    Based on my experiences 99% of the cycling problems with 300AAC Blackout are due to being under-gassed caused by an undersized gas port. It seems that most of the barrel manufactures design and build the barrels with gas ports designed for running suppressed. Running a suppressor gives the gas system a sizable boost in gas pressure, thus the undersized gas ports. Even a quality well respected mfg barrel can have undersized gas ports( my Wilson Combat 11.3 inch pistol gas port barrel was undersized and wouldn't even run supers reliably unsupressed).
    My biggest problem is that the 300AAC Blackout premise was that the only changes needed on the AR15 platform was a barrel change. With the correct sized gas port this is true. Without it they will not cycle properly. Everyone has suggested fixes from special buffer springs, super heavy buffers, lightweight BCG's and the list goes on and on. One channel even suggested that by changing the extractor it fixed the short cycling. A properly set up barrel should run without adding any special band-aids.
    More then likely your Palmetto State Armory BCG just needs to be broken in some. The parkerized finish is nowhere near as smooth/slick (even when lubed) as your Nickle Boron BCG.
    Great series on loading up 300AC Blackout by the way!

      hey Papa's Place... yes yes and yes! people will do about anything to a rifle.... Until it accidentally works!!! : )... Im somewhat familiar with your 300 build.. I watched some of that on your channel.. And I don't recall if I mentioned the bcg would maybe be fine once broke in.. but i might have to adjust my sub bullet recipe. Or not... I'll run that Bcg in a couple rifles and break it in. And give it a shot again.Im glad you chimed in. It's good info for those who read through the comments. Thanks my friend!!

      @@dacoelec I just got a 8.5 BA modern series pistol barrel that won’t cycle factory fiochi 135gr or S&B 200gr subs what should the gas port be sized to , I’m most likely never getting a can I just want it to eat everything I will mention it did cycle my 110gr hand loads with 18.4-18.8-19.4gr of Win296 and 175gr nosler Eld with 18gr of cfe I’m not sure what is going on if I’m running a brand new sharps reliabolt, an adjustable gas block wide open with mill spec buffer and spring 🤷🏽

      @@gsmithy7995 I drill out the port until it cycles 230gr hand cast powder coated with 11.5 gr CFE BLK. I'm also using a 1.75" x 10" can on a 7" barrel. BCA side charging upper. I use number bits and it's not unusual to be at least 5 to 10 bits larger. Guns are like people and some have a cantankerous personality. Be sure and use a good quality spray gun lube like Amsoil and don't hesitate to shoot wet. It's a bit messy but it sure helps subsonic to cycle. Best regards.

    I built my 300blk piece by piece and is pretty much the same setup you have.I casted 50 of the lee bullets and powdercoated them and shot them at the indian river public shooting range up in whitmire this past weekend and they all shot without any issues,but the accuracy went from good to bad,my groups were all over the target until I ran out of bullets,when I got home I cleaned my rifle and it appeared that I had some leading about 5 inches into the barrel.I used the harbor freight red powder coat . I also shot 40 s&w and 9mm casted bullets powder coated in the same color and they shot wonderfully without any leading issues.I hope to have another batch made up and back up to the range to test them out,I would love for you to come out and witness and maybe even document the test.

    I made the mistake of buying a mid gas length barrel. The NEMO spring helps for subs, but if the rounds aren't right, they won't chamber. I ended up neck turning, and seating deeper. I'm using the NOE 225 gn FB version of the missile. I found that swapping in my old .223 BCG made a big difference as far as cycling goes, but didn't solve things 100%. Not sure how I missed this video, butif I'd seen it, I would definitely have done things differently.

    With my sub sonic 300 blackout set up, I ended up going with a light buffer and spring to get it to cycle properly. I weighed 5 buffers and they ranged from 2.9 oz. to 4.9 oz. The 3.0 oz buffer with light weight spring is the one I ended up with that made things cycle fine in mine. I do not recommend it for supersonic. The bolt slams to hard. I think it is best to tune the gun for the ammunition you will be using.

      People get too caught up in the treatments and coatings on these parts. We are testing an ar platform now that has 5,000 rounds thru it without cleaning anything in the rifle caliber pistol. Instead of wasting money worried about the treatment or coating a critical part has,worry about the function and design of that part. A great example of this is the HMB battle bolt. It's the most innovative bolt in the entire industry but noone has talked about it for the last two years. It solves a critical failure point in the ar platform while solving some other what could be problems.
      They also solved a second known failure point in the ar platform with their monobloc barrels. Since their recent government contracts the .300blk out monobloc barrels are hard to get your hands on but they can be found. This company even solved harmonic issues that can occur with.223/5.56, .308/7.62 , and .243. This isnt so much an issue in with the 5.56 but it definatly makes a huge difference with the long range rifles. I have never shot one of their rifles that has had greater than sub moa accuracy.
      Why carrier functioned when one didnt in this video has nothing at all to do with the treatment/finish. But let's pretend it is due to the finish. As soon as it gets any fowling kr dirt on it at all,it doesnt function. Sorry for the rant. Lol

I want to be able to shoot subsonic 220 grain ammo unsurpassed. Will the ammo cycle? Obviously I haven't tested it yet. I don't want to have a stupid injury if I can prevent it.

    Richard Petty threw together old, extra paint & got Petty Blue. Now it looks like you made Speckled Elvis. I think people need to take gas port size into account with 300 BO. Many are made to use with suppressors & that could result in undergasing if a suppressor isn't used.

    Hi, in your experience, what's the ideal gas tube length for a 300 blk running a 16 inch barrel with a standard 3/4 inch port ?
    Pistol?
    Carbine?
    Mid?
    Your insights on this would be appreciated.

    Key takeaway. Understand 300 gassing with pistol powders. An adjustable gas block is step one. Any other component change is just a band-aid for not having step one.

    • @Subtlenimbus
      @Subtlenimbus Рік тому

      Unless your gas port is too small, which is usually the problem. Adjustable block is only useful if you are over gassed.

    • @blackhawk7r221
      @blackhawk7r221 Рік тому

      @@Subtlenimbus Correct, but our shop has yet to see an undergassed/undersized 300 barrel port. As a rule, most AR’s are deliberately overgassed for reliability. Throttle it back and create yourself a soft shooter. Add a rear angled tanker style compensator to make it super soft.
