+Adam Phillip I don't think Europe has missed that much since the PS2-era, though? Maybe some niche JRPGs on PS2 that came out in NA, but not in EU. I'd actually argue that the PAL Dreamcast library is better than the NA's! Shenmue II, Headhunter, Rez...
Honestly, as far as Sega is concerned, I think Mega CD owners had it worst off in Europe. We got jack squat compared to the US. Not that the CD had that extensive a library to begin with, but still...
I still can't believe Metal Wolf Chaos never came out in the US. It's got full English Voice Acting and is a game where you play as the President of the United States in a Mech Suit shooting doods!
JUST WOKE UP!!!! THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY SUNDAY MORNING FOR CLOSELY A YEAR NOW!!!!! you guys are ust awesome, nothing says sunday morning like coffe and game sack ^^
A list of Super Nintendo games not released in Europe would be pretty depressing to listen to. Final Fantasy II & III, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, E.V.O... the best RPG's never made it to Europe.
Yep, was going to point this out but you beat me to it. I love the SNES but it's crazy how few RPGs made it over here. Thank God for the virtual console.
+seanmyster6 Yes. I think that's the main reason. I grew up in the Netherlands, where games were mostly published in English (even some games targeted to younger children, like Pokémon Red/Blue). But most other countries were used to play fully translated games.
+Turrican4D Actually the Wii's Virtual Console isn't bad at all, I'm planning on getting FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG and Secret of Mana (never got it back in the day) off there before they shut if down, as well as Earthbound on the Wii U VC.
@@steefwildenbeest1987 It's not just the languages, home console games would also have to be converted to PAL. Demand for these would probably have been even lower than in the US, so it'd probably be pretty hard to justify the investment needed to localise a lot of these games.
If you guys do another "Not in North America" episode sometime, you should totally include Vib-Ribbon -- a rhythm game from Nana-on-Sha (the same guys who did PaRappa the Rapper) that came out in Japan and Europe on the PS1, but never saw the light of day in North America. It's a weird, weird game that uses black-and-white vector graphics and allows you to put in and play stages set to songs from your own music CDs -- and it does a shockingly nice job of generating stages for most songs I've tried with it, too! And the built-in soundtrack is... strange, to say the least. But really enjoyable.
I have been using game sack as late night watching fuel and something to listen to as I go to sleep. This show has become my favourite UA-cam show as for retro gaming. You guys rock. And A+ for Joe's sweet Saturn shirt.
I'm always happy every weekend to see a Game Sack episode in my subscription feed. Love the format, commentary, and exposure to things I missed out on.
I’m sorry to disappoint you guys, but the “cinder block” edition of the super Nintendo was not exclusive to the United States. Down here in Brazil we also got the same awesome model. And the best part is, if you stack a bunch of those together, you can build a wall. Take that Europeans.
+NamKakkua nah my dude! the Koreans got that awesome ass Super Famicom design but they called theirs Super Nintendo (just like the European version) but the games run in NTSC just like the Japanese and American's systems. but the legitimate giving name they gave it is really called Hyundai Super Comboy
I really love and appreciate what you guys do! Unique and massively entertaining. Truly something special. I know it isn't your style, but do se modern reviews too! even if it's overly critical, I'd love to hear what you have to say.
I would love to see you guys play some of the classic DOS adventures...You should be able to play them with relative ease on Mac with DOSBox (that's what I do on Linux), and seeing your take on Alien Carnage, Commander Keen, System Shock, and the abundance of DOOM clones would be interesting. For that matter, an episode based on DOOM clones wouldn't be too horrible either.
This is something which I have wondering if you guys would do and looks like you finally did. I don't know why, but after watching this I want you guys to cover rip-off games. You know. games that pretty much imitate or take too much inspiration from other more popular games.
