Do love the breakdowns! Some of the flaws of the design were mostly due to them being converted from passenger liners. The ship was a broadside vessel, which meant it could only bring half it's guns to bear on a single target at a time. Whereas an ISD facing forwards could bring virtually all it's guns beyond the rear arc to fire for brutally effective barrages. Given they were broadside vessels, this also meant that the hangars were vulnerable to concentrated fire which made launching and recovering starfighters over combat was extremely dangerous. Also until after the Battle of Endor due to the ships being made primarily for Mon Calmari physiology repairing them was extremely difficult due to the unique nature of parts intended for them and the small number of technicians who were fluent with them. Very few shipyards the Alliance had could do more than basic repairs on them, and virtually only the shipyards on Mon Cala could build them, which meant very few were capable of being fielded. But they were virtually the only ship in the Alliance Navy that could go toe to toe with Imperial class Star Destroyers and survive (or sometimes win) which made them desperately necessary. Going by Legends you have the Battle of Turkana (the debut of the X-Wing fighter in combat) where 7 MC-80 variants drove off 11 ISD's with only a few squadrons of X-Wing and Y-Wings with them, that eliminated the Imperial fighter screen and left the ISD's vulnerable to a crossfire.

i don't think that "MC-80" should refer to anything other than Rebel Mon Cal Cruisers equipped with the Advanced Rebel 80 series reactor core. Basically, it was developed by the Rebels so they could convert the MonCal Merchant and exploration fleet into a first-rate battle fleet. First they cut out sections for installation of an "MC-80" reactor then after installation they would fitt out the ship appropriately for its role in the Rebel Fleet. Some were used as frontal Battlecruisers, others as Battle Carriers (like Home 1) Since Moncal Ships came in so many varieties ships were basically custom built but they all had the MC-80 reactor in command that allowed very powerful shielding and Turbo Laser support. They Key to the MC-80 line was the MC-80 reactor was superior to the older type model used on ISD Is and ISD II (it was in fact a heavily upgraded version of a pre-clone Wars reactor) After the destruction of Alderan and the destruction of the first Death Star the Empire lost virtually all political credit beyond fear and bribery. This is why the Rebels gained so much power in such a relatively short period as lots of first-rate scientists joined the Rebelion and many planets began to ""lose"" (donate) valvule resources and equipment, allowing the Rebellion to expand. Of course the Empire was still a very powerful force, but it could no longer rule by any kind of popular mandate and only through fear.
In X-Wing Alliance, it's name was the Independence. In my mind it was only titled Home-One when it was acting as the Rebel Alliance HQ with Mon Mothma and the other Rebel leaders, but it became synonymous with the ship particularly after Endor, so old rebel hands continued to refer to it as the honorific Home One even after it's call-sign changed back to the Independence.
Mon Calamari Cruisers are basically works of art, converted to warfare, but built to last. But realistically in terms of warfare, converting civilian vessels to war use, is only done out of desperation which was the case in the star wars universe. The Rebel Alliance couldn't afford to be picky, and an MC80 with its powerful armament and durable shields and hull was simply just too good to refuse. Like in Star Wars Rebels when Phoenix Squadron steals 3 hammerhead corvettes, its obvious, the Rebels took whatever they could get and that makes good practical sense. The MC80's "blisters" being breakaway lifeboats, seems like a good idea, but in truth it makes more handy to just use escape pods because a breakaway craft, would have to maintain its own engines and life support systems, and that would require more crew and resources to maintain. Remember, the more systems your ship has, all the more can go wrong. I would like to see more vids on the actual Mon Calamari Cruisers like the MC90's that were built strictly as warships.
Happened a little bit like in the 80s with for example, the Atlantic Conveyor being used as an aircraft carrier for Harriers in the Falklands or the Britannic being used as a hospital ship in WW1
The MC80 Home One ships gotta be one of my favorite ships. I do have to wonder though, what would happen if the Kamminoan cities wasn't destroyed by the Empire, and the Kamminoans joined the Rebellion, with a bunch of Venators, Acclamators and Kuat decided to say "eff it, let's join the Rebellion", while contributing the ships the clones were used to? I know, i know, it's an alternate Star Wars reality, but who would supply the Empire if Kuat decided to change team, and collaborate with the Mon Calas. I actually want to see a What If show, just like the one Marvel has, but for Star Wars. I do hope we get to see a movie where Kuat and the Mon Cala ship yard collaborates in a ship and for once is on the good side, together, helping the Republic Rey, Finn, Poe and the Resistance helped to rebuild and restore, during their war with the First and Final Order. We do after all know Star Wars EP 10, 11 and 12 is coming, so maybe we get to see Mon Cala Shipyards and Kuat Driveyards on the same side. I hope it happens
Nah even in Legends they were those sizes. They retconned those informations, because... I don't know. But you can find it on Wookiepedia or some other sources. Some prefer to give the Home One the size of around 3.000 metres. But the most sources use the 1.2 - 1.4 kilometres

