Absolutely correct sir and thank you for attempting to show the physical differences as best possible . Like the man said, some ppl live to argue and stir the pot . Hydrostatic and hydraulic shock from the super sonic rounds plays a huge roll in shutting the central nervous systems down . As you said the 200 Grn subsonic is about a 45 acp worth . Which has been scientifically proved that there’s negligible shock associated with the pistol round velocity and energy . Just not enough speed to introduce the shock effect. Thanks Adam . Just curious which do you prefer in the 300 blackout, the Ruger American or the Savage Axis I’d love to see a head to head comparison and hear your preferences . Thanks

One of the main reasons I hunt with a 300 blk sub is so the guys I hunt with can have a chance to hunt. I usually go 1st thing in the morning and they hunt about an hour after me. Where we hunt you will only get 1 shot per day if its supersonic. The subs I use work great, never more than 75 yrds. Game drops within 10 ft. Plus 2 small holes and not alot of ruined meat.
Also I am sure if you stretched it out to 50 ish yards the difference would be even greater and that is still within some woods range. Still going with 30-06, 6.5 cm most of the time or 30/30 , 450 bm if the woods I’m in is thicker. Love the vids WTW
As I recall, the entire idea behind 300 Blackout is to make a round roughly equivalent to the 7.62x39 that will function better in the AR platform. The primary reason is that it would be better primarily for suppressed use in CQB situations, while still having the option to fire high velocity for other purposes. A subsonic 5.56 is like shooting a .22 Long Rifle, while a subsonic .30 caliber bullet is more akin to typical sub gun rounds. Your AR would be better for multiple purposes in a single caliber. It wasn't meant to be a deer hunting round. Much like the7.62x39 that it was made to mimic, it'll do the job just fine... provided you're not trying to use the subsonic rounds, meant to mimic performance of a sub gun round.
As we all know the .300Whisper (.300-221) is the parent for the .300BLK. AAC were just smart enough to take the .300Whisper from a Wildcat to a Commercial cartridge with SAAMI approval. .300Whisper was very popular with many handgun hunters. In South Africa, the .300Whisper was a bit of a fad in the early 2000’s when matched to a sound suppressor in the handgun hunting circles. It was particularly effective in commercial culling operations.
You got it backward. Just like the name, Whisper and Blackout, supressed subsonic was the intent. And only later when people load it with lighter projectile and realizing it has identical ballistic to kalashnikov at supersonic speed.
I hunt with .300 BLK supersonic ammo, and it has proven very effective on hogs and deer at shorter ranges. I believe subsonic would be deadly too at shorter ranges since the heavier bullet will penetrate well. The profile of a .300BLK subsonic bullet is much different from a .45 ACP and will penetrate better. Shooting reasonable distances for the cartridge and bullet placement are important. Lots of hogs of all sizes have fallen fatally to .300 BLK subsonic ammo. That being said, I prefer supersonic for my purposes.
Ditto. Supersonic 150 gr loads are lethal within 100 yards every time. Still pretty good out to 150 yards but that is where we try to draw the line. We did have one kill close to 200 yards on a small whitetail (thanks to a lucky shot right through the heart).
Good slinging, The clay don't lie. I got three of those budget Savages, one in 300BO. It's a pleasure to shoot subs, even without the shher can, and all three are grin machines with how accurate they are.
I use subs .300 supressed while hunting behind a residential area that is farm land. The Makerz REX perform better than the Hornady SubX, based on personal experience. Shot 4 deer with subs, and wouldn't hesitate to shoot a trophy if within 75 yds. But yes, if noise wasn't a concern sure I'd choose supers over them.
No one should use SubX for hunting. Solid copper expanders like Makers, Discreet Ballistics, Cavity Back and others are the way to go. It's like bow hunting with a gun. You get a solid copper that expands to almost an inch, 3X caliber expansion, with a fast twist to cause massive bleeding
Neither would be my 1st choice for deer. But close enough and exact shot placement a .22 rimfire can take deer. Interesting topic for sure. Thank you for the demonstration. Its always valuable to learn something.
The subsonic is about like a.45ACP. I won’t get a .300 Blackout because I already have a CMMG Banshee in 9mm. With 147 grainers I don’t see enough of an advantage to justify the extra expense of.300 ammo. (Lol. I wrote this before I heard him say the same thing)
Adam . You should test clay and Ballistic gel test on a comparison between the SubSonic and Supersonic. 300 BKO .that might be a visual aid to determine which one to use.
