I literally subscribed a week ago and turned the notifications on only to see that this channel was dead. I'm so happy it's not, because I binged all of your videos immediately and couldn't stop laughing, and then rewatched most of them. One of the funniest channels I've ever come across.
I’m surprised these videos aren’t more popular and they are definitely fun to watch but I have to rewind and watch the move sets like 6 times before they even begin to stick or often make sense since they are on screen for such a small amount of time. Fun but hard to genuinely use for study without skipping back more than is enjoyable

As someone who understands what prophilaxis means and that it is actually Greek not Latin, I feel obliged to inform you that I am the one who is smarter. (es joek pls don't kill me) This vid brought back a lot of memories, the French was the first thing I was taugh when I stated as a 5yo and I'd roll other kids with it till it stopped working eventually.
"...and you're going to win unless you suffered from chronic lead poisoning at an early age." This guy is right up there with MoistCrit1kal with his metaphors.
Yeah, great explanatory vid. The French Defense is a fantastic opening for players of all levels, and I freely admit that. You can choose to play both sharp and positional lines. Even still, I won’t touch it in tournament play. And I rarely play it online. I think that the most challenging variation is the Advance Variation. That’s what I typically go for as white. But in order to understand why I think that, you need to understand something very important about attacking the opposing king. Well, actually, you need to understand a few things. Well, first of all, in any given chess position, you should generally attack where you’re strongest. And where you’re strongest is determined largely by the pawns. In the classic Advance French Defense structure, white has pawns on e5, d4, and c3. There’s also a pawn on b2, so you get the connect 4, and Eric Rosen squeals in delight somewhere. For black, there are pawns on e6, d5, and c4. So if one were to divide the board in half, they might say that white has more space, and is therefore stronger on the kingside. Conversely, one might say that black is stronger on the queenside. So if you had to guess, where should white attack? Well, on the kingside, of course. And conversely, black should attack and try to create a passed pawn on the queenside. So off the bat, white has a ready made attack on black’s king. And everyone’s least favorite position to be in, even for grandmasters, is in a position where you have to stave off an attack on your king. The people who are perfectly fine with staving off checkmate are what I like to call “psychopaths.” But how do you know that you’ll have to keep checkmate at bay? Why can’t black simply castle the other way? If you thought that, your head is in the right place. When I attack my opponent’s king, I like to know his address. In other words, I like to know where he, the king, is staying. And with the French Defense, we can infer from the pawn structure that he’s probably not moving to the queenside. If black has pushed all his/her pawns, there is imminent action on that side of the board and an opening up of the position. It’s kind of like voluntarily moving to the bad part of town that’s basically a war zone. A gang of Crips is going to come by and shoot the place up sooner or later. Okay, so he’s not moving to the queenside. But what about staying in the center. Isn’t that viable? Why not? The center is locked. How can white possibly break in? Well, besides the simple plan of f4-f5, ripping open the center, white can simply leave it locked, and black just has no breathing room. White should be winning both in the center and on the kingside. Winning in two out of three places on the board is very good, is it not? So if black has any hope of playing, he/she has to be the one to open up and undermine white’s center with moves like f6. But if your king is in the center, do you want to open things up? Probably not. So the queenside is like moving to the hood, while the center is like the beach front property that’ll be underwater in a few years time. So due to the nature of the opening, we can infer that the king with be moving to the kingside. Therefore, you can make plans to immediately mobilize towards that side of the board. The plan I like is Qd2-f4-g4, Re1 and then potentially a rook lift to e3, Nd2-f1-g3-h5, h4-h5-h6 potentially, Be2-d1-c2, and you can see how the bishops are already hungrily eying the kingside, the knights are ready to jump in at a moment’s notice, and the queen stands proudly lording over the position. Even the kingside rook can come into the attack. You can see how that can become very menacing for black to deal with. And because you can infer that the king is going kingside from the start, you can start this plan of mobilizing an attack early on, and there’s very little black can do about it. Because of white’s central and kingside spatial advantage, there is simply more maneuvering space. How does black prevent that without