Phillipines the only South East Asian country with a huge Spanish influences from religion, food, customs, names and language. It is still evident to this very day. Amazing!!!
People often disregard how Hispanized the Philippines is. So many aspects of Filipino culture have been directly influenced by the Spanish. It is truly the only Asian-Hispanic culture.
My American husband enjoyed our 2-hour tour at the walled City of Intramuros especially the are of the Intramuros where General Douglas McArthur’s headquarters used to stand. Next time we have our vacation again in the Philippines, we will have this tour again but on the other landmarks.
The Spanish Legacy still live in many aspects in filipino Culture Tradition and custom also Tagalog contains almost 75 percent Latin even filipino Surnames integrated with American First name like Jayson de la Cruz Evidence of Colonial influence over the Archipelago
The narrator is a very handsome typical brown-skinned Filipino look. I never thought how indeed European the vibe is inside the monastery of San Agustin Church in Intramuros Manila. Aside from the Galleon Trade between Mexico and the Philippines, Miguel Lopez de Legazpi was the first Governor of Manila. Although he is from Spain, he was the epitome symbol of how closely -related Mexico and the Philippines in many aspects of their lives. For me it's not either La Salle or Ateneo is the premiere Catholic School in Manila, it's still for me the University of Santo Tomas ( UST) is the most royal and premiere school in Manila and the entire Philippines.
I live in Mexico in reality Mexico and Philippines are way different that u can think of. Similarities are pretty basic just like how Filipinos are the same with Italians and Indians.
@@crunchychocorollas a Filipino travelling Southeast Asia (thank you ASEAN for visa-free border crossings!). I can confirm, only the Vietnamese look "different", but not by much.

Makati is not part of the capital city where Manila city's intramuros district stood, but it is part of the capital region which we call Metro Manila region or the NCR
@@johnpaolobas1036 Fact is Manila is already a collective term in an international context. Just like how Manileños refer to Metro Cebu as just Cebu. Even people in the provinces will tell you that pa-Maynila sila when pertaining to trips to any parts of the Metro. Both titles are correct depending on who uses it & context.
The old Makati was part of the "Hacienda Pedro". The old name of Makati was "San Pedro de Macati". It was administratively part of Santa Ana, Manila during the Spanish era.
@@jboycaceres2871 yah the old but the new one is an independent city with a different mayor so basically saying Makati is not part of the capital city
You should have visited the more preserved spanish colonial city of Vigan up north. Vigan differs from Intramuros because of its preserved spanish structures saved from WW2. bombardment. For this reason it is designated as the only UNESCO heritage city in the Philippines. Intramuros was flattened during world war 2 and the only remaininch structure standing was San Agustin Church. Saludos! Viva Hispanidad!
Why not give a space or structure to a spanish language school like the Instituto Cervantes in Intrmuros? By the way, why have the Intramuros Administration not relocated those informal settlers or squatters? Or improve those squatter areas inside intramuros? Definitely, they are eyesores for a historical place and a premiere tourist spot like Intramuros!
If there is one thing that you should learn about travelling to manila, public transportation is a nightmare. It will be best to hire a van transport if you want to get around manila.
My ancestor Migual Lopez de Legazpi built this walled fort he also named the Philippines the Philippines in 1564 the last Conquistador we are Basque not Spanish we brought the Catholic religion to the area there's even a town named after our family Legazpia in the Philippines also in Spain thank you for bringing history to life 😅
The reason philippines has no solid aesthetics identity because of this colonialism influence. Now filipino people having hard time what to embrace, majority are embracing American culture.. but if were to ask i prefer spanish style.
@E-portal9479 i disagree kahit kubo lang, we can connect it to modern architecture, what i am talking about is the aesthetics, like the bamboo airport we have recently, kahit ganun sana designs majority ng mga structure natin dito, not pale concrete. But i understand because we accept practicality rather than aesthetic nowadays
@@E-portal9479 actually po meron talaga tayong filipino aesthetic noon even before the spanish. The Tondo and Manila Kingdoms had a rich culture back then similar to Malaysia and Indonesia. Maharlika nga dapat tawag sa pilipinas eh. Di nyo po ba alam?

East Timor is also Hispanic in Asia
Like what Jokoy said, "We are the Latinos of Asia!"
I learned more the history of the Philippines in 23 minutes than in school. Great editing and video!
