I know I've said it somewhere before this comment, but I must again. This is the greatest live performance ever. Period. This is a 36 year old man, gone from the music scene for a long while thanks to Uncle Sam and Colonel Parker and his dream of Elvis as a movie star. I've seen most all of them, rock and roll speaking, the Stones, Queen with Freddie, Jethro Tull, on and on. This performance puts every other one to second place at maximum. They didn't call him the King for nothing you know...thank you Elvis Presley for changing the world forever, in a great way...RIP ELVIS PRESLEY
Friend, congratulations on your words. In another video of this song (original version with subtitles in Portuguese), a Brazilian fan was very happy to express the following words (facts): "... there are good singers, there are great singers, there are excellent, wonderful, spectacular singers... . and... there is Elvis Presley"!!!!
I agree with you that "This is the greatest live performance ever" among popular music and rock and roll singers. In fact, we have an unimpeachable authority on the quality of this performance: none other than Paul Simon, the composer and original singer of this song (along with Art Garfunkel) was blown away when he saw video of this. He considered it the best version out of hundreds of covers, and said something like, "How can you compete with that?"
In 1959 , Elvis rode in to a small Restaurant on a Harley with 2 more riders . In a small town Odonville, Alabama. My dad and mom , me and my Sister were eating. But at the same time you can see he's not forcing it, he's having fun, smiling, even if he misses a tone or anything he just goes with it.. Natural talent
@@mullaoslo Before every concert elvis would go over and over again to get it done right he band said it had to be perfect not good perfect he would rehearse for weeks and hours to get it rite he pleased fans not just a show he meant it
I LOVE the wording of your comment...except I wish you would’ve said “King Of Music!” As Elvis said “There is only one King! I am just an entertainer!” 😁
This is an outstanding performance, simply the best, but to say that Elvis "never walked through a song" is a bit of a stretch. In many of his concerts in the 1970s he would quickly "walk through" some of the original big hits from the 1950s like Hound Dog, All Shook Up, etc. because fans still wanted to hear those songs but he didn't want to spend much energy or time on them.
When I get upset about life I watch Elvis sing and remember that he was such a wonderful man and I try hard to keep a good heart because that's what I loved about him the most his beautiful heart❤I still cry because I miss him so dearly
He was the greatest entertainer that ever lived ,besides the most gorgeous beautiful sexy man I have ever seen. I loved him then and I love him still today.🥰🥰😘👅💋💋👀❤️❤️❤️❤️
I agree. Fullness. Depth. Warmth. Could hit highs and lows. Probably in such good shape he could make low tones audible where others couldn't. I know opera singers personally and they both rave about his skills.
I'm sitting here listening to this song and I've heard it a hundred times, and chills are running up and down my arms along with goose bumps. This man is the greatest singer of all time.
Yes, that is the greatest miracle of ELVIS. How can He be so alive when seen and heard on videos, He is still able to sweep us off our feet and fall under his irresistible spell. A POWERFUL SPELL that seems to live on and on, Forever.
@James: Ich kann das verstehen. In meinen schlechten Zeiten gab mir Elvis sehr viel Kraft. That's exactly what Elvis wanted. Elvis greatest wish was that he wanted to make people happy.
I am Chinese born and a fan from 1958 to now...close to 60 years. During this time many great entertainers have appeared. Beatles, Stones, BGees, Roy Orbison,Michael Jackson and others. I especially loved Abba. But truly I believe none can come close to Elvis. He was just special and even the other greats must agree as many of them have done publicly. There will not be another one like him and for sure not in my life time. He is America's greatest gift to the world.
Persona Email: As I stated in my initial comment, a Professor of music attributed Elvis' extraordinary vocals to where his vocal registers were placed. We know vocal register placement is determined during 9 month pregnancy. If one believes (and I do), in divinity, then God chose to give Elvis those vocals for a divine purpose and we will never know that exact, specific divine purpose.
No vocal training, no real instrument training, no auto tune or ear piece, he picked out his musicians & backup singers, he never wrote songs yet arranged them, never had highly paid arrangers for his shows, He was the show, one man, one voice there to make his audience happy and provide a brief escape from their troubles. RIP!
There will never be another Elvis. He was everything. Beauty, voice, charisma, talent, generous heart and a stage presence and entertainer that can never be matched. He is missed.
Best performance ever, not only by Elvis but litterly de best performance i’ve ever heard and saw. The voice, the band, the background vocals everything is spot on. This man was truly the king.
@@itze_ I'm a musician and I study music at the Conservatory of my town. Jacob has nothing to do with Elvis, I was curious and just tonight I've listened to the Jacob Collier studio version even the live version. Collier uses so many modern technologies that help a lot to do a show and he disguises the original song "Bridge over troubled water". There's no the same feeling, strength, emotions and shades of the Elvis version, even the choirs of Elvis are more genuine. As I was listening to the beginning of the studio version I thought that Jacob was trying to imitate Michael Jackson.
God almighty. His voice was just beyond anything that anyone else can produce. He can be delicate, warm and then blow the back wall down. A gorgeous arrangement, too. Perfect.
Unbelievable range, perfect pitch, showmanship that has never really been duplicated...this is Elvis at his absolute best and I cannot think of another artist that could/can match his talent.
I can still remember being in a kid going for long drives with my mom and dad. My dad always put in the Elvis gospel tape cassette on those drives. I would sit in the back seat of that ford escort and just be amazed. I hope his legacy lives on and on.
.Paul Simon said, “When I first heard Elvis perform ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, it was unbelievable. I thought to myself, ‘How the hell can I compete with that?'”
That is a biblical voice. Its stirs your soul. I am not religious this man brings me to tears 42 years after his death. He will do it as long as he is heard. Bless.
For you youngsters that listen to music from the 80's until now. You have just witnessed the finest entertainer to ever grace the earth. You should have noticed by now that the voice is crystal clear and you can understand the words, and the music has tune and rhythm. Enjoy while you still can.
its not a question over who was better than who or who did the greatest this or that.its just a fine performance in a soulfull way from someone who people dont really know his immense quality and the stuff he recorded such as countless blues and gospel tracks
"You have just witnessed the finest entertainer to ever grace the earth." - Woah hold your horses, that is YOUR subjective meaning. I completely disagree with this statement. "You should have noticed by now that the voice is crystal clear" - Actually this is NOT crystal clear, at least not in my ears. Too much vibrato if I might add. If there is something that's *crystal* clear it's the horns and the piano playing.
God this man was so gifted. I'm in tears listening to this. His music is so moving and emotional. If this doesn't touch you your not human. Here in 2020
I’m only 20 years old now, my mother has brought me up with Elvis. Not a day goes by where he hasn’t been playing throughout my childhood. I am deeply moved by him. He has to be my favourite artist in the world. Nobody will ever come close. He is such a comfort to me. I would’ve loved to see him live, in another lifetime maybe. What a truly one of a kind talent and man. Rest peacefully King.
@Rach, research Pastor Bob Joyce and let me know what you think😉 Elvis has always loved the Lord, & he wanted out of the lifestyle he was living. If you go to his church, he sings there, but please be respectful and do not ask him if he is Elvis. The Lord has made all things new for him & that's the way he wants it. God bless him.❤
@@debbieg217 I have seen these rumours before but he loved his little girl so much and would not have ever left her and allowed her to mourn for him! One thing about Elvis too is that despite how he was doing at the time he did everything for his fans, until the end and I don’t believe he would ever fake his own death to hurt so many people
@@deadpoetstodd agreed! I know people desperately want to believe he is alive but what they don't fully realise is that Elvis is still with us. Not in a physical disguise as another person but his spirit is still very much part of this world. Every time we play his music, watch his films, 'attend' his live performances we are continuing to mark his territory on this world. The biopic has brought Elvis completely into my life. Prior to that, he was on the sidelines as someone who had some good songs that I liked but now - my soul has been burst wide open! Honestly, because I have playing his music daily, watching his films and re-learning to play guitar - I feel Elvis giving me a sense of peace, contentment and motivation that I did not realise I was missing. Elvis is still with us and always will be. ❤️🎸

