You can easily gain strength just playing basketball, don't get any weight yet, and don't worry, waiting is worth it. Just a question... When we want to grow tall, it is highly recommended that we hang from a bar to stretch our spine. If hanging can stretch our spine and make us taller, why can't weight training compress our spine and inhibit our growth. Especially exercises like deadlift and overhead dumbell press which put quite a lot of load in the lower spine. This is a question which torments me @beerbiceps
i dont know about hanging but after i started weight training i grew by an inch in like 3 months when the doctor said i wont grow more because of some shit about my GDH
Hanging from a bar does not stretch your spine my friend. Also lifting weights will not stunt your growth. Both of these have been proven by science. Many people have growth spurts, because the don't realize you don't stop growing until your like 21
My cousin has always played football and actually around the same time he started lifting weights he blew past me in height, I would say if anything weight training properly at a younger age can improve growth hormone and testosterone long term. I'm not a scientist just giving an anecdote of my own experience.

I am a mom. I can’t help not thinking that lifting weight will not effect your height. You should do push ups on a door bar. Jump rope Run. Basketball. This is what you do. When you are twenty one. Go lift weights
Protein factor is the key. We don't eat much protein and weight lifting not good but if diet is ok then doing it is good. Sleep is also a problem. Here children go to school and homework takes all rest. So lift accordingly.

So I trained like crazy from 13-19 and went to and well above failure every set. My diet was ok and high protein but I just slept around 5-6 hours due to a long way to school. I haven’t grown since the age of 14.; have had several small pain issues (shoulder, forearms) but nothing, that hindered my training for too long. I am 22 now and I greatly fear, that I stunted my growth & didn’t realize soon enough.
