👏👏👏👏. Saying thank you is not enough for bringing the Midnight Special here to UA-cam 🤗🤗
You bet!
@@themidnightspecialtvshow Yeah 🤗
The midnight Special had some awesome bands and artists.
They should have a million Subs by now but I'm sure they will eventually..Thanks to Mr.Sugarman and his crew..
Rock On Peeps!! 😹😂😹
🎸🥁🎹
@@themidnightspecialtvshowfrom the online community who finds it important for media to be shared, THANK YOU! These performances are great and important for people to see.
The soundtrack of our youth.
My favorite Journey..Perry and Rolie on vocals together! Perfect
only the best
Absolutely correct.
My favorite lineup of Journey!! Love it! Aynsley Dunbar on drums!!
I got to see this lineup at the Youngstown Agora. 👍
I'm so glad to see the Midnight special in full length on youtube. Back when music was magic
I used to stay up late on the weekend and prop my little B & W TV on my lap and plug my headphones into the mono earphone jack through an adapter/splitter and JAM to The Midnight Special and Wolfman. Absolutely COULD NOT wait for it, didn't matter who was on!! THANK YOU Midnight Special!
Without Santana, there could be no Journey.
I always like to hear "Anytime" after this "Feeling That Way" - and sure enough - this channel posted both songs!
You can tell that Journey played these two songs live, one right after the other, the same way they appeared on the album, and also the same way the best classic rock stations would play them together on Twofer Tuesday.
Thank you, Midnight Special, for posting both of these classic tracks!
Saw them twice in ‘77, ‘78. This lineup was Journey!
Just excellent. I was in college when this first aired. It really was "must see (and hear) TV." I am so thankful these were preserved and shared again with us. How can 50 years have passed???
Tell me about it. I was in high school. Midnight Special is like the soundtrack of my youth. Cheers
The best TV show of the 70s is here, I love this performance. History is there alive again.
Classic Journey!!!! I LOVE this lineup! But Neal's 'fro!!!!! 😂😂
I saw Journey in concert back in the day. They sold out tickets in 45 minutes for the three shows they scheduled. Steve Perry-Nothing but one of the best voices in music history.
Neal Schon's solo is so beautiful.
I was just about to say something about Neil's solo in this song and you nailed it!!! ✌️
@@shannon5373 It is 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Neil Schon is beautiful ❣️❣️❣️
@@user-xg3jz6zm7o Agreed.
This is by far Journey's best lineup ever!!!❤️
Journey, Styx, Foreigner ❤ the soundtrack of my life. Riding around with my friends, going to house parties and falling in love for the first time.
I remember watching this " Midnight Special" at home when I was just 13 years old. Steve Perry , " The Voice" in his early days with "Journey."
Aynsley Dunbar on drums. A rock legend in his own right. Departed from Journey later that year 1978.
✨⚡️🥁⭐️
played with a bunch of acts. david bowie, frank zappa, jefferson starship, played on the 1987 whitesnake album. great drummer.
I think Ansley joined Starship.
@@c.holland6068 Jefferson Starship.
@@thevoid99Whenever this subject arises, people categorically show their biases by failing to mention John Mayall.
@@MisterBeauJanGelsnils Lofgren debut solo album 😂❤
At that moment, for me, it was Journey, Foreigner, Toto. What a time to be 16. 😅
Journey at this point was:
Steve Perry - Lead vocals
Neal Schon - electric, acoustic guitars, backing vocals
Gregg Rolie - Keyboards/Piano, co-lead vocals
Ross Valory - bass guitar/backing vocals
Aynsley Dunbar - drums, percussion
Love all Journey but the Gregg Rolie era will always be my favorite
Seeing Gregg and Neal on stage together is everything
omg my favourite Journey's song, thank u very much this show was THE show back there
Infinity and Evolution were never given the true love they deserved. Don't get me wrong, I love Frontiers and Raised on Radio. But these two albums with both Steve and Gregg were phenomenal.
Dont forget departure
Escape!
Infinity was the record that changed everything… complete opposite of Next.. I played Infinity until the grooves wore out…
This is real 🎶. I love it 💗
Best version of Journey!
Too bad they didn't stick together!
The sound of Steve Perry and Greg Rollie together was legendary and powerfully beautiful! Only the Eagles vocals are equal to this!
There is no equal to Journey...there's only Journey.
I was there! It was ALL Steve Perry.
The Midnight Special, And Mr. Burt Sugarman, Thank you!! Say hey, to Mary!
Gregg Rolie FTW!!
This channel is a blessing for those of us born in the 90's etc. THANK YOU !!
It's always nice to see songs when they're show casing another voice in the band. He has a really nice voice.
One of the greatest bands to ever grace the stage... And they're still cranking it out today!!