I do actually, here are my suggestions: Holy Diver: a famicom game that is bound to give Castlevania vibes Dante's inferno: A God of War clone The Krion Conquest: A NES game that rips off Mgaman. This was a super useful Game Sack episode for finding some new stuff to play. An episode focused on crazy boss battles would rock. See you guys at Portland!
ha ha ha lmfao OMG those voice overs you did during the Zero Wing intro ha ha, spit out my coffee all over the place. Great job guys, really enjoyed the vid as always
glad I have legit copy of terranigma , but I was under the impression it was region locked for pal regions. I had to get the stupid datel pro action replay for pal games when I got my copy like 10+ years ago. Still one of my fav games of all time I love it and illusion of gaia to this day.
+Maxim Index : Repro cards basically remove the region check so it works on a USA SNES. You would need to use a cheat device to disable the region check on an original cartridge.
+RadioTails Yeah I have the datel programmable univesal adapter it has to piggyback off a ntsc cart to check for region in the back of the cart and you put your pal terranigma on top. I guess these were made cause europeans never got as many cool snes rpgs in their region the datel works on both pal and ntsc vice versa. Its useful if I want to play any other pal exclusives with region lockout.
I'd like to notify you that China or Japan maybe has a different counting system. 1"億" is actually 100 million but sometimes people misinterpret it as 1 billion.
+dynamo beard It took until the late 90's for an FF6 to see UK shores on the PS1 as part of the anniversary collection, 2008 for Chrono trigger to hit here on the DS (though many people apparently imported the US PS1 version) and it took earthbound allllll the way until 2013 where we got it as a virtual console release.
+Redempy ... Yes all of these... Mario RPG wasn't released either. What annoys me is when people get uppity when I say Final Fantasy 7 was my first RPG... Dude! We didn't get anything else!
Looks like you had a lot of fun with this episode as there are a lot of good games here. Good selection of games too, I knew of the Famicom Hammerin Harry but I had no idea there was a Game Boy sequel.
Glad you all covered Terranigma. It's a great RPG with an interesting, twisty story and a fun action battle system. It's a bit plodding and obtuse at times and there's a good number of 'Guide damn it' moments, but I still love it to death. It's easily in my top ten favorite RPGs for the SNES.
people keep hating on how the U.S super nintendo looks like but im glad we got it because that means we got end labels, and no one else did so i feel like that should shut tye argument up right there
i'd love to see you guys tackle a few video game soundtrack shows. maybe like "suprisingly good soundtracks" or even "soundtracks better than the game they came from." I'm a huge game soundtrack fan and i'd love to hear about your thoughts. thanks for the awesome work!
Kurukuru Kururin was a game I bought randomly when I went on a EU vacation. The GBA had just come out, I was in Paris, in the mall under the Louvre, and I saw this game in the top 10 sales at the "Virigin" megastore that was there. I picked it up and was so happy and surprised that I could NOT believe that it never came over to America. I still miss that game and want to pick it up again!
I'm not savvy to all the games that came out here in the USA that didn't come out any where else. I think that an episode based around that would be pretty awesome to see. keep up the great work guys
@gamesack i really enjoy your show i finally saw all your episodes i really think its a well made show and it gives me great ideas on what games i want to buy thank you
The European version of Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventures uses password instead of battery save unfortunately, and the password system doesn't keep track of certain data that DO get kept with the built in save of the Japanese version. The best of both worlds is playing the fan translation of the Japanese version :P. Terranigma was released over here in late 1996 (even early 1997 in French speaking territories where we had to wait a couple more weeks), so I believe the localisation work (by Nintendo themselves if memory serves right) was badly rushed since the N64 was either already out or very close to be. Anyway, other games released over here but not in North America that I would recommend are the Pop n' Twinbee and Parodius Non-Sense Fantasy, both for the SNES. Good cute 'em ups :).
Panzer Bandit is a really fun side-scrolling beat-'em-up that came out on PlayStation, but only in Japan. I had to play it at my friends house in High School because he was the only one with a modified system. I don't think you have ever talked about this one, but I highly recommend it.
