Dude, it's more and more complicated to find quality content on UA-cam (raw and efficient information shared by passionate people, like in the beginning of UA-cam) the majority of content creators come to make blabla to fit the formats and frameworks imposed by UA-cam, but you, I don't know, you manage to combine everything, the guidelines of your channel, the tips you give in each video, everything is always right on target, hats off! I always appreciate your videos but just wanted to drop a quick note today to praise your general approach to making them. Your humble, focused, no-nonsense style is very refreshing. No petty begging for likes or awkward interruptions. The content is always on point. No gimmicks. Just excellent tips and education that is clear, practical and useful! I hope you can find a way to make this work for you in the long run, so you can keep putting these out for all of us. Great stuff Chadwick!
You made my morning. I really appreciate these kind words more than you know. My posting frequency is dropping over the next couple months because I'm actually in the middle of a move across the country, but have every intention to keep teaching more regularly as soon as I'm settled. I don't know the Fairlight page too well and this was the perfect video. Here are my notes: - Ctrl/CMD drag to stack stereo (Extra: D enables/disables tracks; works everywhere) - Chadwick's hat kind of reminds me of McDonalds - Shift + 7 -> Fairlight Page; Shift + 4 -> Edit Page - Index -> Tracks allows for renaming, controlling, hiding, and reordering audio tracks - Fairlight -> Timeline view options -> You can turn on video tracks o0 (you can also view the gain) - Edit Selection Tool - you can duck a range on a track using that easily (with automatic keyframes); you need to select the top track of the clip - You can use the Arrow Selection tool when max-zoomed in to smooth the audio waveform (and get rid of pops or other sudden noises); Right Click -> Reset Edited samples to undo everything - Option + CMD + Mouse Scroll/Alt + Ctrl + Mouse Scroll will zoom in audio waveforms but not the timeline (only on the Fairlight page) - Chadwick's hat says "NY" and the red is not McDonalds red; that one is solved at least o0 - Layered Audio Editing - like a composite clip for audio; Enable with Timeline -> Layered Audio Editing; To view them, View -> Show Audio Track Layers; You can color, reorder them; Only the topmost layer will be audible - Easily Normalize Audio (Chadwick has a full video on that, so go watch that); Timeline -> Bounce Mix to New Track -> Select New Track; Solo the new track and Right Click -> Analyze audio levels; You can further Normalize using ITU-R 1770-4 (the latest/greatest) to a -14 LKFS and -1 dBTP (for YT)

I never give thumbs up to UA-cam videos, but this one was packed with extremely useful content. Loudness normalization is one of the main reasons I'm switching to Resolve (I have to manually monitor and adjust in Premiere). Thank you for all the great tips!

Dude your video just made my day. I'm pretty new to fairlight, editing my first proper project at the moment. The points you made in this one video were literally just what I needed. Cheers 🍻
Great to hear. I've found it very capable, the biggest thing I'd love to see added is to side chain 3rd party plugins - but that's a minor use case for most editors.
Hi Chadwick, Following my comments below I have just tried Audacity which is free and the latest version did a pretty good job of normalising the mix to -0.9 and -14LUFS. Shame Davinci cant do the same.
The main thing is that Fairlight won't do any compression or limiting without you telling it to do so. This is why you can't pull the level up as easily. There is a paid plugin from waves that can be added to your output bus in Resolve if you would like this functionality without going out to Audacity. But yeah I'm with you and would love to have a limter/normalize function combined as an option.
@@CreativeVideoTips I completely agree as I am not at all sure why on earth they even put a normaliser especially one that does not seem to do anything. I will look at the Waves one as I do have a few of their plugins.
I need to know more about this layered audio editing like can I but all my sound effects on one layer and still have them mixing this literally could be a game changer for my editing

hey there - thank you! I have a simple question: I had a look in many manuals and videos, but I couldn't find a good explanation on the little tool, in fairlight, in the menu that is looking like scissors. - Chadwick's hat kind of reminds me of McDonalds
- Shift + 7 -> Fairlight Page; Shift + 4 -> Edit Page
- Index -> Tracks allows for renaming, controlling, hiding, and reordering audio tracks
- Fairlight -> Timeline view options -> You can turn on video tracks o0 (you can also view the gain)
- Edit Selection Tool - you can duck a range on a track using that easily (with automatic keyframes); you need to select the top track of the clip
- You can use the Arrow Selection tool when max-zoomed in to smooth the audio waveform (and get rid of pops or other sudden noises); Right Click -> Reset Edited samples to undo everything
- Option + CMD + Mouse Scroll/Alt + Ctrl + Mouse Scroll will zoom in audio waveforms but not the timeline (only on the Fairlight page)
- Chadwick's hat says "NY" and the red is not McDonalds red; that one is solved at least o0
- Layered Audio Editing - like a composite clip for audio; Enable with Timeline -> Layered Audio Editing; To view them, View -> Show Audio Track Layers; You can color, reorder them; Only the topmost layer will be audible
- Easily Normalize Audio (Chadwick has a full video on that, so go watch that); Timeline -> Bounce Mix to New Track -> Select New Track; Solo the new track and Right Click -> Analyze audio levels; You can further Normalize using ITU-R 1770-4 (the latest/greatest) to a -14 LKFS and -1 dBTP (for YT)

Thanks Arnab! Which one do you think is the most helpful or new to you? I might try to repurpose one as a UA-cam short.
Thank you for an amazing video. Please can you do a tutorial on bouncing of tracks and clips especially with the timeline effects. Thanks in advance
This is another great video from you. I'm going to save it in my "stuff I need folder" so I can refer back to it. Thanks. 👍👍
Glad it was helpful! Hey I'm not going to lie, sometimes I need to refer to my old notes myself on how to do certain things in this program. Thanks for watching.
These are great tips, thank you. I'm a believer that good audio makes for a great video, sadly it's the last thing some people consider when they're finalizing their videos. Fairlight is such a powerful tool and needs more great tips and tutorials for content creators.
Hello from Malaysia. Thank you for the helpful tips, dude. Really appreciate it. I'm transitioning from Pro Tools as my main audio post solution and the learning curve is a bit steep. These types of videos really helps me get through it easier. Looking forward to more contents from you.

hey there - thank you! I have a simple question: I had a look in many manuals and videos, but I couldn't find a good explanation on the little tool, in fairlight, in the menu that is looking like scissors. Just aside the range selection tool. It is not simply for cutting, right? So what exactly does it do and for what could i use it??? It is really the last little tool in DVR, that I dont understand. Thank you for any explanation!
Discovered your channel on Jacques Crafford page. These tips are awesome.