I wonder if you'd ever be interested in covering some of the lego star wars ships. Obviously the lego sets themselves aren't really somethino cite for lore or information, less than even the action figures would be, and Lego Star Wars is definitely on the outermost run of "canon" in the franchise regardless of Disney's pretense of canon. But there's been a few Lego Star Wars shows and movies put out by this point, so it exists as a thing to consider. Mainly I just really like the Freemaker Adventures, which is about a group of salvagers who eventually join up with the rebels as repairmen and shipwrights, and I think there are some neat designs in there. (and ironically I don't think the tie-in lego sets are even very good anyways). I think season 2 where they're serving on the Home One servicing starfighters is kind of a neat perspective on the ship, even if it's all jokey and cartoony
Forgive my ignorance, but i believe i have seen pictures of these vessels being used as habitats under water before being used as war ships, the picture depicts them as almost tower blocks nestled amongst the fauna under water.
@@uridovitzgaming2281 Thats empire at war definitely, but with what mod? no sure. Can be Thrawn mod, or awakening of the rebellion or maybe some other.
The issue was they never mass produced their ships cause each ship even if in the same general line had so many custom features per ship. The ISDs were mass produced at KUAT. Sure a Mon Cal ship is way stronger then and ISD, but for every Mon Cal ship you make, they make 5 ISDs
There must have been a lot of open space! They are almost a mile long but only hold that of a modern aircraft carrier. 5000 personal and 120 fighter ships?

As much as i love the Mon Cal Cruisers and their unique design i always think that it is mere plot armor that a MC of any version is more powerful than any Star Destroyer. the ships are redesigned civil luxury cruisers. how could that compare to a ship that is specifically designed for space combat and intergalactic warfare? image telling anyone that the redesigned titanic would have been the most powerful battleship in WW1. you`d ask yourself "how on earth could that be ???" it couldn't. and i dont understand why there is so much effort to make the MCs the better ship instead of having the underdog story
1:40 it always makes me annoyed with stuff like crew counts in starwars. like this ship, It would probably need like 50,000 crew to operate, but it's only a couple of thousand . It just doesn't make sense, and it bugs me a lot.
A spaceship would be in likeness to a submarine crew. Small and well equipped to preform multiple different roles for the vessel. Also the federation gets passed this problem with having many many piolt Droids. Many of the larger spacecraft would also doubt less have programing to run half of the ship on its own.
They have literal AI. Like, they actively have components capable of a level of intelligence and self sufficiency that we do not. Their crew sizes are going to be significantly lower as a result.
Lets just admit what we all know. The root of all problems in the Star Wars universe is religion. The war between the Jedi and the Sith is the true conflict, with everyone else just pawns. Without them, the Empire is certainly not evil and more or less a human peace keeping force, protecting trade and human interests and in fact are generally quite polite soldiers on the ground just doing their jobs altruistically and professionally. The rebels by and large are just terrorists, and with the Jedi and Sith gone, there is no reason for their existence.

I love hearing you do the beloved Mon Calamari ships #MetaNerdz
I attended a nerf herder conference on an old home one. Some of the nerfs got into the water passages. It was fun.
Home One (and her three sister ships) was twice the size of an ISD until Disney started screwing things up.
Nah even in Legends they were those sizes. They retconned those informations, because... I don't know. But you can find it on Wookiepedia or some other sources. Some prefer to give the Home One the size of around 3.000 metres. But the most sources use the 1.2 - 1.4 kilometres
@@EddieCorsis9398that started around the time feloni was getting going, and while it was before the buyout, it's still definitely more a part of the Disney era than what came before.
@@wordwyrd The stats making it 1.2 and 1.3 km began long before Disney.
But yes, 3.1 to 3.8 km is what evidence based on the hangar interior keep pointing to.
Even in the Ahsoka show.
The thing is that old printed stats keep getting recycled.
Even the new encyclopaedia book gives the wrong length for the Hammerhead corvette.
My life has been a complete and total misery ever since a Wookiee stole my precious girlfriend in the middle of the night. 😒 He even took all her clothes and the T.V. 😔
Cry about it
@chewbacca3269 🥺🥺🥺
Even the TV? Now that's just cruel.
@@Alpha_Digamma 😢😢😢
@MetaNerdz hey man really like your vids and I personally always thought that the MonCala ships were underrated. Cheers for this.
If I may make a suggestion, could you make a video on the Darklighter family?
In my opinion is it that the Darklighter’s may be the most influential family in all of StarWars lore
I have a suggestion for a ship breakdown for you. The contentor class resupply ship
Do more MC-80 Ships breakdown
So was it 2 Mon Calamari’s in the Endor battle cause one obviously got destroyed by the Death Star. If I’m not mistaken Akbar was on board an MC 80 during the whole battle & before hyperspace, ROTJ showed 2.
Forgive my ignorance, but i believe i have seen pictures of these vessels being used as habitats under water before being used as war ships, the picture depicts them as almost tower blocks nestled amongst the fauna under water.
i read that some were originally cruise liners for luxury travel
I love Mon Calamari but I much prefer the MC 80 Liberty Type or even the MC90
what is the game they're using to show The ships cuz it looks like Star Wars Empires at War but newer
It is empire at war but probably with some mods. But best will be if you will write timestamp so I can be 100% correct.
@@wojtek561 2:35
@@uridovitzgaming2281 Thats empire at war definitely, but with what mod? no sure. Can be Thrawn mod, or awakening of the rebellion or maybe some other.
Thrawn's Revenge mod
@@spartantraveler7251 is there any way to get that high quality for the Clone Wars mod
If these capital ships have so many turbo lasers, how come you can never see them on the ships?
Next try the MC-80 Justice, the MC-80 Freedom and the MC-80 Alliance
Hello
The ship is almost like a large whale with smaller fish hitching rides. Very marine like!
Let's go, Squid Ships!
The issue was they never mass produced their ships cause each ship even if in the same general line had so many custom features per ship. The ISDs were mass produced at KUAT. Sure a Mon Cal ship is way stronger then and ISD, but for every Mon Cal ship you make, they make 5 ISDs
ah yes, the space turds
KKKAMALA Hairyass went to space?
@EastGhostINCget politics out of here.
We are getting a Lego of it!
Were the "home ships" used in Ahsoka a version or inspiration for their design?
What's the video game at 9:25 and 9:35? I haven't played this one
There must have been a lot of open space! They are almost a mile long but only hold that of a modern aircraft carrier. 5000 personal and 120 fighter ships?
For me, the "Home One" is still just a call sign. Akbar's actual ship was called the "Independence".
One of my biggest disillusionments in star wars was how multiple sources of canon state that every moncal cruisers hull "blisters" were a unique / random pattern / placement and this was literally never indicated in any star wars media like, ever... 😢
YES!
Your voice is a bit off today...did you spend the night yelling at Netflix last night like the rest of the country?
Why's that?