Well, energy is mass x acceleration. Slightly less mass, but significantly higher speed = more energy on target, especially at longer ranges. One significant benefit of the subsonic round is potentially greater accuracy than a round where the bullet slows from supersonic to subsonic through it’s flight, as it will become unstable in that transition. This is common in the 22rimfire rounds, but as the 300BO supersonic round is generally used at ranges far shorter than where it transitions, this wouldn’t be an issue. As a military cartridge, it is designed for a specific use, being sneaky, and taking out the enemy without alerting their mates. As a hunting cartridge, with a properly loaded bullet, it is great for minimising the risk of alerting other target species when culling, but as a specific hunting round, I want a more definite, humane, rapid kill, with minimal damage to the carcass.
I run 110gr Barnes TTSX out of my 300 blk for hog hunting and it does a great job out to about 150-200. I do however have a house gun with those same Hornady 190gr subx and from point blank to 25 yards it will work fine for the application. Great video WTW!!!
Honestly 300 blk subs are closer to 10mm performance that the Internet believed to be a death ray. 300 subs normal load is a 220 gr at 1050. 200 ft/sec faster than 45 acp
Not when the .45 is shot out of a PCC. Some of the lighter grains can do 1200+ FPS. I would stick to the 230grain +P federal HSTs they will get similar energy to a subsonic .300 shot out of a longer barrel.
That subsonic .300 blackout has the same ballistics as my Airforce Texan .45 air gun. I have harvested two bucks with my air gun but have decided to stop using it on deer. I just don’t think it’s enough to humanely take deer with. Love that background music! Great video!
Well now this was a interesting video in a very interesting comparison. I already knew what the results would be because velocity wins every time. I have messed around with hand loads on the 300 blackout and when I want a subsonic round I load a 200 grain bullet and it's fun to play with. It's so quiet with my banish 30 like you say it' just makes hardly no noise at all.
The supersonics will always do more damage and have more range. If you are shooting in a blind with other people or kids or culling multiple animals, the subsonics give some benefits. I use the subsonic for interior defense, because they don't pop your ear drums in the middle of the night when you don't have time to get on ear pro. With my silencer, my .308 subsonics sound like a pellet rifle going off, but produce about 545 ft/lbs of energy. It's better than many 9mm supersonic loads as it has more mass and yet won't pop your ears. If you shoot in an enclosed blind, it's also nice not to hear the supersonic crack. If you are walking, using an open blind, then you are likely better served by the supersonics. If you have any chance of a shot past 150 yards, you definitely want supersonics in my opinion. Honestly though WhoTeeWho, it doesn't really take that much energy to drop a deer. I shot one through the heart with a subsonic NON expanding .45 colt bullet that went in .45 cal and came out maybe .50 cal and punched through. He went 3 hops and dropped dead. It's really about shot placement and if you are smart with the range, the subsonics can be a great tool to add to your arsenal, but they will NEVER perform like a supersonic. They have minimal hydrostatic shock because they are below 2100 fps.
@@WHOTEEWHO I've helped many friends try to recover deer they shot in the heart with a 30-30 or 243 etc. Sorry you had a bad experience, but that doesn't mean it's all inclusive. A Bullet like that sub-x from Hornady or Maker bullets subsonic expanders are much better than just using a subsonic match bullet, which is what a lot of companies sell as their subsonic loads. ;). To each their own though.
I am not one to chase the new fads and newest rounds the industry puts out but your videos have convinced me to get a bolt action rifle in 300 Blackout. The round has a lot of merit and advantages for hunting. Thanks for another great video.
@@victoriazero8869 Like you haven't watched the video of the guy hitting a 600yard target 5 times in a row with a 9 inch barrel. Remember, Kenosha Kid would have BLOWN OFF the arm of the dude if he had a 300blk instead.
I’m in Illinois and the state now allows 300 BLK for deer hunting. Can only use a single shot rifle or use with a “zero” mag. No silencers in Illinois.
That was a really fun video!!! I need a .300blk bolt gun. One thing to consider in your .45acp analogy is the shape of the bullet. .45 is basically a ball of lead hitting with a much larger surface area. .300blk is a sleek pointy tip. More concentrated impact.
