I got Gomexus into our tackle shop and the most impressive thing I’ve seen ( besides their quality) was that all the knobs that come pre installed on their handles were perfectly shimmed from the factory. Good attention to detail.
@@Tyler-kw9ce I think they have tutorials on UA-cam. Did you get the full metal handle with the hexagonal washer? If so that’s really the only one that matters. Any questions, hit me up.
This. This type of granular detail for handle knob play works better than any birth control. I have no risk of getting anyone pregnant so long as I lead every convo with handle knobs. Great video as always 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
We call it a "Dutch Fit" when the tolerance of a shaft that a bearing is being pressed onto is slightly loose, using a small punch and peen the surface where the bearing seats. The dimple the punch mark creates will end up slightly higher than the surface of the original shaft. You may have to do several punches around the entire shaft. The shaft is tapered because the end is not supported while being machined, the pressure of the cutting tool moving slightly faster than it is removing material. Good Luck, love the channel !
I was shown a method of increasing outside diameter or inside diameter of things like this by a technician I worked with early in my career. He would take a center punch and a hammer making punches around the circumference. Proved to me that although you are making dents with the punch, the material has to go somewhere so the outside of the punched material goes up. I have used this successfully for bearing support surfaces of inner and outer races many times over the years since.
Yep! Had the same issue with my TAT had to go with a Daiwa Knob to work. A busing the combined length of the spacer and bearing should take the "lean" out.
Another issue I found with the rubber knobs was that the outer sheath of rubber is not adhered to the inner barrel and if it spins on that barrel, it can loosen your knob cap and you’ll pull the whole sleeve off.
Gomexus stuff is great for the price. They even reply very quickly to questions and comments. They help me find a appropriate carbon fiber handle for my original calcutta 200.
Add the spacer for the Diawa handle between the bearing and the bearing pocket. This spaces the bearing closer handle shaft base and still takes up the end play
Dude I forgot why I love your videos and this one just reminded me you’re the only reviewer that takes the time to go this deep into details about everything! All hail team Neurotic perfectionists! 🙌🫡💪👊
I think I might have a few answers to toss around. First, you won't like... drape some crazy glue gel around the 0.05 gap (a bit on the shaft) and the Fkr sit for 2 hours in a warm spot. Assemble the handle the rest of the way. Once that glue is dry and not misshapen by testing it too soon, it really can't fall out because the tolerance is too tight. Second idea; run a piece of dental floss parallel against the shaft and drop the bearing over it and pull the floss as you push down the bearing. That Johnson n Johnson "mint waxed" is probably ideal. "I floss my bearings. Shutup." Third idea; it's nasty but it can work. Squeeze the base of your shaft... with a toothy... set of pliers with the splined edges biting out the aluminum with raised roughness that fills the space. It's likely to last. But really, the first attempt should be the cyanoacrylate glue-gel, or even the rubberized type, and if it doesn't work, it's removable with acetone. A 0.05 tolearance is a sweaty fingerprint thick. You might consider an epoxy or JB weld, (use a ghost thin coating to fill it. Once you get it tight, the only play (rocking) you'll have left is between the bearings and the raceways. Been fixing and fishing reels since I'm 9, so I've gotten jiggy with it, as I've often seen you do, too. Fun to think about! What do you think of those ideas??
Those are all very good ideas, conceptually....Where it becomes difficult is the .05 becomes .025 when you have to accommodate for the fact it's a sleeve on a cylinder. So now you have to get really fine. I just received yesterday another Gomexus care package..handles with knobs pre installed...and they wobble just like this...Shimming is perfection....Gotta look at them and see if it's the post's diameter being too narrow. I have some 1/8" wide mylar tape that may actually fit the bill....boy would that be a awesome!
@@TackleAdvisors I'm fairly sure then, that the tolerance-play is in their bearings. I thought all the play was just between the shaft and cylinder race. I used to work in a Boeing parts mfg plant and the ball-bearings were so tight, I couldn't even rotate them with my fingers, let alone feel any side play. If the new Gomex knobs wobble, chances are there's more play in the bearings than around the shaft. But you can test that out on your bearing installer to see the wobble play in isolation. The problem with BBs in the handles is dirt exposure and premature wear if unsealed. For a guy who doesn't vibe with BB under the spool, then why the handle? Feel? A system of 2 or 3 bushing sleeves, each inserted interior to its larger (Russian dolls) and then sealed by screwing the handle on, would be more solid than dim sum bearings in some damn knob. (Good one?) And, the mylar tape is going to catch n crush away, like pulling down socks. Crazy glue that bastard. Insert the BB onto shaft, dribble glue down the side of the shaft to trickle into the gap, filling it. Grease the bottom to prevent glue leakage. Dry 2 hours. Try it. I don't know where your other 0.025 come into play. Keep the faith!
Where did you add the extra bearing on the shaft? Did you put the bushing on first then 2 bearings followed by the knob/handle, then a 3rd bearing followed by the screw? Or did you replace the bushing with the extra bearing you added?
Your channel is the best. Since watching and changing out Shimano handle knobs to Gomexus, it has changed my fishing! If you don’t like it, I’m not buying it!

Ok, don't know how this is applicable. The guys I work with fit bearings into shafts for large electric motors. When the bearings are new out of the box they are too small to fit over the shaft. They put the bearings into a machine that heats them up with some sort of electro magnetic induction. The thermal expansion allows the bearing to fit over the shaft. They are positioned correctly and when they cool down they are snug in place, you physically cannot move them. I don't know how they get them off again as I have not seen that side. I always wondered if the tech could be scaled down. What do you think?
If i'm not mistaken that's how many of the 2 piece gears are assembled.....whether it be fishing reels or power tools...so I assume it could be....it's possible that's how some of the knob posts are fit to the handles..unless it's just a standard press fit which is likely. I don't think you'd want to not be able to remove the bearing though.

Gomexus will give you a free handle shaft (with a truer diameter from end to end), then that can be installed on your Certate LT, but you’d have to drill out your reel’s stock handle shaft to get it off, then install Gomexus’ shaft with a supplied screw. Okuma NTS-S-904M Nomad Travel Surf Rod - 9 ft
I've only heard second hand through forum posts that it gets the job done....That's about all I can offer on it.
@@TackleAdvisors thanks for taking the time to reply. I enjoy your youtube work. Somehow I've missed your new opportunity source. Who is the company? Merry Christmas 🎄
don't act like buying a $200 DRT handle is ridiculous when you have $1000 reels.
MANTAB SIR.I AM Not speak inggris bos
Wrap a piece of scotch tape around the shaft
That's waaay too thick. . 05mm is hair thickness
Where I get them reel handle bearings and shims? I only have Shimano’s
With gomexus you get bearings and shims but the bearings aren't so good. If you want the handle to spin like his you need to buy aftermarket or buy stella bearings.
@@lukapera3765 thanks that’s what I was wanting is the bearings, thanks
plumbers tape
Put the old nob back on
Let’s goooooooo nice way to start a week out
Agg, can't find the right amount/combo of shims for installing the fat knobs on my daiwa sv coastal. The gomexus instructions are terrible. They repeat the same picture and instructions for penn, shimano, daiwa and abu reels.
I think it's mainly just the thick shimming bushing that makes the differences and why they repeat
I was the 100 person to hit the like button
You have Ernie I know he can make bushing to help that bearing to be stable😜
Paint the shaft
At least my mom doesn't. haha.
LOLOL
And let's go again :)
