There is little room for debate that Elvis’ June 1970 recording session in Nashville produced some of the finest material of his career. However, as with most recording sessions, there are often one or two songs which are not quite at the same level of quality as the rest of that particular session.
This song, Sylvia, is one which fits into that category and this seems to be an opinion shared both by Elvis and RCA as it was not deemed suitable for any of the three albums that resulted from this session. Instead it was released on the patchwork 1972 album “Elvis Now” which contained songs recorded from 1969 to 1971 robbing it of any flow of consistency.
It is no surprise that the song was the penultimate song recorded during the June 1970 session, after all of the top quality songs, and those that would be heard on the albums had already been completed. However, the song seems to be a favourite amongst many fans in common with the album on which it is contained.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
Sylvia change my life FOREVER, I discovered this song on 2022 on her 50th anniversary I was 17 years old, for the first time that I hear I fall in love instatly, here in Brazil this song got an exclusive single for her, I swear to God there's not a single time that I don't cry to listen it, the arrangement of back vocals and the trumpet reminds of classical music, even if this song is not very reminded often she's my FAVORITE of All times, everyday I remember Elvis and thank him for it, wherever he is now THANK YOU KING!!! and thank you Leon, i will save this video forever from the bottom of my heart!

Absolutely gorgeous - just adore this song so much - Elvis's s voice is just phenomenal on this song starting off slow and low and building up to the wonderful crescendo - it's Elvis at his best and I love listening to it with the sound up - just amazing and I just wish there were more versions to listen to 🎵💙🎶

Couldn't make it for the live but it's on a loop now... The simple piano-harmonium-drums dominated arrangement of the early takes is mint. I'd give all of Jarvis' brass- vocals-strings layers for this chord on the 1st Sylvia in the 1st chorus at 2:50 with the piano sobbing...