Neither of these and I have been hunting with 300blk exclusively for several years. SubX is substandard for hunting. You would be much better off solid copper expanders like Discreet Ballistics, Makers Rex, Cavity Back, and others. These bullets will expand to 3X caliber and will be approximately 1 inch. Its like bow hunting with a gun. Your not depending on energy to kill, you are cutting and causing massive bleeding. With a proper bullet just like a proper broadhead and good shot placement, subsonic ammo is fine and the subsonic 300blk will nearly double the range of your bow
I have a hipoint 45acp carbine that I would not think twice about taking a deer or smaller animal within 100yrds so the subsonic would be fine for anything deer or smaller
Hi Who_Tee_Who! I'm sure a Subsonic could kill a deer, but I'd go with the Supersonic also... People also go with 450 Bushmasters for deer which is well beyond even the supersonic 300BLK. I'd go with the extra energy! :)
I am so glad you made this video! Everytime I go to buy ammo I have a doubt about what to get, sub or super! Thank you for your help! Keep up the great videos!
loved how the super went through the clay and hit the steel target behind it. nice aiming. like you meant to do that. Cant wait to get my son out with my savage axis 2 in .300blk with my sandman s can. picked up some black vmax 110gr.
Id be no more confident using .300 blk subsonic vs .45acp with the exception of superior bullet placement/ aiming potential of a rifle. Imo .300 blackout is popular solely for quiet, short range in a familiar platform. I still don’t own one. I think it’s gonna be around a while. Will stay with tried and true hunting calibers for deer. It is fun to shoot subsonic with a supressor. It has its small niche. I think suppressed .45 acp w a micro red dot is as good or better due to light weight and conceal- ability. (For close range deer). With the right bullet. Thank you Adam. I enjoy your thoughtful content.
Subsonic is for doing the needful without alerting the rest of the rio-- erm, pack. Supersonic is for stacking things in a bad situation. If you catch my drift. Or for hunting, I suppose. Either way, having the ability to have a little mag of subs for when bad things are happening in your house, or you need to be shush shush AND the ability to have your other mags full of supers for going hard in the paint is a hell of a thing. Not the biggest thing, but a thing none the less.
Outstanding. As usual. That settles that! Far too many confuse their OPINIONS with actual FACTS. What you do is important, relevant, necessary and amazing Who Tee Who. Thanks again. 👍👍
Id like to see the same test Subsonic 300 Blkout versus 44 Mag, as the 44 mag pistol is a widely accepted for deer hunting. The velocity difference is minimal
.300 Black was designed for the military, for use in urban combat situations and being suppressed. Not for big game, long range, hunting. That being said. If your hunting woodland areas in the South East, you'll probably not get any 300 yard shots! (We all dream of a long range hunt, but Rarely get the chance, here!) So, most hunting is done within 100 yards. A suppressed .300 Blk Out has enough velocity, and energy to harvest a whitetail deer at the range. We just saw you blow a hole, in clay, big enough for a coffee can to go through! And soft tissue reacts way different than clay. I agree that the supersonic round will provide a fast & clean kill. But at close range... I'd hunt with subsonic! Especially for ferrel hogs & coyote, at night.
I appreciate your channel. Keeps me involved, engaged and mostly entertained. I personally am rutted and am not buying all the latest and greatest. My old guns are fun but cant wait till someone to invent one that shoots something that the gov. cannot take. Per current laws.
You are correct 300 blackout is equivalent in power to .45 acp thankfully most of the bullets loaded are meant for .308 so they don't even expand and the penetration is considerably better than .45 acp
Some of those subs will go through as many milk jugs as you can drink in half a year, hard to say why you'd need something like that other than target shooting quietly. Big boy should hit like an AK round.
You are correct, the 300 Blackout subs are like a 45 ACP. The only way to get more power in subs is increase the bullet weight. The 450 Bushmaster with the Hornady 395 makes the power of a 44 Mag and would be adequate for deer.
I'm commenting before I watch the video, the sub load that I use for hunting 150 and in is and will always be gorilla ammunition Silverback 205 grain.. it's absolutely devastating on expansion. And then I run hornady 110 v-max for supers
Try and get your hands on a 8.6 blackout and/or .375 raptor and do some testing!!! I really want to build one of them (maybe both) but want to choose the better of the two
From those numbers you posted in that other video id like to see this at a hundred yards because it would become way more apparent why you shouldn't use subsonic for hunting.
@IRishbuck58 For sure! Bigger is always better definitely as it leaves room for error. But ethically you can put down an animal humanly if their body weight doesn't exceed the foot pounds of the fired bullet.
If an empty coca cola can hit you, going 300 miles / hour (= 440 feet/sec), it would kill you! Yes, there is a trade off in Mass vs. Velocity. But, a 220 grain, .30 caliber bullet, going 1000 feet per second (= 682 Mph), is going to do enough explosive tissue & organ damage!