Happy Wednesday... thank you for sharing! 💖
Gregg Rollie, the keyboardist doing much of the singing came from Santana.
The first couple of Journey albums had quite a few songs he and Perry traded vocals on.
Too bad management forced Rollie out because THEY wanted Perry to sing ALL the songs.
Check out "Wheel in the Sky"!
@@rdalev1he was the lead vocalist on the first 3 albums, singing on all but the 2 songs Neal sang and 3 songs with no vocals.
The year I was born. I love this.
Now this is more like it!
What a great band!!
I was working the 3rd shift al of the years that The Midnight Special was on, and I seldom got to watch it.
🙏🤗🍺cheers
Steve Perry totally rocked the Midnight Special, facts🎉🎉
Steve Perry is so hot looking
Best tune ❤🎉
You need to make a single clip out of "Feeling That Way" and this!
Absolutely! They should never be played separately.
That's precisely the sequence I just did on my playlist dedicated to the Perry / Rolie years, if you want to check it out (keeping the official video of _Feeling That Way_ with its audio from the album, though): ua-cam.com/video/vg5vziU-qIs/v-deo.html
Same with Queens
"We will rock you" and "We are the Champions"
I'm sure there's others too. Imo.
Rock on peeps!!🎸🥁🎹✌🏼
I would like Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' From 1979 please.
Journey pre Steve era albums are works of art and a different kind of beast. Steve joined and their musical direction changed. And while I do love the 1st 3 albums with Steve, it’s not the same. The lineup here has some incredible musicians making some great music.
That guy singing the intro gives Steve Perry a run for his money.
That's Journey's original lead vocalist, Gregg Rolie
"That guy" is Gregg Rolie! One of the most underrated singers and keyboard players in all of rock! Ever heard of a song called "Black Magic Woman" by Santana? That was him singing!
Fun Fact:This was the Steve Perry's First TV television debut.
I was bummed a little when I saw Journey in 79 because Aynsley had left the band by then. Steve Smith is a great drummer though & I was happy to hear him. Never did get to see Aynsley live.
It’s so sad that Rollie left the band. He and Steve were such complimentary singers. Jonathon Cain is a very good keyboard guy but Rollie was perfecto in Journey.
I used to watch this show every week back in the day ,Thank you so much for bringing it to you tube...This is awesome!!!!
Glad you enjoy it!
@@themidnightspecialtvshow I sure do.
The Voice
THE voice.
I don’t think people understand the talent to start a song with 3 part harmony’s on key without any instruments to work off of , I had the fortune to have such a band for nearly 10 years and we could mail this song , sadly I haven’t has such a band like that since !
Keep ‘em coming MNS !
Gregg is playing a bit of piano to keep everyone on key.
3:45 Aynsley!!
😊❤️good is teaching programmers past first
These look to be in great shape< Blu-Ray Box Set - I'm in 100%!!!
About 10 years ago, there was an infomercial that offered a selection from each year on DVD… I wish it would come out on Blu-ray
@@lloydmoss217 I have the entire set of DVDs! They're available at all the Usual Places. I think they're 540p and PAL.
@@lloydmoss217 And... as is evident here, it seems that some of these performances have been ripped from a new course or quite decently Upscaled! Hope lives.
Taken From The Album: Infinity (1978)
❤
4K this please :)
It’s really interesting because Steve is singing really low in his register - I think that’s what singers say - here. Usually he’s about an octave higher.
I’m hearing the second guitar over Neal’s guitar solo… Could it be a backing track?
Think it's just the bass and piano.
🎶🎶🎶🌞🦋🫶
Steve's mic was either off, or very very low during the intro lol
You could see he backed off and let Rolie shine.
Was this Steve Smith on drums? Didn’t look like him. I thought Steve Perry and Steve Smith started together. Maybe I’m wrong.
This was from April of 1978. Their drummer was Aynsley Dunbar at that time. In the few instances of the vid where he's in view I can tell its Dunbar. Smith replaced him I believe later that same year.
@@Arasteele Cool. Thanks for the reply.
Vocals different key from the recording.
I've always liked Gregg Rollie's voice more than Steve Perry's....just my opinion.
Eat it you cut rate fill in hacks. No Perry=NO JOURNEY
LMAO
Neal's barely 24 years old here....looks like he's in his late 30's or something.
Neal Schon always overplays and ruins the song. He's the type of player that will play 1,000 notes to show how fast he can play when only 1 note should be played. A Peter Green he's not.
It's a short man's complex in that he has to do everything over the top to get noticed.
The two solos in this song are perfect for it. They're both very melodic and are not overplayed at all. If you want overly fast playing just for the sake of speed, there are many many other players you could mention before Neal Schon's name would ever come up.
@@robsanders4213, I couldn't agree more, he sounds great here!! 👌
