Thank you so much for this video. I'm just getting back into chess after a more than 30 year hiatus, and videos like this are really helping me to familiarise myself with modern opening variations - - plus I like attacking style chess. :) In my very next game after watching this video, I had the opportunity to play this variation, and won a nice game: 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Nf6 5.Nxf6+ gxf6 6.g3 Nc6 7.c3 b6 8.Bg2 Bb7 9.b4 Qd7 10.b5 Na5 11.Nf3 O-O-O 12.a4 Rg8 13.O-O h5 14.Nh4 Be7 15.Qxh5 Bd6 16.d5 e5 17.Nf3 Rh8 18.Bh3 Rxh5 19.Bxd7+ Kxd7 20.Be3 Bxd5

Actually, the first example position You gave in 5:45 is terrible because of Ba6 forcing the trade of our most valuable attacker. If white sets up a queen and bishop battery like that You either don't castle at all and eventually Your king ends up on d7, unless You can solve the issue tactically with Nb4. I've been using the Rozman French for over a year now, with great success, but once in an OTB tournament I missed the battery, didn't play Nb5 and the position went from much better for black to slightly better for white immediately. That's one of the things You need to watch out for.
Now matter what some people may say, Levy has a rare gift for giving a good overview over an opening. This may encourage more people to play, because if you consult the encyclopedias you easily feel totally overwhelmed and exhausted if you try to study these endless analyses and information. How do the supergm´s actually digest all this information? I know they play and play and play, but come on, besides very good heads they must also have something up the sleeve that makes it easier for them to learn. I simply can´t believe that someone like Hikaru plays on for 36 hours before taking a break. They say that training for 6 hours per day is insane, so what is 36 hours in a row then? Totally crazy in most people´s view. This may be a silly question, but has our beloved Mr. Levy made videos on endgames about how to checkmate with knight and bishop? And with queen against rook? We chess-spasspeople who despite all odds want to master these nuances of the endgame would like if Levy could make as userfriendly videos as possible on these themes. Man he could become popular. :)