Definitely need a "Not in Europe". It's downright criminal the amount of SNES games that didn't make it over here including Final Fantasy (any), Chrono Trigger, and Super Mario RPG just to name a few.
7:53 This video came out in 2015, and kurukuru kururin recently came to North America on the Nintendo Switch Online service more than 7 years later, in 2023. Dave you did it.
I'd like to see a "Not in Europe!" episode sometime in the future.Like you said, many games never came to Europe and i bet you can make more than one episode judging from the number of games that missed our shores.
Terranigna definitely deserves more credit for its soundtrack than its getting here. One of my all time favourites. Glad I owned it from back in the day as I wouldn't want to buy at current prices .
A nice coincidance that you mention Over Horizon. I am in Germany, I plugged that PAL OVER HORIZON into my NTSC System. Oh my, it just ran too fast. When I searched eBay for the ntsc Cart I realized it was one that didn't come out in the US. You should be playing Super Turrican. A nice NES Port programmed by one MAN! Manfred Trenz himself. Incredible precise programming on the NES.
Blasting off actually really does a lot in that Twinbee game. You have to fly to the bounds of space as well as right in the corners. By doing that you can get every powerup available and be able to play the rest of the level full powered.
What I like about Over Horizon is the amount of customization. You can set the possition of your options yourself. I always liked that feature and wish other shooters had it.
I have been searching for Doki Doki Yuenchi forever, couldn't remember the name of the game since I saw it in arcades here when I was very young. Thanks GameSack!
That voice over for Zero Wing was the best voice acting I've heard in a video game. Way better than the excellent theatrics from the original Resident Evil.
Oh my gosh, that Over Horizon game looks so impressive for NES! Look at it, it has such cool-looking and animated BGs! And the gameplay is similar to Side Arms on the Turbografx 16 and that I approve! Next time you guys do a Not in North America episode, make sure to include Pop'n Twinbee for the Super Nintendo!
Super Mario RPG was sorely missed over here. Imported a cartridge and modified it by lifting a pin on the SA1 chip so it could play on a PAL console. It felt awful having to "destroy" it like that, but you do what you have to do!
Mean Machines magazine from the UK would review import games so I remember reading the review for Zero Wing in the same issue they reviewed Sonic. Was no mention of the intro at all.
the scrolling in devil world isn't really random if you notice wherever the devil points the screen goes the opposite direction I.E devil points right screen goes left devil points up screen goes down its pretty easy to figure out once you get used to it
SUPER FANTASY ZONE !!!! - And Wonderboy in Monster Lair, Twin Hawk. And Dragon Ball Z was released in France while Yu Yu Hakusho was released in Brazil (and Portugal IIRC).
Love eps like these. It fascinates me to see the quality games we missed out on way back when. It still happens to sadly enough. The wii has a game called captain rainbow that supposedly is nintendo making fun of its self. Treasure of the Rudras is an excellent japan only game that needs more love
Fascinating episode. Some of these games look really good, it's a shame they never made it stateside. These episodes are always great, cause there's always games I've never heard of. Keep up the awesome work Game Sack! \,,/
YEAAAH TERRANIGMA!!! Gotta mention that the fact that the game is set in the real world has the way more interesting implication of meeting historical figures and influencing the course of history (of course it takes many liberties). The different spear techniques described are not just for show, too, they all have different applications and effectivity depending on the enemy. A must play for fans of zelda, final fantasy, chrono trigger, secret of mana, etc.
A not in europe episode would have to be about 12hours long...
+LiveToby Especially if they go into the Dreamcast, Ps2 & Gamecube era
+LiveToby Indeed.
That's why they have multiple episodes on each subject. ;-P
+Adam Phillip
I don't think Europe has missed that much since the PS2-era, though? Maybe some niche JRPGs on PS2 that came out in NA, but not in EU. I'd actually argue that the PAL Dreamcast library is better than the NA's! Shenmue II, Headhunter, Rez...

