      @@MrBigL100 a Maersk EEE is built with as much air in the middle as possible, to enable it to carry as much cargo as possible. Thats its role.
      A star destroyer on the other hand, if the designers see a large space of air, they will fill it with something more useful to a star destroyers role. IE armour plate.
      If you stripped all the armour plate off the star destroyer and just gave it a hull made of tin, it would be able to carry a lot more than a container ship.....

    Have to agree. The Lucrehulk is a leftover from a bygone age of overall greater wealth and prosperity. Though technologically less impressive, it was born in an era where throwing lots of money at a problem was always an option and it's just built really really well with no expenses spared. The MC80, one of my favorites too, is smarter, leaner, and pound for pound tougher, but the Lucrehulk just has sooo many more pounds...

It's well armed, and it makes up for it's proportionately few weapons for it's size by it's ability to carry an entire self-contained planetary invasion force. If filled with an offensive load out of nothing but hyena bombers and vulture droids, it's sheer carrying capacity could overwhelm the enemy.

    Droid star fighters are actually VERY maneuverable. The reason theyre so deadly is purely because they can pull off maneuvers that normally kill sentient pilots. Ive read this in a few searches. Theyre usually deployed in swarm tactics which overwhelm enemy forces. The only downside is that they arent as intuative as sentient pilots and they dont have shielding, which you dont really need because the sheer numbers make up for that. The vulture droid offers quite a lot.

    Just a note, due to deficiencies of the Vulture starfighter, their solid state fuel slugs means they can only fly for fifteen minutes at a time. Thus they were deployed in waves as the previous fighters returned to keep up momentum. This was later rectified during the Clone Wars, but this is pre-Clone Wars so there would be around 500 per wave.

    The Lucrehulk releasing all of its droid starfighters would be like attacking your opponent with an angry swarm of bees. You can kill a lot, but their numbers will eventually overwhelm you.
    Interestingly the Lucrehulk would actually be a very good ship for the Rebel Alliance, since they rely heavily on their fighters and a single Lucrehulk could easily carry and maintain several hundred X-Wings, Y-Wings, A-Wings and so on. Those things are massive and it would provide the Rebels with a mobile base to launch from and to retreat to.

    • @demicus
      @demicus 3 роки тому +2

      I believe in one of the comics, they had a rebel faction that controlled one of these. And as I recall, it was basically used as a space station and training facility more than a battleship or carrier, simply because of how incredibly expensive it was to maintain in battle readiness. The Trade Federation had essentially bottomless resources to call upon, the Rebels did not. Not to mention, without the droid crew, it would take many thousands of people to operate, and most rebel cells at the time had at most a few hundred active members.
      Still, if you could supply it, repair it, and could retain a good chunk of the droid crew to handle basic operations, it would have been a hell of a place to run a rebel cell.

    I don't think the MC80 has any chance at winning, remember, the droid control ship in the movie was controlling all the droid forces on the ground and around the planet, including 99 other Lucrehulk ships slaved to it.
    Un-slaved, un-distracted and focused on a single threat a single droid control ship could dedicate all of it's processing power into it's fighters, and in the cross sections it says those vulture droids flew with precision that matched Jedi in skill.
    Lucrehulk = 1,500 Star fighters
    MC80 = 120 Star fighters /Hodge podge/mix
    12.5 to 1 in favor of the Lucrehulk
    Some of the MC80 fighters might survive the first wave but the bombers barely make it out of the hanger before being swamped, if not kamikazeed into oblivion.
    Fighters and bombers get picked off and the numbers disparity grows more staggering very quickly.
    Wave #1 1-4 rebel star fighters are taken out 120/4 = 30 down 30x3 = 90 still in action. 4-12.5 droid fighters taken out {killing more than 2 in a head on engagement would be considered a miracle under the best of circumstances}
    Leaves us at
    Lucrehulk = 1,000
    MC80 = 90
    11.111111111111111111111111111111 to 1 in favor of Lucrehulk.....

      Plus the fact the Lucrehulk can launch its fighters absurdly fast compared to the MC80. Chances are by the time the MC80 gets half of its fighters out it is already swarmed by a thousand droid fighters. The rebel fighters will fall very quickly to the sheer number of attackers and the MC80 won't have a chance to attack the Lucrehulk for the same reason.

      You have to realize that the MC-80 can launch all their ships in a couple of seconds. They have over twenty hangars (3 main ones), all that can open at the same time with speed, and have their infinitely superior starfighters go out and obliterate the droids as they miserably, worthlessly try to come out for the ships. The Y-wings get in position to launch proton torpedoes and proton bombs continuously, giving no mercy to these worthless droids. The Y-wings' Ion turrets one-shot the droids attempting to engage them. One torpedoes to the hang and the entire freighter is dead. I think the MC-80 has a valid chance at this.

