I made your shampoo recipe using rosemary, lavender and sage and just a diluted apple cider vinegar rinse as I didn't have the infused one ready yet. It has transformed my hair ❤.
I've just made a new batch of shampoo using calendula, horsetail, rosemary, sage, chamomile - I find the whole experience so fulfilling and my aged hair has been brought back to life 😊 Thanks so much for your inspirating ideas ❤

Lovely! Just a little caution about using plastic and essential oils. Essential oils react with plastic so any product containing essential oils, should be kept only in the glass containers. And thank you for this lovely video. 💚

I steep a sprig of rosemary in 2 oz of water overnight in a mason jar and then keep it in the fridge. 2x a day I have been massaging my husband’s scalp and my own. Our hair is fuller now and I noticed mine growing much faster. I think my husband’s bald spots are reversing, but I’m not entirely sure because I’ve only been doing this a week. One bottle lasts about 3-4 days.

Rosemary Gladstar used to live in a nearby (to me in California) small town. This was back in the 1970's, she was so young and vibrant and had a little herb shop then too. She'd wear her black lace dress and dispense her knowledge with such wisdom and joy. So I love hearing about your using her recipes way over the pond in Ireland!

I am going to give this a try. I'll have to grow the rosemary first. I love the smell of rosemary. Your hair is beautiful. Thank you for this video.

Mostly I use birch leafs, golden rod, (for the platinum look ;) stinging nettle, chamomile, ( My mother used to rinse my hair with chamomile and I loved this floral scent) honey,
burdockoil (chop up the roots from the first year plant, dry them in a dark place, cover them with almond, olive, jojoba,.....oil, close the glass firmly, keep it in a dark place for 4 weeks and shake from time to time. ) and exactly the same Soap :) And when the calendula blooms, I will definitely try your recipe. Our grandmothers often had no choice but to pick herbs. We do! have the choice! We can make so many things ourselves and share what we know and walk together a better and healthier way of living. I thank you with all my heart and everyone else too!!!

The seeds of custard apple can be used for head lice. Crush them and grind into a paste with water (doesn't find entirely smooth, but do your best) apply onto the scalp and hair, put on a shower cap, leave it in for 30 minutes or overnight. Wash with any shampoo. Repeat after 3 days if any still left.

Thank you for this wonderful video. You’ve inspired me to start looking into what I have here near me as far as local wild herbs I can use for hair. Not only is this a much more healthier more natural way to clean your hair, but also it helps you to become more self-sufficient. It helps you to become more self reliant, and to be able to live a good life without depending on stores, and modern technology. Much like our ancestors who produced their own food, built their own homes, made their own clothing and shoes and pretty much everything that they used and consumed

I'm a Cosmetologist. I see almost everyone has a nasty scalp condition nowadays. My client the other day told me he hasn't washed his hair in 5 years! It wasn't gross or smelly! I've tried that no shampoo thing before but I always fail. I'm tired of my dry itchy scalp, dry damaged hair. I'm trying it again because I'm allergic to everything.

Update: I just finished mixing up some of the shampoo. All I have on hand is dried herbs, too cold here for herbs except chives. Didn't think that was a good idea, ha! I measured out an ounce of herbs knowing it would be too much. I had to add more water as it absorbed nearly all the water, of course. I recently read Clary sage is good for hair, so added several drops of it and cypress essential oils and a natural facial oil I have on hand. It smells so nice! I was concerned it would smell like an Italian savory sauce, but it's a lovely wonderful earthy fragrance, like walking in woods. I actually have tried to duplicate that fragrance and here I stumbled upon it!. I cannot wait to use it and plan to use rosemary, Clary sage and cypress essential oils in my next batch of soap. I do not care for the odor of Castile soap, but is completely disappeared.
Original: Those sound heavenly. Thank you! I have been making my own shampoo and body bar for several years but your recipe sounds lovely for a self care evening. Joanne, USA

My latest batch of homemade shampoo is a rosemary and horsetail blend. Horsetail for silica to keep my hair healthy and rosemary to keep it from thinning. A rinse I like is either made with nettle or a stimulating rosemary and peppermint mix in vinegar or sometimes lemon juice, water, and chamomile essential oil. I can gather horsetail on a nearby forest trail, but I now live in a condo so often purchase dried herbs to use. Watching you in your lovely garden makes me miss my large herb garden on my former homestead. Your vlog is a feast for heart and soul.

Final rinse - fermented rice water. Great as facial toner too as it removes redness and calms the skin

When I converted to natural shampoo, my scalp and hair never feIt so clean and shiny, not to mention, I got my hairs natural texture back. It takes a few weeks, for some people even month to regulate the oils on the scalp and detox from shampoo “addiction “. I tried diluted Castile soap with other natural ingredients but made my scalp very itchy and didn’t like the feel of my hair. What worked for me was good old eggs or egg yolks, apple cider vinegar, rosemary and peppermint, lavender essential oil. Shook the bottle with the applicator and put it on the scalp and rubbed, then rinsed it with lukewarm water. Felt very very clean.
Now I just use apple cider vinegar with essential oil and some nettle tea, rub it in my scalp and rinse.