Nothing comforts me more than hearing Elvis sing this song. It is exquisite. No other vocalist compares. He was a musical genius moved by God. Even Paul Simon was floored.
OMG!!! I’ve never heard Elvis sing this song! Wiped tears out of my eyes when he finished. Amazing!! This, coming from someone who never liked him when I was younger, but just like everyone else, once you truly listen to him, you never forget that voice.
I am so pleased my 16yr old son has discovered Elvis, albeit through the movie, but he 'gets it', the talent, the humour, the tenderness of EP, he's not listening to anything else at the moment. We even had to get him a taking care of business ring! Great stuff.
This is also happening to me. I am 43 and I didn't like or dislike Elvis, I just ignored him. After seing the movie (already two times) I am an absolute fan. His live performances are out of this world. He hits your heart on every note. He is probably the only one that performs better on stage than in the studio.
@@miquelmarti6537 It is so unreal that I was EXACTLY the same way. I did like some of Elvis' music, but did not pay much attention. The movie made me realise how much I was missing in my life without even knowing it. I spent three decades without Elvis and I am not wasting another second! Nobody in the world ever going match him and this is coming from a MJ fan!
I'm Gen X and just saw the movie with my Gen Z son. We both loved it! Be sure to sit and listen to the music during the ending credits..some amazing fusion in there: Eminem wordsmithing his way through The King and I (Jailhouse Rock beat!), and plenty of other artists.. Music truly transcends generation.. #Elvis #TCB
The movie? As in the new one? I thought it was terrible. Just my opinion, but jump cuts and barely covering his life with too many wasted shots and filller. Ugh. I watched it with my mother and she was mad we spent $7 to rent it. 😄