"Mr President, believe in your own justice"
I love me some FROM SOFTWARE games! Crazy how expensive the game is, though :/
+Matthew J. Boone What is with From Software and mechs?
+howdareyou66 The game was a mockery of America, sir. That's why, lol.
@Lady Wanderer americs the best country ever
JUST WOKE UP!!!!

Miyamoto with a "Genesis does" shirt! That made my day!!
Terranigma is still easily one of my top 5 favorite games and one that totally defined my childhood.
Absolutely, it's one of THE top games for the SNES!
As a German, I would love to see a "Not in Europe!" episode. :)
+Highretrogamelord Basically every JRPG before the PS1 era, and then just half of them until the PS3 era.
+Reginmund So true. Especially Atlus games.
+Ryyyyyy You're right. Computer gaming was more popular than console games.
Well, I grew up with playing DOS games and Win 95/98 games...so yeah...
+Highretrogamelord But at least we Europeans had many legendary games for Commodore 64 that many Americans have never heard of. :)
+Pehmokettu ZX Spectrum was more popular, and Amiga was more popular at least in late 80s than C64
Haha, that narration of Zero Wing was awesome! That should be in the game.
If you guys do another "Not in North America" episode sometime, you should totally include Vib-Ribbon -- a rhythm game from Nana-on-Sha (the same guys who did PaRappa the Rapper) that came out in Japan and Europe on the PS1, but never saw the light of day in North America. Actually it finally got a U.S. Release. It was re-released on the PSN.
+HamtaroSonicHedgehog
does the psn version still have the feature to use your own CDs? I've been debating on buying it.
+jrzag yes it does
Stavekoff Dats Coolio.
totally agree, vib ribbon is a great game.
I have been using game sack as late night watching fuel and something to listen to as I go to sleep. This show has become my favourite UA-cam show as for retro gaming. You guys rock. And A+ for Joe's sweet Saturn shirt.
Best channel on UA-cam
+J Russ Really liking FinalBosses as well, please do another Halloween episode!
Just what I needed tonight after getting off work. A new episode of Game Sack. Thanks guys.
'These dolls were designed on the likeness of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen'. Brilliant!
I'm always happy every weekend to see a Game Sack episode in my subscription feed. Love the format, commentary, and exposure to things I missed out on.
I luv waking up to a juicy Game Sack all over my eyeballs!
I enjoy looking forward to watching these saturday nights! Keep it up guys!
+Zach Beiser its Sunday Night for me great way too start the week :)
+JayDee284 Sunday morning for me. It's literally the first UA-cam video for me every Sunday.
25:12 Quote: "Europe is dumb..."
Now we await the flaming responses.
Quoted out of context like that it sounds awful!
+Game Sack everyone knows it was a joke surely?
+John Hughes Even if it wasn't a joke, who is passionate about Europe?
Erm Europeans?
+John Hughes They are passionate about the specific country and not Europe. (I'm European too btw)
when i saw that twinbee plataform game i wonder how much happier my childhood had been if i had that game instead of bubsy 2
I’m sorry to disappoint you guys, but the “cinder block” edition of the super Nintendo was not exclusive to the United States. Down here in Brazil we also got the same awesome model. And the best part is, if you stack a bunch of those together, you can build a wall. Take that Europeans.
+lexas1911 I think Korea also got the cinder block edition.