    • @justsoicanfingcomment5814
      @justsoicanfingcomment5814 4 роки тому

      @@sithacolol5337 You forget that the droids can stream constantly out of the 8 main hanger blast doors and dozens of ancillary hanger doors in seconds... So that argument is invalid and the Lucrehulk still out matches the MC-80 in deployment speed.
      Ion cannons on Y-wings are short range and were present en mass during the clone wars so a hand full of operational Y-wing Ion cannons will not create any significant advantage overall.
      "infinitely superior starfighters" you say, note that those old droids fighters were more than a match for modern TIE fighters when the 501st dropped on the Mygeetan droid factory.
      So that argument is invalid. "vulture droids flew with precision that matched Jedi in skill."

  • @striker2588
    @striker2588 6 років тому +2

    Biggest problem I have with this battle simulation is that the Lucrehulk may have a lot of fighters but they can only control so many at one time. This is why there were so many droid fighters sitting around in the hanger (this would great reduce the number of active combat fighters) and the Lucrehulk also had capability to carry droid bombers like the Hyena class bomber which is a Vulture droid fighter variant. Then if you did take the episode 1 variant to heart then it may not have been able to carry as many fighters to battle because to the extensive amounts of ground troops needed and used. On the starfighter side both had very different abilities with the droid fighters having NO shields and the rebel fighters all being heavily shielded. There were some x-wings squadrons in legends that were able to get large amount of kills (in some cases double digit kills) with low losses against tie fighters that were similar to droid fighters with having No or limited shields so I believe this was unnecessarily favored to the Lucrehulk when it should have been split or more given to the MC80. The biggest swing or liability factor in this fight would truly be that the Lucrehulk using droid fighters and the MC80 (and the associated bombers) using Ion weapons in large amounts which could and would be the Achilles heel of the Lucrehulk. This is because we have seen time and time again an Ion cannons or bombs disabling a capitol ship in legends and in Canon (I referring to Episode 5, 6, and Rogue One being the most notable with episode 6 actually partly disabling a Super Star Destroyer's shields with Ion weapons). If a flight of Y-wings or one of the Ion Cannons were to render the Lucrehulk incapacitated the fighters would suffer greatly by decreased oversight of the command ship or would completely be put out of combat like the droids were at the end of episode 1 and the Lucrehulk would also lose its biggest defense it's shields as well. But if the Ion weapons were not able to that lucky with a full power down of the Lucrehulk it could still land a Ion hit and knock out it's shields which would still be a huge swing to the bombers of the MC80.

  • @SheathEntertainment
    @SheathEntertainment 7 років тому +12

    I really like your comparison here, however if the Alliance's MC80 went up against one of the later Clone War variants of the Lucrehulk, the probability of most, if not all battles won ,would be most certain in the Separatist favor. Reason why is its arrangement upgrades:
    RING CARRIER
    Point-defense Quad laser batteries: (164)
    Assault laser cannons: (472)
    Turbo lasers: (48)
    Upgraded Shielding
    CORE SHIP
    Point-defense quad laser batteries (21)
    Assault laser cannons (48)
    Turbolasers (3)
    Upgraded Shielding
    The shielding before the Clone Wars upgrade was super strong, making the change afterwards overkill for defense. All that plus its massive droid army force onboard that could deploy droid dispensers to the MC80's hangar bays. It took a Death Star (in the Legends Universe) to get rid of this ship entirely when the Rebels had one.

Its also capable of carrying more cargo and with its huge communication array it can function better for command and control. Plus as you mentioned it's also a great carrier. The Home 1 is basically just a large cruiser with a decent fighter contingent.

    It's really rather odd just how blatantly superior Clone Wars ships are including a few prewar ones like the Lucrehulk in this video are to the capital ships of the Galactic Civil War. Even taking into account the general inferiority of most of the Trade Federation/Confederacy units to anything produced in the GCW era, a Lucrehulk like this one would be able to take on an entire fleet of Star Destroyers pretty easily just through fighter spamming alone, wiping out the SD fleet's TIE fighter screen through sheer numbers of Vulture Droids before then kamikaze the SD fleet to oblivion likely before the SD fleet can even get close enough to engage them with their own turbolasers, and it's shields are strong enough to last a long barrage by said Star Destroyers long enough that the lesser amount of turbolaser fire the Lucrehulk has is effectively negated.
    Then there's the 150,000 battle droids and hundreds of ground vehicles in addition to the capability of the Vulture Droids to act as light tanks, compared to the Imp II's 9,500 Stormtroopers and measly 6 minimum ground vehicles, while still possessing the amount of turbolasers needed to bombard a planet from orbit if need be fairly effectively, which makes it easily as effective at subjugating planets than that SD fleet is. That's just the premilitarized version, the ones in the actual Clone Wars have more effective starfighters like the Droid Tri-fighter and dedicated bombers like the Hyena-class that the Lucrehulk that is in this vid doesn't have while having even more ground vehicles and battle droids that make the odds even more insanely stacked against the fleet of Star Destroyers.

