While the design has potential. And it's impressive.
The amount of failures I'm seeing means improvements are needed for this to be ready for the big time.
In this video I detail the good the bad, highlight the interesting, and point out areas that could use some improvement. As well as areas that need more time to evaluate.

I like most of what I see. But I think the drag design is overcomplicated and I thought the audible clicker looked weak even before you said it failed. I still think the real Van Staal's (not the VR) are the most bullet proof/reliable sealed reels. The clicker on the Van Staal is beefy and I have unbelievable confidence in my VSB with its German made instant anti reverse and the industrial grade oil seals that keep it dry on the inside. Not to mention the main gear of the Van Staal is much larger than this Visser. But maybe these Visser reels have a smoother drag. That's probably where it's better. But I don't mind a sticky drag because I can 100% rely on the reel otherwise. To me, this Visser is too delicate to be used as a sealed reel. The Visser is a nice reel for using on a boat.

The body on the reel is cast, 3 flimsy bolted fail areas when fighting a fish, stella and saltiga an are solid machined alloy. I’ve swam with my old expedition saltiga 2005 and new saltiga mq without water ingress. Tried that with my Stella and Saragossa which filled with water. That is a tiny drag stack, the whole reel looks weak, given the seal points I bet it leeks like a sieve

Thanks my friend yea if your spending 500 to 700 bills on a reel then the reel should be perfect out of the box. That's my fear spending big bucks for a reel to have issues out of the box is inexcusable. The reel that was perfect out of the bag was my siegler surf reel. I like this reel you just broke down but I'm afraid of the issues out of the box. How is the customer service at visser?

I"m with you......hence while I do recommend it....It's with caution. One gentlemen had water intrusion (posted about it an hour before I posted this video(otherwise I'd have included it) He contacted Visser on Thanksgiving. Rob K (one of the 2 owners) replied within the hour. He's sending his reel in for repair or replacement.....I emailed them the day I got my reel...After 9pm. I received an email response within minutes...(he listed the wrong zipcode in his reply...and a follow up correction by another team member was received in minutes after that....) It appears all hands are on deck at Visser. They want to get this one right.

Catalina from daiwa had 3 bearing support on the pinion in the early 2000. They didn’t do it for the saltiga due to binding and rough feeling issues, the bearing was moved to the spool shaft instead which gives greater support. After all, the anti reverse is a huge bearing so why bother adding a 4th. Things will change quickly once past mistakes will come to life again. Any seals placed in areas exposed to salt or sand always fail, movement, flex and grit, inevitable, reason shimano suck. Seals before magnetic oils, works better than I ever could conceive. Once the patent runs out all companies will shift to that technology

Its the oscillation gear cog binding up in the slider...Ima guess its happenning every time the rotor gets to its top most position on the spool when its winding. Careful or the cog will break off the gear if you keep fishing it like that

It is a bit of touchy design... cheaper to replace just the base if it breaks, but more likely to be a weak set-up... is it just going to break at/around the mounting screws? The way things are designed and analyzed for stresses, I'm sure it's built to withstand a lot of abuse.
