I saw them with this lineup at the old Cleveland coliseum and boy what a show. I couldn't believe Steve could hold those notes on Winds of March that long live. But he did.
I beg to differ Steve Perry is the Stevie nicks of Journey If you listen to their first 3 albums they are heavy, driving but melodic. With ferret face they became a Jefferson starship Syrup dispenser. All the labels where pushing for love ballads, and Journey felt they needed to do it too be relevant.
No one cared about Journey before Steve Perry. Just like Fleetwood mac with Nicks and Buckingham. Except with Journey everything with Rollins was phenomenal. Every note of every album. After Rollins left it was good but went much more pop.
@williamhugo6359 - I like Aynsley, but he was an original, from their prog-rock days. I was too young, and not "cultured" enough 😉, for prog-rock. When I moved out to California, I was introduced to Journey, and those first 3 albums, along with Genesis' "And then there were three...", were really the only cassette tapes, that were in my Walkman, on a regular basis.
@williamjoyal: Greg Rollie Sure did Rock!! It's a shame How Jealous Steve Perry was of Gregg Singing in Journey songs, and eventually got rid of Greg being in The Band. For me, they were doing Great with Gregg Rolie in that band, and had The Best Journey Lineup and Songs, with him in it, and would have continued to Stardom Anyways!! I also Really enjoyed His Voice (He also had a Good One) and Singing, What a Shame!!👎👎👎
Can you imagine what journey would have put out with Greeg in the 80s? It would be very different and awesome im sure! However, i dont know if they would ever have got as popular. Have you seen the Journey through Time videos from 2019 with gregg on his hammond and Deeno singing? Niw thats a killer concert!
@@mchavez219 Greg was tired of touring and wanted to start a family. Not saying that their might not of been some ego there, butGreg left of his own accord.
The sheer talent on that stage is incredible. While I love Steve Perry's voice and the power he brings to the overall delivery, having two vocalists with different voice ranges and qualities makes the band's music more interesting. And Gregg could really jam on the piano (no offense to Jonathan Cain, who wrote or cowrote many of Journey's later hits). It's nice to see the joy on the band's faces while performing- young and having fun.
I saw this version of Journey at the Neil Blaisdel Center Arena, Honolulu, Hawaii 1978. Fun fact The Baby's with Jonathan Cain and Tom Waite were the opening act. Fantastic show.
They should of went with that magical style of Rollie & Perry for more of the tunes. It’s like Rollie’s voice so soothing and the bam 💥 Perry brings it home 🏡…. SO dam SWEET
Not to mention Ringo's All Starr Band. At one time that seemed like a joke to me, but they're actually a pretty damn good band now with Rolie, Luke, and Bissonette.
I'm so grateful to see Journey on the Midnight Special. It was a real treat to hear Rolie sing. He has a beautiful voice. I love his deep vocals. I believe that he should of sang more. His voice is a treat to your ears. Rolie and Steve compliment each other well in this song. It just sounds beautiful.
I always preferred the Journey line up with Gregg Rollie over Jonathan Cain. Nothing against Jonathan, but it seemed like they were a little edgier with Greg. Discovered Greg when he did lead vocals for Black Magic Woman for Carlos Santana. THanks again!!
This is my favorite era of Journey. Absolutely dig Greg Rolie. Its just awful to see how they are now. Publicly squabbling over money as if they aren't rich enough.
I got to see these guys in June of 1979. They were good. It was years later after seeing many many bands that I realized how good they were. They weren't good, they were GREAT!
I wish they had kept this line-up. Perry & Rolie could've been like Sam & Dave, The Righteous Brothers, Kendricks and Ruffin. It was such a good balance of voices and approach.
Journeys best hybrid song! Absolutely the best... I was working as a lifeguard in the midwest at 18 and teaching swim lessons to children of a 27 y.o. woman married to a cop. I'm still alive but wow the times we had! Me on a Kawasaki Widowmaker... She had a red Trans Am, she often took off her top when we drove around Greenwood, he worked nights and somehow we got to go to the Journey concert in Bloomington, In. Time of my life! Well, I was lucky. I had alot of those back then, and still do! 😂
A local event last summer had as the closing act a Journey tribute band. I saw the set list before they started, this song and 'Feeling That Way' weren't on it, so I left.
@@WerewolfLuna952 I do prefer the first three albums after splintering off of Santana. Still had a very driving melodic sound. My favorite Journey vocalist. Also the coolest version of the band, I never really warmed up to Perry or Smith. Greg and Aynsley were the reason I listened.
This is when Journey was Journey.
No doubt this is the best lineup Journey ever had !!! Greg Rolie and Steve Perry ❤️💜
I feel just the same way
I saw them with this lineup at the old Cleveland coliseum and boy what a show. I couldn't believe Steve could hold those notes on Winds of March that long live. But he did.
Do not forget the other dude from Santana's lineup ;)

This was Journey's best lineup. I wish Gregg Rolie never left the band.
Don't look now but Schon is actively working to bring him back.
@@Illinois_SteveUnlike the other guys in the band, he didn't sign away his publishing. That might be the big sticking point.
I DONT THINK SO. AND THIS SONG IS SO STUPID.

Excellent song excellent era wished Gregg rolie stayed in journey definitely agree and best lineup journey
Rollie/Perry one of the best vocals tandem of all time!
Yes!!
To this day, hands down, my favorite version of Journey!
Agreed. My 15th and 16th years for this lineup. Perry/Schon/Rolie/Valory/S.Smith. Infinity/Evolution/Departure/Captured, those are MY albums.
What about Ansley Dunbar?@@johndanielsforJesus

Don’t know why they didn’t collaborate more …. Awesome sounding like in this song 🎶 together

The classic Journey lineup and by far the best!!

It don’t get no better than this! THE best lineup.
Neil's solo still puts me in tears! He gave us melodius hard rock soloing. Evolution and Infinity are essential to pop hard rock
One of my favorites of all time (I have a lot of them)!
I still get goosebumps when I hear Steve Perry's voice 🖤💙🖤💙🖤
This is my favorite era of Journey. Absolutely dig Greg Rolie. Its just awful to see how they are now. Publicly squabbling over money as if they aren't rich enough.
I haven't paid attention to them since the Infinity album. Everything after that is crap.

So handsome, Greg and Steve!
Awesome! Just totally Awesome!!!
That whole album was great. We used to listen to it driving down to Myrtle Beach when I was in my teeens.