severely weakening his kingside? Another thing you have to know and look out for when you’re on the hunt for your opponent’s king is certain patterns. That’s how you can smell blood in the water. When we study the games of great attacking players, we often see the same patterns show up again and again. I’ve stressed in the past how a knight on f3 is a great defender of white’s king, as is a knight on f6 for black’s king. I’ve even given lectures on that subject. Well, with the move 3. e5, white immediately prevents black from using that square for his knight. So that should immediately alert you, as white, that there’s something a bit fishy about black’s king. Maybe you can poke and prod at the king a little bit. But also, another pattern you should notice is that black’s play seems very clustered on the queenside. Usually there’s a queen on b6, a knight on c6 (that can go into b3), a rather useless bishop on c8, and a rook on a8. So that’s quite a clustering of pieces on the queenside that, due to a lack of central space, are hard to maneuver and reroute if needed. So, you can notice those kinds of patterns in the position. Less kingside space, no f6 knight, pieces clustered away from the king, all of this and more should be an indicator of a strong kingside attack for white. If you grew up in the Midwest, like I did (about an hour from St. Louis), maybe you’re used to tornadoes. And sometimes, you’ll get these telltale signs that there’s an incoming tornado. Maybe there’s changing direction in the wind that happens frequently. Maybe you see dirt and leaves being picked up and swirled around in cyclones. Maybe you see what’s called a “supercell.” Or maybe you just checked your phone. The point is, there are patterns you can look out for that often indicate that a massive storm is coming, and the same applies for hurricanes, as well. The same is true at the chess board. And an ability to sense those patterns can help you develop an attacker’s nose. For me, the French Defense just has all the telltale signs of an incoming storm, and while I think it can be a great opening (especially if you can figure out how to take care of the French bishop), it’s just not for me. Once you get to a certain level, your opponents start to get really good at applying pressure in the correct ways. So the real question becomes whether or not you think you can withstand the pressure. I just don’t trust myself enough to do that. I’d prefer to just play my favorite Sicilian Defense and try for an aggressive game. At least then I know I can fight for an advantage with active play and not hang mate. P.S. If you are below 1400, STOP PLAYING THE SICILIAN. I know I mentioned it’s my favorite, and I’m sorry, but them’s the brakes. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you will get steamrolled. Don’t just play it because all the top players do. Try a Caro-Kann. Try a French. Try e5, for Christ sake. Be principled. At least learn how to develop your pieces well before playing an opening where you have to work harder to develop your pieces. The Sicilian, while great, doesn’t do much to open up your bishops, so it is harder to develop. Don’t play it below 1400, and if you are 1400, treat it with caution, but by all means, proceed forward with it.
Man you need to write more tags to make holy youtube recommend more your videos. You will be drown in visits then :) **Whispering** The world deserves it. Et sérieusement votre vidéo est très bonne
Good question. The good news is 5. Bb5 is far from the best move, which means people who play it rarely know what they're doing. Play Qb6. If they take the knight (people who play this usually will), recapture with the pawn and then play Ba6, preventing them from castling (This is great for black). If they play a4, unpin the knight with Bd7. If they take the knight, recapture with the pawn, not the bishop.
I’m a little confused tho. At 2:00 the last move played was pawn to b4. The queen is already at b6 and the knight is at e7. But at 2:14 when the rook goes to b1 he moves the queen away. Even tho the positions are exactly the same from the 2 standpoints. If they decide not to stupidly push the pawn should black just make a waiting move like h6? Oop after 5. Minutes of clicking between both buttons I just realized white castles lol.
at this point chess is a game with only 2 characters, white or black. White is more offensive while black... Black is the type of guy to just say. ”Ok i like your point but, Counter arguement. French defense”

DAMN I MISSED YOUR VIDEOS, WELCOME BACK MAN!!
Are we not going to talk about what was in the search bar at 3:47?
I started to play the french again. Played four games, all of my opponents played the exchange. Now I´m back to sicilian :)
Since I don't play french as black, as white I play the exchange, less theory to know about
White white I’ve played the exchange many times, and on four separate occasions my opponent just resigned
I hate playing the exchange, so I opt for Qxd5 and get a more Scandinavian looking position instead
Only a true chad doesn't acknowledge the Winawer, cheers
Wow you ressurected