      1 v 2 or 3? No, just no, the Lucrehulk cannot hold off against that much firepower, sure the Lucrehulk can survive fire from flotillas of Venators but have you compared the weapons of a Venator to an ISD? An ISD alone has a least 3 Venators worth of firepower, the Lucrehulk would evaporate under that kind of fire. Also that's using the ISD 1 numbers, if you use the ISD 2 there's no comparison.
      As for fighters I am not sure, if it's just one destroyer it's gonna be destroyed before it can kill the Lucrehulk but against two one would die while the other kills the Lucrehulk.

    An interesting thing about this battle is the location of the Lucrehulk's turboblaster batteries. Due to the fact that they are all mounted on the ring around the core and the Lucrehulk has crap mobility then you could simply position the MC80 above the Lucrehulk and have it blast the core while cycling energy in it's shields to cope with the few turboblasters not mounted on the ring.

From Wookieepedia: Lucrehulk-class battleships that fought in the Clone Wars had less trouble with weak spots, as they were augmented with gun batteries and much stronger shielding. Batteries of long gunsand heavy guns complemented the additional quad turbolaser batteries added to the Lucrehulk superstructure when the war erupted.[13][14]Each ship was also now so powerful due to the increased amount of power devoted to offensive and defensive systems that a whole flotilla of Republic Star Destroyers was needed just to bring down a Lucrehulk's shields.

    The best tactic for taking out a Lucrehulk would be from behind, since its engines seem less well protected. Coming in from above would mean that all of its turbolasers on the upper side could converge on one target, basically tearing it to pieces. The same would apply to attacking from below. Head-on would only allow the forward facing turbolasers to fire. Its donut shape design results in it having very few blind spots. Compare that to the wedge shape of a Star Destroyer, which can never really maximize its firepower on one target. Facing forward means that the turbolasers at the back can't really fire and striking a target from orbit means that the turbolasers on the upper surface are useless. And the Star Destroyer is a dedicated warship, while the Lucrehulk is basically a converted transport ship.

    Honestly I think I'd give the nod to the MC80 here as the droid fighters are unshielded and would have to swarm the MC80 could fire randomly in all directions and take out numerous enemies and the shielded rebel starfighters would be able to destroy multiple ships per run while being able to shrug off multiple hits. The other thing not mentioned in the battle is the MC80's ion cannons. On top of being able to disable dozens of unshielded starfighters per shot they also give the MC80 a huge advantage in taking down the lucrehulk's shields in the battle.

      On top of which, the MC-80's commander wouldn't notice intermittent control of the droid starfighters when the Command Ship gets hit by Ion Cannons? Ion Cannons canonically disrupt electronic systems on the targeted ships, and all the Command Ship is in essence is a control center for all those drones.

      You are all forgeting 2 important things. First: Vulture droids are unshielded yes, but they are fully autonomus not controled, they also have some of the best brains of all the droids in star wars universe meaning they coud adapt and learn wery quickly plus they had guaided missiles. And second:Lucrehulk woudn´t be carring just vultures but also tri-fighters(which were far superior to vultures or even tie-fighters in dog fight) but also Hyena bombers, that would blow the hell out of Home one. (By the way do you know that all droid fighters are programed to go KAMIKAZI when damaged?)

    • @bogustoast22none25
      @bogustoast22none25 6 років тому +3

      While vultures are indeed some of the smartest, they aren't really adaptable, it's shown time and time again that pilots who pull unorthodox tactics are able to take down the vultures because they can't seem to follow those maneuvers.
      However they are indeed autonomous, fast, and while unshielded they do make up for it in firepower.
      Add in the whole swarm tactic. During the opening salvo against rebel starfighters, both sides will take horrendous losses, as they'll be firing back and forth with torpedoes and lasers. This is bad for the rebels because they will lose morale as they see their friends being popped while the droids won't mind.
      The main difference being that vultures have buzz droids, which will attach and continue to sabotage rebel fighters that make it off the original opening salvo.
      Honestly a single vulture isn't that much of a problem, against trained pilots, rebel pilots however have different degree of training and will struggle with them, causing massive losses.
      So based on morale, skills, and numbers, the vultures will be outpacing the rebel star fighters even if they can't adapt to their supposedly innovative tactics which will be performed rarely by only the veteran pilots and only when the veterans have the space to do it after the numbers on both sides dwindle to allow space around them to perform such tactics.
      Overall I have to agree with eck, the lukrehulk simply has too many fighters to be easily taken down.

