    You can add markings by 'Electrochemical etching' method, pretty simple and only needs a car battery!

    Questions:
    1. Why a stainless HERMS coil (vs Copper) and how did you drill the holes to mount?
    2. SInce your Strike Water (HLT) tank contains the Stainless HERMS coil, have you ever had Wort leak into the HLT?
    3. What / Where did you procure your whirlpool arm and what capacity (flow) is it?
    4. Have you considered a 4th (MLT) tank for Wort recirculation in your HERMS coil rather than using HLT?
    Thanks! (good demo)

    What drove you to move from kegs to pots since you didn’t go beyond 15 gallons?

    Great video. Where did you get that whirlpool arm?

    I’m seeing this well after you made it, have you already sold your kegs from old system? I’d be interested in buying them if you still have them.

    Again. Beautiful set it. Still waiting on parts list and plumbing diagram for us beginners as it looks so complicated what connection goes where at any given point.
    Thx in advance

    Hi Tony. I am looking into creating a very similar setup to yours shown in this video. I really like this system, and am wondering if you ever documented the various parts needed. Any chance you can send details on the needed valves, camlocks, bulkheads, etc?
    Really nice setup, sir!

      Dennis Glover I second that....
      a parts breakdown and possibly the sources of where they can be purchased would be appreciated..

      I tried to replicate this as close as possible. It took a while to figure out what I needed but I think I got pretty close. I bought the following:
      Items from ebay.com
      9 - 1/2 NPT Full Port Ball Valve Female Threaded Vinyl Handle (ebay)
      1 - False Bottom with 3/8 barb (ebay)
      3 - 3" Weldless Thermometer for Home Brew Kettle 6" Probe (ebay)
      1 - 3" Weldless Thermometer For Home Brew Kettle 2.5" Probe (ebay)
      2 - MKII High Temp Magnetic Drive Pump (or chugger pump) (ebay)
      3 - Bayou Classic sq14 (ebay)
      1 - 1/2 OD Wort Chiller Conversion Kit Tubing to Garden Hose Fitting
      50ft - 1/2 Copper
      Items from StainlessBrewing.com
      2 - 1/2 Type A Camlock
      9 - 1/2 Type F Camlock
      1 - 1/2 Threaded T
      1 - 1/2 Threaded 90
      2 - 1/2 High Flow 90
      1 - 1/2 x 5/8 SS KC Nipple
      1 - 1/2 Hose Barb x 1/2 Female NPT threads
      1 - 1/2 Weldless Whirlpool Kit
      6 - 1/2 x 2 Bulkhead with NPT ends
      2 - 1/2 Compression x 1/2 Male NPT
      1 - 1/2 x 50' Herms 10" Coil with 2 bends 1/2 OD 304 HERMS
      3ft - 3/8 ID x 1/2 OD Economy Silicone Tubing
      25ft - 1/2 Premium Translucent Silicone Tubing
      Craigslist.com
      3 - Keggles or Kettles
      I just ordered so I haven't put it all together but I think it will work good.
      I cheaped out on Sparge, he has a Blichman Auto Sparge, im going to rig up some tubing.
      I also cheaped out on the pickup tube for Boil Kettle. StainlessBrewing makes a nice 135 Degree tube bend (also needs a 1/2 Compression x 1/2 Female NPT) but I just did a Stainless elbow with a 1/2 nipple.
      Also, his Whirlpool arm looks AWESOME! I tried to find it but couldn't so I went with stainlessbrewing.com's whirlpool arm.
      It all gets expensive quickly but I moved from Oregon to Utah and i miss craft beer! If you can't buy it, brew it!

    I really like your system. I'm currently building something similar, but a bit simpler. I don't have a second pump so I'm not recirculating the water in the HLT when I mash. I'm going to have to stir the water in the HLT, I assume to keep the temperature consistent. Also, I'm curious as to why you use an immersion chiller. Did you consider filling your HTL with ice and recirculating your wort from your brew kettle through there in order to chill it?

    • @tdiplacito
      @tdiplacito  7 років тому

      I usually run double batches, one mashing while the other is boiling. I have used the HERMS coil to chill at an aha national brew day, it worked really well, but cleaning was kind of a nightmare. Even after hours of pbw and thinking the coils clean, there was an odor out of them on the next brew day.

    How long are your tubing for each kettle and pumps

  • @JohnWhite84
    @JohnWhite84 7 років тому

    As much money as you have in that setup you should do yourself a favor and add another pump, or build a manifold to avoid all the hose swapping and spilling. It only took me a few times getting burned before I made the change.

  • @joaonetobenevides

    Mate, how do you chill? In your last system you said about your chiller. How do you normally do? After the chiller you pump back to the whirlpool until you reach the temp you want let it settle and transfer to the fermenter? cheers

    • @tdiplacito
      @tdiplacito  7 років тому

      I'm still using the MoreBeer Whirlpool chiller, but instead of using the whirlpool arm on the chiller, I'm using the arm on the kettle

      Have you tried to chill using the HLT running the wort through the herms circulator and fill HLT with ice and water

  • @RaymondMillbrae
    @RaymondMillbrae 5 років тому

    Do you have to have 2 pumps? Couldn’t you do it with only one pump?

    • @Chogogo717
      @Chogogo717 4 роки тому

      Raymond Moreno only if you batch sarge, but he fly sparges. One pump is used to transfer the hot water from the hot liquor tank to the mash tun through the Auto Sparge float valve, and the other pump transfers the sweet wort from the mash tun to the boil kettle.

    Great setup Tony, looking at something similar, like the idea of running your wort into the kettle via the Whirlpool. Speaking of Whirlpool, i assume you whirlpool once cooled (immersion chiller has been removed) are you still running an immersion chiller or moved to counterflow or plate system?

    Do you have a parts list that you could share? I've seen the question asked but haven't saw a response.
    I am in the process of building my cart to replicate this setup on converted kegs and would like to be sure I have all the pieces.

    What brand/size pots are you using and where did you purchase them? Curious how much for the pots (you say they were quite cheap)? Also curious how much $ you have approximately in this whole setup? Looks awesome BTW! Would love to build one identically to this actually! :)

    • @tdiplacito
      @tdiplacito  8 років тому

      The pots are Adventures In Homebrewing 2 weld 15 gallon pots. They're $119 a piece.

      Really like your new setup! Curious what your reason was to switch from your previous version and using kegs to the new brew pots?

    • @tdiplacito
      @tdiplacito  8 років тому

      +Forest Passineau The whole point of the system was to be ultra portable. These pots weight about 16lbs, less then half of a keggle, and are also much easier to clean.

    I really thought that English people where driving to the left and that's it. But you have the boil kettle on the left. That is the same as the English. The wrong side. But, nice HERMS though.
