    Whatever. Slap on a stage 1 vance and hines and "too quiet" and under powered" are no longer an issue. This bike is awesome. Picked up a 2016 the other day and couldn't be happier. Turns heads, sounds mean, and the rumble from the stage one air filter/vance & hines short shots is incredible.

      +Ryan G Hey man can you post or Email me a video of the 2016 with Vance & Hines on it? I want to hear how it sounds. I'm thinking about buying the bike but wanna make sure the aftermarket exhaust will beef it up.

    All valid points and not all negative for sure. One thing anyone into their Harleys knows is there is such a thing a the 'Harley Tax'. These bikes are delivered leaned out and underpowered for their capacity and indeed the engines's capability. They absolutely need a set of open pipes, and lots of air into the engine, with a tuner such as a dynojet. Then, and only then, can they wake up and perform how they should.
    Sure they're not sports bikes, they're basically a nearly 60 year old design and the current engine (the evo) has been around since the 1980's. What they have is build quality, masses of customisation options, usable real world power on real roads (not tracks) and loads of charm for those who like a more raw riding experience. This is something Harley do better than anyone else.
    The sportster isn't s cruiser, it's a roadster, originally Harleys answer to the Bonneville, their big 1680cc bruiser bikes are cruisers, the sportser doesn't try to fit that mold. It's a subtle but important difference.
    Anyway, a good and refreshingly honest review.

    Love my Iron 883, had it since 2016 from new, put on a rear seat that looks great, put on screamin eagle pipes and a grill on headlamp...did have to drop the mirrors below bars so I could see behind me but looks better like that, runs like a dream, enough power away from lights and enough top end for me, gorgeous looking bike people always come over and start talking to me about it when ever I park it anywhere...love my 883 Iron :D

    i'm a big harley fan and mainly because its styling is beautiful. However having ridden a number of cruisers, one of the other thing which sets the Harleys above is the quality of materials. Everything is solid and does not feel cheap.
    Its not meant to be the purest form of motorcycle and as long as you don''t have to ride it every day, its an absolute joy.

      I would love to ride it every day. When winter comes around I try to make a trip even then. It kinda reminds me of the old west and a good horse. I find it reliable and I have yet to have any problem with being left behind. She will do 90 or a 100 with the best of them and will have more throttle to boot. I had clicked on my new GPS and found out it had stored information of what I did and one was a 90 mph which I didn't realize I had done. I have not kept it for looks in these mountains but have put all kinds of storage to carry what I "might" need in these mountains. I have saddle bags, windshield, top box, gps, LED fog lights, LED headlight, chaps for those cold days, snack bag, tool bag with air compressor, first aid, rain gear, 4 cups of water, two 16 oz drink holders... did I forget anything? Oh yea, I have 6 emergency strobe lights your selection of pattern.

    The good news is that 90-plus horsepower is easy and inexpensive to obtain with a few parts swaps. This is -- hands down -- the best looking motorcycle H-D has built in decades.

      It is primarily done with a jug, piston, and cam replacement. S&S makes one of the most popular kits and it only costs about a Grand or so.

      That Bike with the S&S-kit will have 78HP and about 69 lb-ft of Torque.

      The 1250 kit makes 100 horsepower:

      That's what most are doing who want to kit an 883. Find one in good shape that's a few years old and you end up with a better bike for a reasonable price. Good luck.

    I guess everybody has it's own personal opinion, because in my case i believe this is one of the best Bikes out there, plus if you feel that it doesn't have enough power than that's not an issue with this Bike, since there's so many options in the market to modify this Bike...The Harley Davidson Sportster-iron 883 is one Bad ass Bike...Period...

    So is the 750 really faster than the 883?

  • @Majorvideonut2
    @Majorvideonut2 6 років тому

    I have a 2006 883 and what I found out was the number 5 gear is like an overdrive in a car. If you want to pass another vehicle on a two lane road you have to do the same thing a car does... shift down and it will crank up the revs and you'll get what you get in a auto with a automatic transmission.

    Exactly. -What's the point of that. Really enjoying the straight forward details on these bikes, unafraid to hurt feelings with the truth. While these changes appear all positive, it seems to me to be on a bike I would never even consider buying due to all the short comings like power, capacity, lean angle, range.

    • @PaulieTheDude
      @PaulieTheDude 6 років тому +1

      Test ride it - simple. Allthough most probably this advice won't apply to you any longer(the comment is 2 yrs old)however for all the readers - just test-ride the motorcycle first. One thing though - most of shortcommings of this bike are the subject of so-called "Harley Tax" and the good news is that you can get rid of them(underpowered engine or quiet pipes). All in all - the choice is yours but give it a try. If it will hit your sweet spot, then you'll be a happy man. If not then - well - at least you'll know it is not for you. I've test-riden it, got in love with it and I'm now a VERY happy man.

    Very honest review, my ol 96 ,883 had stage 1 filter an screamin eagle slash cuts, it was comfortable at 75 on motorway, it would cruise 80-85 if needed. . But its not a race rep, they are heavy with average brakes, but soo much character. .
    The bike equivalent of an old 60's mustang. .
    U gotta be ready for one

      I bought an 2018 Iron, the brakes and suspension have been improved. I have 4 bikes in the garage and I prefer to hop on the Iron over the other 3 bikes for day to day local riding.

    if you're talking peak power numbers on a Harley you're missing the point. not just harleys but cruisers in general. Every harley ive ever ridden has more than enough torque for the given model and horse power is somewhere between enough and who cares. cruisers are feel good bikes
