When it came back, the front sight was aligned but the feed ramps were out of alignment. What’s your guess what they did? I’d bet you money they did the old Bushmaster trick of beating on the front sight with a heavy mallet rotating the barrel extension inside the upper.

I bought two economy PSA AR15 uppers, and one had a sticky bolt, but it started working 100 pct with some brake in and worked fine with diff bolts. I don't know why, but after breaking in, testing my bolt travel, the sticking went away. I did not run checks or trouble shoot, but when it started working and cycling, I called it good and fired hundreds of rounds with zero probs. Same for all my cheap AR's. PSA, DPMS, and Anderson Rifles. I thought PSA uppers and lowers were a good value and worked without any malfunctions, even with diff manufacturer bolts; lots of diff mags/ammo. I had no complaints for cheap gun that doesn't get used hard nor go to war. Happy PSA customer.
@volkskrieg8735 oof. well I guess I'll keep an eye out for that failure point on mine. no issues so far but I haven't crossed 2k rounds yet I'm around 1600 ish on it with no issues, only ever fed it brass.
I had a barrel extension literally unscrew from removing a muzzle device that was torqued to about 35 ft lbs. Franklin Armory barrel, it was manufactured circa 2013.
i have a PSA sabre 13.7 .308 even with the adjust gas block i can't get it right. would have loved to see one of those done but i'm still enjoying this. Thanks!!
It really seems like psa has a solid upper here. They give the shop gorrilla a torque wrench and Midwest tool and things will be lining up quite nicely. I wonder if this is a common theme for most psa uppers or if it’s just these cheap ones where this is a problem.
My PSA upper was clocked too. PSA doesn't seem to use barrel shims to stay within proper torque values. I'm guessing that they overtighten to avoid using shims and to assemble faster. I won't buy another PSA upper due to how difficult it was for me to remove the barrel nut to fix the clocking.
Why don't they use 2 or more pins for the barrel extension? I've always felt the pin is a little too thin. I know it could make the threaded part of the upper wesker but as far as I can see the extension is just threaded on and has 1 pin, I can understand 1 pin to clock but why not another 1 to 3 flush pins to make it more solid. I know some people swear by (bedding) the barrel as they use shims, picture or both but aluminium is soft and torqed correctly it's a solid fit with no need for bedding. I true my uppers, some don't need much at all but some need more, it removes a tiny amount of material but I'm not sure if its worth it as I don't have a tool to true the barrel extension but I have found that doing it has had better results. It would be nice if PSA offered it's kits or uppers unassembled. It's nice to see they test fired it but I think by law all manufacturers should fire 1 or 2 proof loads. In alot of nations proofing is the law and I have had some firearms come in (usualy AKs with no pistol grip or the mag cutout for 30 round mags) come with at least 1 empty cartridge from test firing, a proof mark and sometimes a bench group. Setting up something like proof houses in the US would considerably push up the prices of firrarms and I'm sure some manufacturers do use a proof load but it would be nice if they all did as paying a dollar or so more for them to use overpressure proof rounds. I would prefer it. Not sure if barrel makers like FN proof, but it does not mean much if a manufacturer uses FN barrels but not matched FN bolts.
I have 100s of rounds down range with zero stoppages with my PSA. No parts wiggling loose. Accuracy is more than sufficient to ring steel at 200 yards for 3-gun matches. Only issue is the lower is out of spec and so an aftermarket bolt wouldn’t fit (it was rubbing against the pin that holds in the buffer tube spring), but for $400 for a whole rifle I can’t complain. Same with my Radical 6.8 SPC (which is way more accurate than any other rifle I own outside of my .243 Tikka T3x). My Aero .300 is slightly nicer, but it won’t make a difference for most shooters.
Hey not sure if anyone else is noticing this or it's because I've got headphones on, but something's up with the audio in this video. It's probably due to some kind of background noise suppression or the location of the mic, but Something in the left ear is causing physical discomfort, like it will frequently spike, inducing vertigo and sinus pressure. If I unplug the left ear that sensation goes away so it's mostly whatever is going on in the left channel.
Im starting to get to know more about the platform. What is the difference between a budget upper or lower receiver? If you were to strip a Daniel Defense and a PSA down to each individual part, Is it the name, material used, or the quality control?
Apologies if you have previously addressed the question I am going to ask but what tool should be used if you can’t get the Midwest action rod you are using to seat for barrel removal? To clarify, if the extension is extremely misclocked.
I would love if you did a similar video with either yhe sabre-line uppers or the "premium" fn barreled uppers. Would love to see if you see the same PSA QC issues
If you run into a burr from the gas port what do you do to fix it? Some say just shoot rounds others say try to file it down so I’d love your expertise.
PSA seems to struggle more with FSB alignment on their 20" barrels in my experience. Maybe they have jigs to align carbine/mid length blocks, but didn't want to spend the money for the rarer rifle-length uppers?
Are the modified Go/No Go guages items that are sold by a company, or did you modify them yourself? I'd hate to repurchase guages since mine weren't cheap, but it would be so nice not having to take the bolt apart. I bought a jig to make it easier, but it's still a pain in the As.
I get a kick out of the barrels sliding in and out of the upper. I've never been able to just pull or put a barrel into an upper receiver without a heat gun. But I've only built billet uppers. Maybe that's it. No link to the next video, this is really interesting.
It’s been a running joke for years that the PSA barrel nuts are tightened by a gorilla. 😂
Glad it wasn't only me suffering to take it off!

@volkskrieg8735 what went wrong with your RFB?
James on TFB intentionally put a .300 BO in a 5.56 CZ Bren 2, and it cleared the barrel. We have a cat just like Rebel.
Just dropping in to say that Rebel is doing a fantastic job.
Very interesting. I’m pretty sure Rebel needs something to eat. 😂😂😂
😂😂😂. He looks thin. 😆
Fat shamer! Rebel's just big boned.
I was not expecting to learn this much genuinely useful knowledge. Subbed
Here for all the really cool gauges and tools.
I would love if you did a similar video with either yhe sabre-line uppers or the "premium" fn barreled uppers. Would love to see if you see the same PSA QC issues
I had a PSA dissipator upper I bought for the barrel, and the barrel nut was also crazy tight
This is the best channel I have found in a while. Thank you for sharing so much info.
2 PSA uppers did you really think perfection right from the box? I am impressed with your tool used to check 😊
Are the modified Go/No Go guages items that are sold by a company, or did you modify them yourself?
I'd hate to repurchase guages since mine weren't cheap, but it would be so nice not having to take the bolt apart.
I bought a jig to make it easier, but it's still a pain in the As.
Great video, I appreciate the knowledge you share. Where can I get a set of those modified head spacing gauges? Those are pretty sweet!
A link to the list of tools used would be awesome!!! Great video
So with the pin being aligned correctly, the excessive torque and lacking support on assembly misaligned it?
I took all mine apart and they were WAAAAAAYYYYY overtorqued. I had to use the longest torque bar I had on my barrel nut wrench to break it free.
Even the sabre line is disappointing how their non pined gas blocks are not even dimpled. I had one and the feed lips were misaligned as well. Sad
Rebel is a exact copy of our kitty Irving, it's scary. Another great video!!!
Mine too, exactly! Her name is Cordi.
I get a kick out of the barrels sliding in and out of the upper. I've never been able to just pull or put a barrel into an upper receiver without a heat gun. But I've only built billet uppers. Maybe that's it.
No link to the next video, this is really interesting.
