    This is hella useful for doing narration while you're recording video game footage... Now does my narration HAVE to be on top? Or can it below the audio from the game?
    I'm using OBS studio and I think I could set my microphone to be audio track 2 and the game audio track 3

      Hi! If you have several clips that you want to use audio ducking on, just go into the dynamics panel and make sure the send button is checked on in each track. Then any track that has the listen button select it will automatically duck under all of the tracks that have the send button on.

    This NO LONGER WORKS in DaVinci Resolve 18!!! I set the vocal levels properly as per your other tutorials (Volume/EQ/Compression). For the Vocal track I have Compressor on, Sidechain: Send. For the Music trrack I have Compressor on, Sidechain: Listen. NOTHING CHANGES. Music track doesn't lower when vocal plays. Please help. What other setting must be changed in version 18 for it to work. I've been at this for over an hour and rewatched your video several times. :/
    UPDATE: Problem solved!!! On the Music track the Compressor was on, but the Dynamics switch was OFF. So I switched the Dynamics ON and it works! YAY! Left this here in case anyone else had this issue.

    I guess this technique is fine for the uninitiated… But there’s not a true audio engineer or musician who would allow the program to automatically do ducking. So easy to do it by yourself and so much more accurate. And it does seem a bit convoluted anyways. I’ll stick to manual… But all your videos are very good… I just find this one to be… Well I wouldn’t use it.

      Hi Allen! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with you, it's a great tool for quick stuff and I use it on my UA-cam videos, but it's certainly more accurate and you have more control if you do it manually. Guess it depends on the situation and what your edit will be used for. Thanks for checking out my videos and being a part of the community! 😁👍

    Awesome stuff my friend. I do drum videos and started getting into tutorials where I play/explain. Tried holding an SM57 in between examples, muting it in the DAW... so much time! A buddy of mine told me how he uses a Lav mic (ordered a Rode Lavalier GO tonight) that'll plug directly into my ATEM mini pro ISO which automatically creates a DaVinci project file of all 4 cameras plus up to 2 audio, all in sync. So this was a big help in getting my head around it! If you get a minute, check out my latest video on the drum fills Neil Peart did on YYZ and you'll see me fumbling with it. BTW, I'm using your multicam tricks in these videos as well as I just got a 16gb M1, so thanx for that too!!

If I'm not talking, just playing, I can have a complete video done in 10-15 minutes after recording the drums.

So how do I make NEW compression adjustments to another portion of my video without it effecting the previous section of compression? Does that make sense??? I've not spent much time in Fairlight as yet and all my ducking has been via keyframes. Keyframes have worked well because I ease the volume down before talking starts and back up when it's finished. I'm not sure how the ease-in would work with your method.
    The other thing I'm going to have to look at is how a plethora of small clips are handled by one long music clip. Most of my videos are critiques of other videos, so I'll have a small clip from the video I'm critiquing followed by my critique - which then returns to another clip from the video I'm critiquing. If I can find a way to make that work, it would be a major time saver.
    Just tried it - it works.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 роки тому

      Hi and thank you for checking out my video! Using audio ducking works exactly how you just said the key frames work. You can ease in and ease out using the attack, hold, and release options in the dynamics window under compressor. In the video I show how the release button eases back into the normal audio volume for the music. You just have to work with those three settings and find out what works best for your style of video. But it saves you a lot of time from manually key framing everything. Best of luck with it!

    • @peterpoop7760
      @peterpoop7760 4 роки тому +1

      @@JasonYadlovski
      The thing to watch out for is that this method sets the tone for the entire track. All the clips on that track will have the same ducking applied to it. This means that you have to be careful of easing in and out with particular attention to fade transitions and your threshold.
      To demarcate sections of my videos, I often put a 1 second blank between them. I could imagine the ease-out from the first clip bringing the music back up only for the ease-in to the second clip to bring it back down again, causing an unwanted blip. I'm sure I'll find a way around it by judicious juggling of the threshold.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 роки тому

      Hey Peter - yea it does apply to the entire track. You can over come the easing by using the hold and release options. Just make it longer (higher number). I've used the this technique on many videos without any problems. You can always have multiple tracks set to send the signal for ducking if that helps. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it! Hopefully you can find a way that it works well for you. 👍

    Question: Is there a good way to use this for a podcast interview with multiple audio tracks? (Currently working in DR 17.4)
    I recorded a session with an interviewer and two interviewees. The best set up I could build with my current equipment was to wire them with 3 lav mics and run them all into a Zoom H6. The audio quality is good enough for now and each voice is on a different channel and track. Only problem is that when a person is quiet, their lav picks up the other people speaking, creating an echo effect. Is this method of audio ducking my best plan for taking that out or do I need to keyframe the entire piece?
    Thanks!

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Gary! So I would use a the gate for this, but not the auto ducking feature. I'd try and see if you can set the gate threshold to activate the gate while the other people are talking but not while the main speaker on that track is talking. Once you find that DB level, play with the hold and release to make it sounds more natural and not so abrupt. Let me know how you make out!