Idk... that 45acp is considered a short barrel rifle if you put a brace on it🙄🤣 Loved this video. Very simple way of showing the importance of selecting the correct ammo for what you're doing.
I've taken deer with that Hornady sub ammo from my 450 bm and it worked fine. My shots are generally 50 yds or less due to thick brush. You can really hear that impact with subs😁 WHOP!!!🦌🙏
ok Whoot. the deal is with subs you have to use select bullets. actually I found Cavity back bullets to perform the best. you have to think of it like a arrow not a bullet! that Hornady sub xload is the worst sub load made for hunting. you want a bullet that is all copper and opens like a broadhead. that's what subsonics should do. you're not going to get hydrostatic shock through a subsonic bullet. the deal is shoot him behind the shoulder through the lungs and go follow the blood trail to your dear he'll be about 30 to 50 yards. I have heard that Lehigh defense makes a good sub bullet as well. but I haven't killed any thing with it. but you can't compare a supper Sonic hydrostatic shock to subsonic on clay and think that is giving you a measuring point. get you some ballistic gel try one of the custom bullet makers that produce the cavity back 195 grain subsonic load shoot your super sonic into the ballistic gel and then shoot the subsonic into that ballistic gel. and I think you'll be very surprised.
Iv shoot 3 Deer under 50yds with CVA 300 blk 16" and 190s loaded with 11.7grs of RL7 @ 1062fps and 1 Deer with 110gr TTSX loaded with 19.9grs of W296 @ 2386fps . And 1 Deer 65yds with a Christensen Ridgeline FFT 308 16.25" barrel with 190s loaded with 10.5grs of Trail Boss @ 1042fps. The 190 sub x worked better. No exit hole from the 110 TTSX and it ran about 80yds and the Deer shoot with the 190s all with exit holes all fell under 45yds..
I think the clay is not a representative medium for the effect in the deer body. I have shot some deer at 35 to 90 yards with 300 SUB and had very good experiences with it. None ran more than 30 yards.
Some people will argue with anything or about any opinion that differ from their own I appreciate what you do thanks really appreciate the work and advice you give, keep shooting brother

I like that you placed the first clay block in the background when you shot the 2nd.
Good video. And you’re right. Unless it’s a 45-70, the supers are the way to go with 300 blk
As I expected... thanks Adam :) I love shooting my AR with the subsonic, with my can!
Web sight that’s uptown!
You gotta use 1:5 twist for the subs to be really effective
Maybe shoot a couple of hams and see how '45'ish that sub is, maybe 2 hames each.
Great comparison Video!
Thanks for watching
Winchester white box 125 open tip range. Recommended to another UA-camr and they liked it. Great for hunting.
Outstanding. As usual. That settles that! Far too many confuse their OPINIONS with actual FACTS. What you do is important, relevant, necessary and amazing Who Tee Who. Thanks again. 👍👍
Much appreciated
Yep, the subsonic 300blk is way better than an arrow with broadhead. At least in the clay test. lol
Glad you did this video….I remember you saying you lost 2 deer with 350 legend subsonics. That clay is proof….cant argue the damage.
👍👍
I load 125 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips for everything but self defense. I use the Barnes TAC TX 110 grain for that.
Id like to see the same test Subsonic 300 Blkout versus 44 Mag, as the 44 mag pistol is a widely accepted for deer hunting. The velocity difference is minimal
Faster almost always means better aas long as the bullet functions properly and expands right..
Awesome video bud. Love the slowmo and replay.
30-06 for hunting deer and 300 blk Sub for hunting Evo Wabbits.
Great video brother good night and GOD BLESS
Great comparison !
Thanks for watching!
I agree...i would use the supersonic.
.300 Black was designed for the military, for use in urban combat situations and being suppressed.
I shoot a deer with that same subsonic ammo. Never found it and it was a good shot. Super from now on.
👍👍🦌🦌🦌
I didn’t know they made a 300 blackout in the bolt action
But if you hunt deer with a subsonic .458 Win. Mag. or a .510 Whisper, it surely must have enough energy.
Really love the comparison, Steven 7
I appreciate your channel. Keeps me involved, engaged and mostly entertained. I personally am rutted and am not buying all the latest and greatest. My old guns are fun but cant wait till someone to invent one that shoots something that the gov. cannot take. Per current laws.
I appreciate you watching. I hear you
That's about 1260 ft/Lbs vs 460. Subs can have their uses, but on energy alone, it's no comparison.
The 450 Bushmaster with the Hornady 395 makes the power of a 44 Mag and would be adequate for deer.
they are definitely still better than .45 acp especially if they tumble.
