'I Just Can't Help Believing' was an integral part of the original 1970 version of 'That's That's The way It Is' with it running almost as a subplot throughout the entire movie. From the Culver City rehearsal through the dressing room and backstage worries about remembering the lyrics to the second show performance shown in the movie, a performance which RCA chose as the master recording of the song and one which would become an Elvis classic.
The 2001 re-edited version of the movie however, almost completely removed all trace of the song. Many fans quite rightly bemoan this inexplicable exclusion of this and the remarkable rendition of 'Bridge Over Troubled' from the new movie, but at least the latter retained a rehearsal version.
The original 1970 movie contained a heavily edited rehearsal version of I Just Can't Help Believing filmed on 29 July in Culver City which was actually the fourth time that Elvis had rehearsed the song with MGM's cameras present. It seems that on the three previous occasions that Elvis had rehearsed 'I Just Can't Help Believing', all on 24 July in RCA's Hollywood studios, the cameras were turned off.
The 29 July version was actually over six minutes long and some extra footage was made available in the excellent 'TTWII - The Complete Works' set, but the video was still incomplete as the camera seems to have been turned off mid-song, probably to save tape.
A clue to this is that Elvis tells the band to do the instrumental a second time just after the footage resumes. After thirty one previous movies it seems that Elvis knows when the camera is on or off and as a result the second instrumental was used in the original movie.
An official audio of this rehearsal version was released by FTD on 'The Way It Was' but for some reason the 'I need the lyrics' and 'Somebody must've eaten them last night' dialogue was moved onto the songs intro. In order to to keep the audio as it should be the first portion of audio comes from the unofficial CD 'Plugged In and Geared Up' and the remainder and majority from the aforementioned 'The Way It Was'. Additionally I have inserted photos where no video footage exists.
There never was...never will be...anyone...who could ever come close to the Magic that was...and ever will be...ELVIS. He had it ALL...talent, sound, rhythm, sweetness, the ability to have his voice do what he felt. I believe that was the key...he FELT the music. He projected his feelings. And we love it. We will always love Elvis..until the end of time. Rest easy beautiful man.

I will never get fed up of listening to Elvis, he could sing the phone book and never miss a note, one of the very few singers who didn't need auto tune, fantastic voice and fantastic guy all round, what a gift the man had.
I'm 25 years old been apart of this talented guy's massive fan base since I was 14 i proudly own Elvis's last studio album Moody Blue sealed with the original advertising stickers on it and cost tag from a record album shop where it was purchased on that devastating day August 16th 1977 and a concert ticket for September 28th 1977 the beginning of what was supposed to be another tour for Elvis but due to his shocking sad unexpected passing on the scheduled concerts were canceled. What an honor to have these special items in my possession and to display them in my living room my younger siblings and cousins can laugh all they want but Elvis Presley can't be matched with any music business artist today and is still The King Of The Music Industry due to being in almost every music Hall Of Fame there is and still 45 years later out of any none living music artist in the music industry out sells them all when it comes to music there is still an audience for Elvis Presley in 2022 and there always has been even before the Elvis movie and there always will be the music industry and the world never recovered from August 16th 1977
Magic came out of Elvis. Simple light shows no back up dancers no voice modifying just pure musicians their instruments and a whole lot of what Elvis was blessed with.
Love to hear Elvis sing this song. I just love ❤ and miss him. He is as beautiful rehearsing as he is the best preforming on stage.. There will never be anyone like him, and I am still listening in 2022.

This rehearsal is absolutely beautiful. Elvis is such a loving man, he loves to sing with that incredible voice, he makes me so emotional when he sings this song and you see him sing it. Good God.
He is just at one with everything, the rhythm, bass, melody, it all flows through him, and in him. There is no filter, no wall, no separation- just pure unfied expression witch connects to us all. Watching him, is a marvel. I thank whatever stars of heaven that sent him here.
Although I was a lot younger than Elvis. When I grew older I would have loved to hang out with him one day. I know he was such fun. He had such a huge sense of humor. And when he sang he felt it as he made his fans feel it as well. Elvis could also read people. God gave him so many talents. I will forever love you Elvis.

In all the videos posted, even snippets of them you see ELVIS rehearsing in 1970. ELVIS would just like to be on any STAGE, whether it be in a REHEARSAL STUDIO like this at MGM he would give of HIMSELF to make it right. HE JUST LOVED to SING.
ELVIS had EVERYTHING and you all know what i mean. He wanted always to make PEOPLE HAPPY even for the 1-2 hours at the shows and ELVIS achieved this with EVERY SHOW, even the last few shows in JUNE OF 77.👌👌👌❤❤

I went six times to see.it on the big screen. My husband went with me twice. Each time felt like the first time. Dance, clapped and sang the whole time!
I just can't help believing he's gone for so long but his memory will live on 4 always. We were certainly lucky to have this talented and beautiful human being. Gone but never forgotten.

Charlie Hodge. Charlie Hodge worked with Elvis Presley for 19 years.

Charlie was singing in a quartet and Elvis used to see Charlie on tv before he went in the army. Charlie got drafted about the same time as Elvis. When Elvis came back from when his mother died Charlie heard him crying in his bunk at night. So Charlie would go sit with him and talk to him. Then when they got in the ship to go to Germany they put Elvis in the officers quarters And he asked them to put Charlie with him. So they did. But Charlie was a singer in a gospel quartet before Elvis got really famous. So he always got the job of harmonizing with Elvis. If you want to hear Charlie’s story about being Elvis frievd it’s here on you tube. Look up Charlie Hodge talks about Elvis. He stayed on at Graceland after Elvis passed and helped Vernon with allot of stuff. I think he ws there for about a year. But it’s in the story.

This Leon is really one of the greatest collector of Elvis, if not the best because he brings new footages, new way to present Elvis whom he knows like nobody. I will always love BJ's version of this song. But the King, while REHEARSING, basically rolling out of bed, can sing and be right there with BJ! Wow! I was too young to have seen his concerts (He died when I was 7), but always have loved his music.
