you did there!
It always means a lot when you comment!!
Salamat!!!!so inspiring!!!!! 🙌🏽🙏🏿🙏😇
So glad you enjoyed it!

Enjoyed this video! Love it and your trips with your son.
Thx so much! We have a good time.
I love your epic Route 66 road trip with your son. Glad to see you have your own channel. Do keep up the great content.
Thx so much! Yeah Rt 66 really got Josh going outside of California which had
been his base at the start.

Good stuff Pop’s😎
Thx and thx for watching!
Fascinating video! I learned a lot! I’ve seen Jollibee around where I live but never tried before. Your food looked really good

Ooops wait. That isn’t percent. It’s Arabika. Fun fact, their logo isn’t even a percentage sign but coffee cherries on a branch.
Hahaha I didn’t know that! Yes their arabica coffee was excellent.
Thanks Pops for trying and liking Jollibee❤😊
I was surprised how good it was. Ended up going there twice while I was there for the 10 days total.
@popshiking woooowww🤩sooo proud of you Pops!🎉👏
ty for travel in phillipine
The Philippines is an amazing place and I’ve loved the people I’ve met there!
Hope you are able to add more on the art museum.
I’ll plan on that. Was a wonderful museum! The building itself has a significant history before it became the fine art museum.

Yeah it was a rich area. Thanks for the info about the entertainment spot.
😊😊😊
Thx for stopping by!
The name of the coffee shop is Arabica not percent. The % is not a percent but actually a representation of two coffee beans on a coffee branch.
Cool idea to use that % for the beans logo as so memorable.
amazing video but would of been cooler, to eat more local style food and drinks. Pops, how have you not been to Joli they are all over socal now.
I only knew of the one in El Monte. Agreed on the local cuisine. I was actually there for 10 days and did a lot of that but only had the two days to sightsee and that was where I was taken. I did want to try Jolibee.

I have an idea for a drinking game. Every time he says "absolutely", take a drink! But watch out!! You will die. 🙄
That’s not the only word! Hahaha!