    • @mr5yy
      @mr5yy 6 років тому

      bogustoast22 none You’re forgetting a couple of things thought. These would be the original vulture droids, so they wouldn’t be very well armed and there would be no buzz droids, as those wouldn’t be invented for a few years still. Vulture droids in Episode 1 still did relay on the Droid control ship, so if the Rebels did notice ion disruptions to the core ship, they would have a pretty good chance at taking it out.

    • @bogustoast22none25
      @bogustoast22none25 6 років тому +1

      mr5yy
      It may be because I have a bias towards Droid swarm tactics, but being able to simply overwhelm the enemy with numbers is in of itself a great go to tactic, specially when you don't really lose anyone, allowing for far more aggressive tactics while the rebels will be losing years of experience with every fighter loss.
      To add flame to the fire, while ion cannons are effective, it's only when in range, and we know that usually fighters meet each other in the middle before the ships are within range or one another, so on the usual combat scenario it would be fighter v fighter then the survivors add their assistance to the ship, as such, rebel fighters and bombers must face and defeat the swarm of droids or try to bypass them in order to fire directly on the ship and disable it (hence disabling the droid fighters) as such, it will be near impossible to pull off, as the droids, even without buzz droids, can simply shoot the Y wings as they are slow, and battle it out with B wings, A wings and X wings. At which point overwhelming tactics come into effect.

      I don't think so, the MC90 was the first Mon Cal ship designed specifically for warfare instead of being a luxury or colony ship refitted for combat.
      It has 75 turbolasers, 30 ion cannons, 6 proton torpedo launchers, and 72 assorted starfighters.
      It's specifically stated that the MC90 has the firepower required to challenge an Imperial-class Star Destroyer. And given the general superiority of Rebel starfighters over their Imperial counterparts, I think they'd be able to punch their way through and help attack the Imperial II.
      I do agree the Imperial II has a lot of firepower, especially with those octuple barbette turbolasers/ion cannons, but I think this would be a fairly even fight if the ships went head to head with their typical configurations

      Victory 1 is the same power scale as a venator essentially so just put a venator against a providence and you have an answer

    Fun fact: In the Republic at War mod from Empire at War, the level 5 space station for the seperatists was in fact a Lucrehulk-class.

      A BC304 Deadelus class vs Imperial Star Destroyer would totaly depend on when and which ship.
      if it was an early BC304 the ISD would stand a chance, if it was the Odyssey with the ZPM then the ISD would be unable to penetrate the sheilds, if it was any 304 with the post SG1 Asgard upgrades including the plasma beams then the ISD stands no chance, even it it was an Eclypse class unless it managed to land a hit with the superlaser.

    EckhartsLadder, i think you should be able to look at the ships more subjectively. Even you claim that you want to give a category to a ship just because you like it more. I think this is not a good way to look at these battles. You are currently what i've seen, biased towards Rebel ships even thought pretty much all of them lose 10/10 times when competing wth their imperial counterparts.

    One thing I think you overlook about the droid fighters are: They could be swapped out for a compliment of Trifighters, or other drone ships. Droid ships would also be able to do maneuvers that a human simply cannot without knocking themselves out from the G-Forces, in addition to having a smaller profile than an X-Wing, making them more comparable to a bunch of A-wings, but lacking the need for life support systems.
    Another advantage the Lucrehulk has: It requires only a crew of 150-300 to be fully manned, compared to the home one's minimum crew of 1230.
    They were also relatively cheap for their specifications at only 40 million credits, compared to an imperial star destroyer at 150 million.

    Have you done a Juggernaut (AV-6? H-6?) vs AT-AT matchup yet? That would be cool.
    Also, a separatist corvette vs Republic corvette cold be really cool too. Or frigates if they don't have corvettes on hand 😅

    If I do want to have a Carrier Battle Fleet it will be that Trade Fed Battle ship, with an MC Heavy Carrier and multiple Venator Star Destroyers. And corvette support against star fighters

    The kyramud-type battleship vs the borrower class dreadnought, both old republic & would be cool to see the best old imperial ship vs the best mandalorian ship at the height of their respective powers