That's exactly what I was going to say. So, why is that?

Now I’m curious….👀
Is there a video that explains EVERY rebel and New republic space battles in SW legend?
I’m sorry but damnnn you’re just NOW doing the home one😭FINALLY
To be honest the number one thing I'm looking at is the one part of the actual Shipley there's a forest no trees a beach and an island in it
Anybody else notice that nobody outside Star Trek dares use rhe sacred name Enterprise? 😂
9:31. I must know what game that is!
For once, it ISN'T a trap. Rest easy, Ackbar, you legend...
Hello there
OK what does Megalight rating mean?
Complicated , you mean Beautiful
What book it it ?
ur telling me it takes 4500 people to crew an aircraft carrier but only 5400 to crew a capital starchip the size of a small city
Could you imagine how smelly that bridge would be!?
78 gunners? really? Cuz on the picture it says 246
day 4 of asking for a tie striker breakdown.
honestly forgot i was doing this after recovering from a fever
Home one is at least 2.3 KM, if not 3.2 I don't care what the written stats say, the model is clearly far larger than an ISD.
Complicated? Maybe. Inconsistent? Absolutely.
1:55 Ah yes, Star Wars numbers again. 20,000 tons of cargo? A ship with this volume is 10+ million tons. 20,000 tons of cargo? LOL
Would it seriously take a dozen ISDs to take one of these down? Are ISDs underpowered? Are Home Ones overpowered?
W
I thought none of thier ships were exactly the same
I know The Next Ship
The Mon Calamari Blue Diver
As much as i love the Mon Cal Cruisers and their unique design i always think that it is mere plot armor that a MC of any version is more powerful than any Star Destroyer.
the ships are redesigned civil luxury cruisers. how could that compare to a ship that is specifically designed for space combat and intergalactic warfare?
image telling anyone that the redesigned titanic would have been the most powerful battleship in WW1.
you`d ask yourself "how on earth could that be ???"
it couldn't. and i dont understand why there is so much effort to make the MCs the better ship instead of having the underdog story
20k cargo, 400k worth of ships in the hanger...
It's a trap!
Home One ist the Name of that specific one ship not the Ship Class name
It was what now it was a part of the Starfleet command is it Star Wars fake note with
🌞
Its so offending that this things is called a cruiser and not a star destroyer :/
Star Defender would be much better.
1,300 meters is BS
Whoever wrote those books should just retcon it to match ROTJ
star war is a story
I hear it took place long long ago.
I bet George Lucas has no f-ing clue what this video is talking about.
Wait till you find out it’s fiction 🤯
I mean, Jezus, we know this channel was created by a kid, and I don't mean to embarrass him. But good god is there a one of you alive who thinks that Lucas, or the profiteering movie studio gave ANY thoughts or shits about this level of detail? They were selling movie tickets. No matter how much you love it, the entirety of this franchise contains tons of physics plot holes and crappy dialog. This isn't "lore" guys, for god sakes go invent something, please.
Sexiest ship in Star Wars.
Looks like a turd