levy you are the best chess teacher ever quick, fast, and logical. You didn't start your channel would have never reached what i am now. Good luck on your next VIDEO! :)
What I would consider good against the french defense advanced variation is to play c5 c4 ignoring the center pawn continued with a6 a4 Bb4 Bd2 Nc6 Nf3 Bd7 later on Qc7 Long castles Queenside and then b5 axb5 axb5 b4 and b3 hampering in both of whites bishops and then g5 h5 h4 and then f5 f4 later on and then reposition the king side knight to g6 the queen side knight to c7 and put the rooks on b7 and a6 to help block off any attack on the queenside and then later on reposition the light squared bishop to e4 and the queenside knight sacrifices on f5 and then you get a massive pawn storm against the white king . If played carefully with a repositioning of the Queen to f5 to help guard the kingside pawns then this attack could be strong with maybe ideas of Rh7 and Nf4 maybe even Rah6 this could be very good for black
Rozman-French, best French. This helps those of us that do not have the time to master all the theory, but we need a practical approach. This is it. Thank you.
What I like about your content is you show both sides without getting your ego involved. I have been noticing other gm’s tend to show their content with blunders on the other side. They try to hide the best moves from the other side. I could be not seeing something, as I’m far from your level of competition. Thanks for your considerable effort and support. It’s definitely appreciated.
I'm glad I found your channel. Very good work! I dunno why you turned off comments on the salty GM but you are a quality gentleman for not naming the jerk. You never know what may have been happening to him at the time.
I can’t believe NO ONE went bishop c4 after All the opening plus Nc3; it’s literally the best move to refute this opening not allowing the queen to have that active square at the center of the board
So back when I was like 1200-1400 I premoved the first 3 moves of the exchange french every game as black because it was reasonably safe to do so. For like 500-1000 games, I'm not even sure, too many. Gave it up for the pirc (lmao) and finally changed to the caro kann, largely because of your two pawn sac line. If I get to sac two pawns and the position's reasonable, I'm ~IN~. I win a ton of games with that two pawn sac endgame, it's amazing, I love it. I'm not going to start playing the french again but the doubled f pawn to get rid of the g pawns is an idea I like a lot for a lot of openings, I'll actually get that kind of structure on the queenside in the french, blackmar diemer, and indian game, as white. Nimzo Indian too because I play Bd3 instead of f3. Most times these days my opponents don't force me into it, but the king is actually really safe in the middle of the board behind that little shield, if you can touch both your pawns and your pieces defend, get your rooks in. French players know to keep the king in the middle sometimes, I'm sure in some positions in the Rozman French Ke7 is a great move. If it wasn't for the fact I like the white side of the french enough that I call the french positionally losing on move 2, I would pick up this variation lol. Love the ideas. But white can play differently and I think white should play the advance, personally. Black playing the nimzo, french, or Indian, I like the white side of the advance french structure a TON, and please, give me the doubled pawn structure from the rozman lmao: lichess.org/Bsdd5mhO0x9M lichess.org/jc9UPpu4oWOM lichess.org/q2x8jEe30ztR It's good at attacking both sides of the board, and you can put your king on either side if you need to. Also g pawns are bad and I'd rather not have one!
I know you're excited by this variation but gxf6 isn't a new idea, IM Andrew Martin has a video on youtube he made in 2013 where he advocates for this variation... it's known and has been played. I mean, it hasn't been named so if you wanna coin it the Rozman defense I think the world would be okay with it, just know that it's not technically a new idea. If you become a super strong advocate for it maybe it makes sense at that point to name it the Rozman defense. Very cool idea though, especially since you can reach the position so easily. And it's still awesome and inspiring to see you beat a super GM like Anish with a sideline such as this.
Please, Levy, do more videos about the French Defense( I play Always if i can the Rubinstein, Just because of you, i didn't know It before) And some more theory about the Rozman, it's Just so much fun to play!
I always play Bd7 after Nc6. Most of the time your opponent plays Bb5 and will have Nf3 played and that my friend opens up the line: Nxe5! Yep, a free pawn. If NxN you have BxB and if BxB, you have NxB back. I am speaking of when you were talking about if they advanced at 2:15 in
I knew that idea which I am popularizing, it is Morozevich variation in Winawer gxf6 Be7 and then instead of b6 (it creates wholes on c6 and a6) a6 and b5 (grabbing a bit of space) and then Bb7. That is very agressive very effective and you will have fun. I am 2200 now. Askham Chess is a channel for novice level. You should definitely switch ti Ginger GM if you are taking chess seriously.
I was confused, but only because I couldn’t hear any sarcasm in Levy’s voice when he said “I don’t have a UA-cam channel.” When using sarcasm, it is important to drag out your words and use a deadpanned voice.
Bro I played this and my opponent play Bh6 and I didn’t realize that he was threatening Bg7. Just in case you get that your pawn isn’t hanging if you play Rg8 because after Bxa7 because you have Rook back to h8 and f5 and the bishop is trapped
i play only french with black and i lost many many games because of my knight wants to go to f5. Prefore i have to say, that the most people with white using the advance variations (so in my rating). it makes sense, it feels natural to be aggressive in chess; i dont know much about knight c3, it confused me, and in my rating its rarely played. People use more exchange variation, or, what i said, at most the advance. So, my problem is, after i dominating the queen side, i had to push out my knight off the king side, and after e7, i have a problem. i lost so many games with the black french, and i cant fix it. So, after i played knight to f5, i must have in mind, that white can allways push the white g pawn to attack it directly. and then my knight has nowhere to go, except going back. Afetrwards (or before wihtout knowing what to do) my position collapsing instant by whites attack. I played so many games, but until date, i cant fix it.
I'm quite new to the game of chess and right now the french defence is my go to opening when plaiyng black. Did you think i should stick with it or you suggest a different opening? I've tried some games with the Caro-Kann but i did'nt like it that much.
Love the French. Only started recently but I think I win more games with black than white. Sure it confuses all the 800s i play against. Got to brush up on my London! Too many mistakes but I get something different every time so going to persevere.

White should play Nf3, g3, Bg2, Be3 and castle long, maybe!?
I was confused, but only because I couldn’t hear any sarcasm in Levy’s voice when he said “I don’t have a UA-cam channel.” When using sarcasm, it is important to drag out your words and use a deadpanned voice.
Great play and analysis by Levy , best chess channel out there .
Yo this levy is so much more relaxed
seems like a great way to spicy up the French, thanks!
I learnt so much from this thank you Levy! x
Hey Levi, I ve been winning a lot with your vampire gambit, thanks a lot for the videos :)
So what happens if you dont trade knights? Guessing not commiting for this opening?
the anish joke was way over the top. Give that guy a medal! LOL!
I liked the alternate even after cringing as a French enthusiast to ruin the pawn structure. :)
39:15 it's was the coffee dude. Ur teaching chess stuff what players/learners/kids should not be getting for free, appreciate that ..
Good line
I'm just interested how to deal with Qf3 which makes us delay b6. Bd7 to protect Nc6 or what?
Bro I played this and my opponent play Bh6 and I didn’t realize that he was threatening Bg7. Just in case you get that your pawn isn’t hanging if you play Rg8 because after Bxa7 because you have Rook back to h8 and f5 and the bishop is trapped
Thanks for showing the live best you tube channel
Why do you not play tournaments in resent
i play only french with black and i lost many many games because of my knight wants to go to f5.
LEVY PLAYED THIS IN AN ACTUAL TOURNAMENT GAME AAAAAAAAAAA
That wooden king was epic
Thanks! It was a lot of fun to make... and Levy definitely deserves it! I have other cool things I make on my website if you want to check it out.
Love the French. Only started recently but I think I win more games with black than white. Sure it confuses all the 800s i play against. Got to brush up on my London! Too many mistakes but I get something different every time so going to persevere.
Hey levy I'm struggling against the advance French please make a video on that