...and is able to recognize that this is sung by a man who laid himself down like a bridge over troubled water for so many people that surrounded him, and people he met and who were in need. Elvis needed such a bridge but the bridges were always too short and not wide enough to ease his mind and pain for a longer period of time. So he helped himself, as well and as often as he could, by being that bridge for others.
Close your eyes folks and go back in a time machine to that period when Elvis sang this live and you are part of the audience. That’s how good this version is.
This song really helped me through a difficult time. My mother died and I never grieved for about four years. I was only 14 and for years Elvis helped me through. Legend.
I can relate. I heard this song sung for the first time in New York 1970. My father got my mother tickets for her birthday. She was a big Simon & Garfunkel fan. The week before the concert my father had a heart attack and died. I went with Mom in his place. His very last words to me were "take your Mom..." I was ten. It was like Art Garfunkel was singing this just to me and my Mom. I'm sure lots of people felt like that at that concert. It was the right song at just the right time. My mother of course bought the album, wore it out, bought a replacement and repeated this for several years. She had been widowed in her thirties left with five children and I was the oldest. On more than one occasion she put the cap back on a bottle of pills she had intended to swallow after listening to this song. She was depressed and suicidal for years but this song always pulled her through. I'd have been an orphan were it not for this song. Elvis did a good job hear. But it is difficult to like any better than that first performance back in 1970.
No actually I don't. I never cared for his singing. Some was OK but the best version of this song was by Garfunkel by far. This song was written specifically for Garfunkel's singing style and voice. Not only did Elvis NOT sing this better but I could think of a dozen singers who have sung it far better. I think my biggest problem with Elvis is that he betrayed his roots and transformed himself into a Las Vegas clown act.
I feel sorry for you... You sadly miss the forest for the trees. Elvis encapsulated all that was Americana! He was not a caricature of himself. Elvis dominated American musical culture because he was the epitome of musical and artistic perfection. Elvis was called the King because he IS the King! No one could come close! They all die in shame trying....
@@martywhitevan I just watch that performance and, in fact, the boy has a wonderful voice. It is a truly amazing performance of a classic song.
I love this version so much ❤
He never walked through a song, gave it his all. 100 yrs from now he'll still be KING.
But at the same time you can see he's not forcing it, he's having fun, smiling, even if he misses a tone or anything he just goes with it.. Natural talent

