Don't toss out your old tent poles, Matt from Next Adventure shows us how to replace a broken or worn out shock cord to give them new life. nextadventure.net
I think the idea is to compare the pole with a broken sock cord to a known good pole. I've done this just so that the poles are flexing in the same areas to keep the tent symmetrical.
I had the same problem: press fit ends. (REI Kingdom4) Super tight. I put the pole into a vice and tightened it carefully - DON'T DEFORM IT. Then I gripped the tip with channel locks, and then hit the side of the channel locks with a hammer. Turns out the years of salty sand, mud rain, snow creates quite the bond. Mine came loose after 4 or 5 good smacks. I found replacement parts at tentpoletechnologies dot com. Good luck!
I keep seeing how to repair broken poles or bad shock chord. But how do you replace the end piece? You cannot buy those @#$%$# things. And the new poles i ordered had the wrong ends!!!!!!!!!!!!
Life saver. I just fixed my cord!!!
Thanks, I'm about to give it a shot!
Ok so why keep them in order? What if they fell off the original broken cord

This is great BUT you haven't shown how to remove the end of an aluminum pole. I can't seem to do this. Any advice or thoughts welcome.

Thanks for the thoughts. I have pretty good strength in my hands and with two pliers couldn’t budge it. Even after a bit of a soak in wd40.
The key is to clamp the pole in a vice and use locking/vice grip pliers or channellock pliers to hold the end - and hit with a hammer.
Ok. Will try that when I get near a vice. 🙂
What about a 8x10 hillary tent. 3/4 aluminum.pole