but the legitimate giving name they gave it is really called Hyundai Super Comboy
always happy to see a new episode of game sack on my feed:) keep up the great work guys!

I know it isn't your style, but do se modern reviews too! even if it's overly critical, I'd love to hear what you have to say.
+Game Sack
Man I look forward to new episodes from you guys, much more than anything on TV, Netflix or Hulu.
Ikr. I got a subscription to Netflix and yet I keep coming back to UA-cam to watch either Avgn or Gamesack.
I would love to see you guys play some of the classic DOS adventures...You should be able to play them with relative ease on Mac with DOSBox (that's what I do on Linux), and seeing your take on Alien Carnage, Commander Keen, System Shock, and the abundance of DOOM clones would be interesting.
For that matter, an episode based on DOOM clones wouldn't be too horrible either.
thank you joe & dave for FINALLY talking about terranigma. i was waiting forever for you to talk about it!
All your memes are, after all, belong to Zero Wing.
That Zero Wing intro parody was amazing! :D
Was expecting deep fear for Sega Saturn on here. It was released in Japan and Europe only
LOVE this show. How you guys keep finding games is beyond me
Terranigma is a masterpiece. Glad you guys covered it!
love the Miyamoto (however you spell it) in a genesis shirt picture, and the Olsen twins likeness used for the troll inspiration jokes. Made my day!
Damn, anyone that complains about your "wooden delivery" needs to take a look at your brilliant reading of Zero Wing's intro.
omg the voice over part of this video was incredible! thanks for the entertainment guys.
This is something which I have wondering if you guys would do and looks like you finally did. I don't know why, but after watching this I want you guys to cover rip-off games. You know. games that pretty much imitate or take too much inspiration from other more popular games.
+Jeanmartin Freites That's a good idea. Any examples you'd like to see?
I do actually, here are my suggestions:
Holy Diver: a famicom game that is bound to give Castlevania vibes
Dante's inferno: A God of War clone
The Krion Conquest: A NES game that rips off Mgaman.
Sonic had quite a few clones back in the day
Also The Crusader of Senti, a game you guys have talked about that is basically a Zelda clone.
Those are all the ones I can think of at the moment.
Jeanmartin Freites
Excellent, thanks. We'll try to get to it as soon as we can but we have a lot on the table before then. Thanks for the suggestions!
Game Sack Good to be of help :)
If you actually do the episode please don't forget Run Saber on the SNES :D everybody says it's a strider rip-off, but I think it's even better.
'as much crack as possible' possibly the funniest moment of Game Sack and one of the greatest premises for a video game ever devised at the same time.
Will always support you guys
This was a super useful Game Sack episode for finding some new stuff to play. An episode focused on crazy boss battles would rock. See you guys at Portland!
You should make a Not In Japan episode so you can cover games like Startropics and Secret of Evermore.
I know this is a late reply, but...
They already made a Not in Japan episode. Yes, they put Secret of Evermore, but no, they didn't put StarTropics.
ha ha ha lmfao OMG those voice overs you did during the Zero Wing intro ha ha, spit out my coffee all over the place.
The info I looked up online said otherwise, but I admit I could be wrong. I didn't use any special ROM on my SNES that I know of.
+Game Sack heh not a big deal , I think the game is more accessible now with repro carts than the original release heh.
Maxim Index
Probably. I just hope the repro makers keep the prices reasonable.
+Maxim Index : Repro cards basically remove the region check so it works on a USA SNES. You would need to use a cheat device to disable the region check on an original cartridge.

Games that did not came to Europe: Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Final Fantasy 6... T_T
+Redempy And many more essentials from the 90's on multiple systems.
+Redempy It seems Europe heavily missed out mostly on the RPG's.
Maybe they thought Europe wasn't that into RPG's?
+Redempy Europe never got those? Got damn...I'm really sorry man.

Good selection of games too, I knew of the Famicom Hammerin Harry but I had no idea there was a Game Boy sequel.
Wow, you didn't have Kuru Kuru Kururin? It was pretty famous here in Europe as far as i remember...
Yep it was one of the launch titles for Gameboy Advance
Thank you both for another fun filled episode.
I preferred the Japanese/European design of the SNES. The model released in the Americas looks too blocky.
Each to their own, I suppose! ☺
Everyone does, most of all Joe and Dave 😉 That last segment is pure sarcasm.
When he said troll dolls were designed to look like mary kate and ashley olson .... I lost it hahahahahhahahaahha
Game Sack is my replacement for church on Sunday mornings.
Nice!
Oh my god that voice over section was the fuckin bomb, im actually crying
Game sack rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TIME FOR A DELICIOUS MEAL AND ENTERTAINMENT TO GO WITH IT.
SOUP'S ON, GAME SACK!
At "Well sue me and I'll counter sue and we'll sue back and forth forever" I absolutely lost it, brilliant.
people keep hating on how the U.S super nintendo looks like but im glad we got it because that means we got end labels, and no one else did so i feel like that should shut tye argument up right there
*the
That is actually a good counter-argument. Not really for the console itself but for the carts.
+Game Sack yeah, strange in how all my the years I've never heard that point come up not even once
I envy your end labels but I really love the design of our European snes. The north american one isn't bad but it looks really boxy and bulky
+Game Sack
I didn't get Fatal frame IV to be released in Europe, even if put end labels to the FF III case :(
You guys are going ham on these vids! Keep em comin!
+Blast Mode Processing FX 7 I love ham!!
This comment just wasted 4 seconds of your life.
3 actually. I'm a speed reader!
+Game Sack ... a speader... JUDGES!!!!!! (we're going to allow it.)
Game Sack Well played Game Sack well played.
+OfficialNinjaSkillz And this is a wasted reply.
+OfficialNinjaSkillz .02 speed reader MLG
i'd love to see you guys tackle a few video game soundtrack shows. maybe like "suprisingly good soundtracks" or even "soundtracks better than the game they came from." I'm a huge game soundtrack fan and i'd love to hear about your thoughts. thanks for the awesome work!
Waterworld(SNES) Dean Evans
The hammering harry for the NES, is one of those games that you need to talk about.
Loved the voice over Joe. Almost thought it was part of the game at first. Loved the humor in this episode. 😃👍

