This video features audio from Sony/Follow That Dream's " That's The Way It Is - 50th Anniversary Collector's Edition".
Elvis' rehearsal of Bridge Over Troubled Water during the session on 4 August 1970 in The International Hotel's Convention Center is both a fascinating listen and watch as it show just how proactive Elvis was in the evolvement of the song's arrangement before it was presented on stage.
After running through a complete version of the song, Elvis is quite happy to question the previous arrangement arrived at by Elvis, Charlie Hodge and Glen D. Hardin and then to try something new as the thought occurs to him.
Getting the arrangement at this stage was critical as Elvis was aiming to introduce the song to his set list for the very first time just six nights later due his opening show on 10 August. It was however, his rendition during the dinner show, a week to the day after this rehearsal that is seen by many as the definitive Elvis live version and the song would become a staple of Elvis' live show throughout the seventies.
Only a small portion of this rehearsal toward the end of the segment was shown in both the 1970 and 2001 versions of Elvis - That's The Way It Is, although both movies contained slightly different edits.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
For those that, don’t like Elvis, because he didn’t write his own music, not only what the man was capable of with his voice, the arrangement of a song he was totally in control of. He knew what he liked. He knew what sounded good. He was brilliant!

In Elvis' day, it was common practice.
Yeah there were a lot of people that got screwed financially because of that but that was on Tom Parker and not Elvis . The fact is Elvis pretty much did other people's songs better than the original artist in most cases. I'm a musician and I can't think of anyone I'd rather have cover something I wrote than Elvis Presley. Obviously that'll never happen but I can dream....

Interesting fact, the algorithm autotune uses does NOT work on Elvis, his vibrato confuses the autotune, its impossible to pitch correct Elvis. So yes Elvis voice is one of a kind!

The high notes in the vibrato, or the low ones.
Will make it sound very strange and jumpy.
That's why nobody tried to auto tune his voice.

People who slate Elvis for “just being an ok singer” ..🥱🙄 really bore me, they know nothing about his utter perfection in producing exactly what HE wanted from a song to make it his own!!, This gives a taste of how much effort he personally put in to getting it effortless on stage in his concerts....didn’t concentrate on any dance moves....they came naturally and as he felt the flow....but he wasn’t JUST a singer....please, some people need an education on the best entertainer to have lived, best looking, most respectful & changed music in a way no one did before whether people like that or not....great rehearsal, the backing singers look like fans too lol their beautiful voices complimented Elvis perfectly 🥰

His voice is so versatile it's uncanny. To be able to sing like that must be truly a awesome. It's the "belivability" that does it. No matter the song. When Elvis sings it you believe that he' is believing in what he sings. No other artist can do this like him.
It's really great to see this rehearsal and then hear what it became in his live performances. No can argue that his live version of the song is one of the greatest vocal performances ever recorded. His arrangement made the song so powerful and touching.
He not only sang the songs, but arranged the music and productions.
After Paul Simon heard Elvis sing it, he said Elvis owns it now.

I had just turned 5 when he died. I was at my grandmas house and she was crying her eyes out. I remember knowing that something really bad had happened, as o had never seen her cry before.