I use 1 teaspoon of dried stinging nettle leaves (organic) in large bowl and add boiled water. When water is luke warm, drain the leaves and then I dunk my whole head in the stinging nettle water, using my hands to rub into scalp. I don’t rinse, just air dry - it does an excellent job- hair is very clean & very easy to do- I’ve heard you can use other teas & I’ve tried using dried dandelion leaves, did a good job cleaning my hair, but it made my blond highlights to brassy . Also do not attempt to brush wet hair after washing with stinging nettles - wait until it’s 80% dry then brush- if hair is to dry or frizzy after it has dried (
as mine is without commercial conditioner), I use a silk bonnet & or silk hair ties overnight . This works a treat.

It keeps very well and for my fine hair, I use it every now and again, as I find it doesn't give a thick look to it. But I might try some more herbs to add to help remedy that.

Thank you for this, I will give it a try as soon as I need. I've taken to using bar shampoos to reduce my plastic purchases. Rosemary grows well in my current garden and although I'm a natural blonde (whose hair color is naturally evolving as I age) I like using a rosemary tea as a rinse. Smell is wonderful and it makes my hair feel extra silky.

Very nice. I also put herbs like tulsi, or yarrow flowers...or whatever is available at the time. In the winter I pull out some of my dried herbs and flowers and use them. Lavender is one that really gives a nice fragrance even through the vinegar scent.

Great video, as usual. I learned so much and I'm going to give it a shot. Your comments about so-called natural ingredients remind me about what you said in your video about making laundry soap, that just because something is recommended as good for your hair doesn't mean anything really. The man who cuts my hair recommended that I take some kinds of supplements to help my thinning hair and a "purple shampoo" to prevent brassy tones in my lightening hair. I was about to go buy these products until I saw this. You are the one I trust!

      @taraxacum Рік тому

@@DanusIrishHerbGardenThanks for taking the time to respond . I'll look into the B vits. He suggested Rogaine. which I have not investigated. My opinion is still that what nature gives us is always the best place to start, especially with what you say about Rosemary's long history. (I had a Rosemary plant when I was living on my boat because it is so salt tolerant. Rosemary is Rosmarinus, dew of the sea).
I also want to avoid the shampoo he mentioned, and all shampoos really as I'm learning from you about what commerical shampoos do to your hair.
I already have everything on hand to make this, even rosemary, which doesn't grow where I live, I can purchase at my local market. Thank you again for making your experience and wisdom available to us.

I have dark hair. So what I do aside from using Aleppo soap as my "shampoo", I make a mixture of henna powder, coconut oil, honey, and an infusion of Roselle flowers. I mix it and let it sit for however long I have time (between an hour to overnight) and then I apply the paste onto and into my hair, and leave that on for however long I have time..(between an hour to overnight) the longer it all sits, the more intense the reddish hues.. but I only want a slight reddish effect so I never leave it for very long. I will wash it all out with my Aleppo soap, and then use the rest of the roselle infusion as a rinse so as not to waste whatever was leftover in making the henna paste. I've noticed my hair is a lot healthier and doesn't fall out like it used to. As for a "conditioner" (its really not needed, but makes my hair shiny) I use a hair oil of some type. Sometimes a plain argan oil or sometimes it's a rosemary (and other herbs) infused almond oil. on a regular wash day, I'll just use Aleppo soap and then the hair oil.

Thank you Danu for your scented shampoo recipe. Here is one for you. To make natural soap, whole Soap-nuts and whole Shikaki you can purchase them from Amazon or any East Indian store because the products are from India. Wash about 12 Soap-nuts and 4 pieces of Shikaki, boil in 2 cups of water until it is soft, foamy and a thick consistency of about 1 cup. Let sit overnight, strain and infuse with any herb or scented oil. Bottle and keep in the fridge .Feels great on the scalp. PS. Do not use powder only whole ingredients because powders do not produce the same results, it is impossible to strain, very messy.

Interesting recipe that I'll try when I run out of mine. The one I made was regular cold process with gentler oils for hair and butters and the hers Rosemary and Nettle included in the trace. First try, I see I should have infused them. I never thought of the castile soap for the hair, mine need lots of moisturizer so I don't know how it'd react. And I use my rinse with 1 part of apple cider vinegar for 7 parts of distiled water. I should add the herbs there too to increase the effects. It's a brilliant idea, thanks!

I found that commercial shampoos tangled up my hair necessitating the purchase of a conditioner to detangle ( capitalism at its work!).