Try the Discreet Ballistics 188 gr Selous. I have had superb luck inside 75 yards.
Hey WHO, great video as always. Keep up the good work Brother 👍👍👊
🙏🙏🙏
I'm commenting before I watch the video, the sub load that I use for hunting 150 and in is and will always be gorilla ammunition Silverback 205 grain.. it's absolutely devastating on expansion. And then I run hornady 110 v-max for supers
Really well done. Thanks for the comparison!
Thanks for watching
Try and get your hands on a 8.6 blackout and/or .375 raptor and do some testing!!! I really want to build one of them (maybe both) but want to choose the better of the two
I use Hornady subsonic for home defense in my in my SBR
From those numbers you posted in that other video id like to see this at a hundred yards because it would become way more apparent why you shouldn't use subsonic for hunting.
Let's do one now: 300blk vs. 50cal pcp Dragonclaw - chrono and clay. Whadda ya say..? Yaaaay ! Edit: Subsonic that is.
Supersonic ALL DAY LONG!!! You are Absolutely correct, Sir.
Both its is all about were ya place it.
SPALATTT! 😮 Speed normally does the job!
I think you proved your point my friend. I personally don’t think its ethical to hunt with a 300 subsonic but that’s my opinion great video
As long as the foot pounds of energy match or succeed the weight of the animal it's ethical with right shot placement in my humble opinion.
@@madworldsnight5528Recommended energy for whitetail is 750 ft/lbs.
Well that’s your opinion you’re entitle to it we can agree to disagree
@IRishbuck58 For sure! Bigger is always better definitely as it leaves room for error. But ethically you can put down an animal humanly if their body weight doesn't exceed the foot pounds of the fired bullet.
If an empty coca cola can hit you, going 300 miles / hour (= 440 feet/sec), it would kill you! Yes, there is a trade off in Mass vs. Velocity. But, a 220 grain, .30 caliber bullet, going 1000 feet per second (= 682 Mph), is going to do enough explosive tissue & organ damage!
Completely Kablooey
My favorite band name this week
Would love to see comparison between 300 blackout and 350 legend in clay blocks.
Treat the Sub as you would a compound bow and it has a place.
Or very close head/ neck shots
Fact remains why use inferior round if you don't have to?
sub sonic 8.6 blackout has entered the chat.
Wow,very big difference, I watched a fella shooting a 8
6 and 3 bolistic blocks and couldn't catch it what do you think
Awesome! Would you shoot them both in gel? Keep 'em coming!
You should do the same test comparing the 6.5 creedmore vs 6.5prc vs 6.5wby rmp
Agree mate, love ya work WTW cheers Yogi 👍
with decent shot placement I would take the less shock and have less damage to the meat as that is why I hunt.
Do the same test in the same rifle with hornady black 110 grain super sonic vs hornady black subsonic....I'd like to see that one....
Head shots, only with subs. Nice comparison.
Sub-sonic blackout is very equivalent to big bore air-gun hunting. If you haven't tried it, do it, it will expand your horizons.
Idk... that 45acp is considered a short barrel rifle if you put a brace on it🙄🤣 Loved this video. Very simple way of showing the importance of selecting the correct ammo for what you're doing.
Another good one.
Can we get a 300BLK vs 450 Bushmonster, super v subs video?
YAY! More clay!!!
I've taken deer with that Hornady sub ammo from my 450 bm and it worked fine.
My shots are generally 50 yds or less due to thick brush.
You can really hear that impact with subs😁 WHOP!!!🦌🙏
Bullet selection around here depends on if u have acquired a tag or not😮
ok Whoot. the deal is with subs you have to use select bullets. actually I found Cavity back bullets to perform the best. you have to think of it like a arrow not a bullet!
that Hornady sub xload is the worst sub load made for hunting. you want a bullet that is all copper and opens like a broadhead. that's what subsonics should do. you're not going to get hydrostatic shock through a subsonic bullet. the deal is shoot him behind the shoulder through the lungs and go follow the blood trail to your dear he'll be about 30 to 50 yards.
Great comparison! Also, just checked out the website. Nicely done. I think I’ll grab a hat 🤙
Thanks for watching! Thanks for checking out the site
Hey WTW a gel block test with the same ammunition!
Impressive, the difference between them was night and day
Sure the subs are a much more accurate "45acp" or even 10mm. Much less recoil and longer range its meant for X ing out bad guys in cqb.
Your bing bang videos are the best.
🙏🙏🙏