Before every concert elvis would go over and over again to get it done right he band said it had to be perfect not good perfect he would rehearse for weeks and hours to get it rite he pleased fans not just a show he meant it
I LOVE the wording of your comment...except I wish you would’ve said “King Of Music!” As Elvis said “There is only one King!
Grieving for my dear Dad just now. This gives me strength

I agree. Fullness. Depth. Warmth. Could hit highs and lows. Probably in such good shape he could make low tones audible where others couldn't. I know opera singers personally and they both rave about his skills.

He is America's greatest gift to the world.
so perfectly said!! elvis belonged not only to AMERICA but the whole WORLD!!!

@@YoungAtHeart1941 Yes very interesting information. Thank you I believe too.
You said it very well and true!!

I do. No one could sing this song better than Elvis. Who can today in the 2024, make it better?
Well, Jacob Collier just did a version
@@itze_
I'm a musician and I study music at the Conservatory of my town.
Bouke Scholten, look it up and you see that his voice and impressions is just like Elvis

@@debbieg217 I have seen these rumours before but he loved his little girl so much and would not have ever left her and allowed her to mourn for him!
He hits your heart on every note.

...and is able to recognize that this is sung by a man who laid himself down like a bridge over troubled water for so many people that surrounded him, and people he met and who were in need.
Elvis needed such a bridge but the bridges were always too short and not wide enough to ease his mind and pain for a longer period of time.
So he helped himself, as well and as often as he could, by being that bridge for others.

This song really helped me through a difficult time. My mother died and I never grieved for about four years. I was only 14 and for years Elvis helped me through. Legend.
Sorry, this song is 'Like bridge over troubled water"...My Giovanni is passed 18 agosto 2012:ELVIS my bridge
+nunya biznez you gotta admit nynya elvis did a better touching version. if anybody knew emotional pain it was. ELVIS PRESLEY.
I've heard quite of few people sang this heartfelt song and they all did good. But, the voice of Elvis Presley is much more stronger and powerful. He sang it perfectly. I can listen to Elvis all day every day!!. This man is/was AWESOME.
Me too
Watching this amazing performance during the pandemic lockdown. Best version ever! Elvis' voice is incomparable. Happy to find this treasure record.
Was 11yrs old when Elvis passed, now 56 and still can’t beat listening to him sing. No-one will ever surpass the King!!
I was 10. 55 now. I hear ya!
Omg me too! And I was living in South America and didn’t know a word of English, but OmG how I love him and to be able to learn English after I moved to the USA when I was 13 and understand the words😻😻😻😻😻😻🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵

Lady/dude, you 're a genius 👍.
Elvis will NEVER be Dead
❤ you just nailed it.
I was introduced to ELVIS from a very young age and when he died when I was 5, I was absolutely heartbroken. I loved this man and I will continue to do so, whether it is true or he HAD to get out BoB Joyce./ We will NEVER EVER be blessed with this voice again. EVER! There is only one ELVIS. Nobody can replace him no matter how times change.
Simply sublime. His vocals are touched by the heavens. Every word beautifully sung and felt, accompanied by an astonishing stage presence. He had it all: voice, charisma, soul and incomparable talent.
There had never been and never will be anyone like Elvis. The king forever
The one and only.
Preach it there is only one best of the very best and Elvis was it!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Otis Blackwell?
When I'm alone I listen to Elvis and I feel lonesome no more. Late at night in my car his voice warms my heart. He is like a good friend I never had... thank you king for your company
He got me through Covid. I didn't feel alone.
I just found out my husband may have heart problems, and I came here to listen to this. It made me feel better for a few minutes...
Me too! Everytime I feel sad or lonely I like to listen to his voice (mainly him singing this one), it calms me down and warm my heart and I stop crying
Likewise... I have been really sick these past several days.. And i been listening to the many of Elvis's gospel songs...❤❤