I grabbed a repro cart of Terranigma a few years ago. Glad I did. What a great experience, and the music is fantastic, especially the ending theme.
@gamesack i really enjoy your show i finally saw all your episodes i really think its a well made show and it gives me great ideas on what games i want to buy thank you
Thanks!
+Game Sack :) i have an idea for a show you should compare changes of games between usa and japan and Europe
Axel Rodriguez
We do have a regional differences episode. We'd like to do that again sometime.
yeah that would be cool because there a lot of great games that got the Ax on changes for one reason or another
+Game Sack How about Crusader of Centy and Soleil.

I remember seeing ads and previews for Over Horizon here in the U.S. at some point. It's really weird it didn't get released here.
The dialogue of the excellently translated game was the absolute high point of the video. I wish there was more of it.
...I wish there was a movie.

Thanks again for a great episode. You guys make my Sunday.
Sweet feeling of getting a notification for a new Game Sack episode
Terranigna definitely deserves more credit for its soundtrack than its getting here. One of my all time favourites. Glad I owned it from back in the day as I wouldn't want to buy at current prices .
This episode was really interesting. Thanks guys.

When I searched eBay for the ntsc Cart I realized it was one that didn't come out in the US. You should be playing Super Turrican. A nice NES Port programmed by one MAN! Manfred Trenz himself. Incredible precise programming on the NES.
awesome a new gamesack you guys are awsome i learn alot and always have to find new games
Lol I love the sarcasm at the end of every episode and this one is funny
Blasting off actually really does a lot in that Twinbee game. You have to fly to the bounds of space as well as right in the corners.
By doing that you can get every powerup available and be able to play the rest of the level full powered.
What I like about Over Horizon is the amount of customization. You can set the possition of your options yourself. I always liked that feature and wish other shooters had it.
I have been searching for Doki Doki Yuenchi forever, couldn't remember the name of the game since I saw it in arcades here when I was very young. Thanks GameSack!
Truly some of the greatest voice acting I've ever heard.
You guys (Joe and Dave) should do Dr. Chaos for the next Halloween video. Be sure to include the black kitteh in the intro. It sets the mood.
Kururin has three speeds - hold A + B + direction to go faster. Don't imagine that really helps, but there it is!

Alright, work tomorrow, time for bed so I can be productiv- DAMN YOU GAMESACK!
Mean Machines magazine from the UK would review import games so I remember reading the review for Zero Wing in the same issue they reviewed Sonic. Was no mention of the intro at all.
the scrolling in devil world isn't really random if you notice wherever the devil points the screen goes the opposite direction I.E devil points right screen goes left devil points up screen goes down its pretty easy to figure out once you get used to it
I love you guys. you even put X2 music. the best part of the game!!!!
New Ghostbusters 2 (for Famicom / NES) was also not released in US though it's really good one.
SUPER FANTASY ZONE !!!!
- And Wonderboy in Monster Lair, Twin Hawk. And Dragon Ball Z was released in France while Yu Yu Hakusho was released in Brazil (and Portugal IIRC).
Is Dave's shirt Samus Aran in the Art Nouveau style of Alphonse Mucha?
+bdwilcox It's definitely Art Nouveau but I don't know who's style it copied. I just know that I like it.
game sack: my favourite sack! .. aside from my own sack.
Excellent episode, thank you!
Omg, All your base... classic... lol. Wasn't expecting that in this video. Amazing.
I was hoping you'd mention Ufouria, although I vaguely recall you talking about it before.
