When I was about 8 we had a days foraging at our village school and each were told a certain plant, leaf, bark etc to look for. Later we all made something from them. I was given nettle and told to make nettle soup. All the other kids laughed at me for having to use nettle. But the nettle has stayed with me my whole life, as a teacher, food, tea, medicine, cordage and fibre for spinning and weavjng. I loved this video. Thankyou for making it

Hello. I'm in the USA. I was gifted a Roku stick for my birthday in March. I picked into your videos on youtube and have not stopped watching them. My Cherokee and Irish grandmothers helped me learn herbs when I was 18. I have dabbed in herbs my whole life but due to misfortunes in life I lost contact with me. I have a patch of nettles that are about 10 yrs old. I made your nettle soup. I was blown away to how delicious it is. Your videos have restarted my life. My brother got me started with honey bees a couple years ago. Life is looking up for me. I can't even begin to tell you how appreciated I am for you. My spirit is alive again. Thank you so much. Keep bringing the knowledge and Spirit. 🌻🐝🐓

Hi. My mother came from the West Meath side of Dublin before moving to the UK, or, having to flee!. She is 87 and still going strong even after 12 children. 5 Generations to be exact. She fills us with many stories of the past, working as the 6 year old in the peat bogs, bringing a slab home for a penny a day. No utilities, schools or a food source. Making life , love and friendship from many areas. She talked about clovers, the sweet taste from childhood, many plants that kept them going and the many hardships they faced. She is a wealth of knowledge, just like yourself and an inspiration as I have my first allotment. You are very inspiring and I love your content as it takes me back to my mothers tales and the songs she sings in between. Thank you X

I'm a country girl but do not understand? I know about clovers for food but very curious. Be blessed with your mother, we are to honor them. Smoky Mts, Tennessee, USA. Thank you

I never appreciated Nettles for years. When I was a child, my Grandmother would send me down to the bottom of the garden to collect nettles, which she threw into soups, stews, and tea - not once did I ever think that the fierce stinging that assaulted my legs, hands, arms and even my face was beneficial in any way!! I do love them now though. Another great video - you really do pack them with a great variety of information -from history, to medicinal, to cooking. You even matched the soup in that gorgeous green shawl .

I do suffer with z lot of pain s,one is hip bursitis and I've been so tempted to sting my hips but not brave enough so far, I have injection s in my hips and wrist s but if this was to help with stings would be great, I'm always accidentally stinging my fingers whilst collecting greens s for my girls.yesterday I managed to collect wonderful soft fresh goosegrass from nearby allotments the gentleman working there was happy for me to help myself from the hedge. Its wonderful watching my girls eating away and recycling the freshly gathered greens into wonderful eggs.i have kept a few chickens for many years now and I love their company and watching them. Also always exciting to collect eggs,I have an array of colours in my basket now.,I really do love my girls, also love to give eggs to my children when they visit, and my friends. Lovely video Terri. I became interested in the uses of nettles many years when I read an article by an 80+ gentleman who cured his hip pain by stinging himself with it.
At that time I had sciatica which was ruling my life.... long story short - I stung my hip and leg for a period of time - and it really worked.. I sting myself frequently just to keep things ticking over. I think it may also act as a blood purifier. Had a good old sting yesterday. Picked some nettles for Lady Ridley's soup. Makes delicious soup.. love your videos.. XX

Chicken meat (if you eat meat), and the dryed nettle that was in water. Boil just little bit. Serve with rice, and lots of lemon :-).

Growing up, I had a severe allergy that would cause awful, itching, swelling rashes on any Sun-exposed skin. I was the one on the beach in long sleeves, long pants, socks and gloves! Nettle was an absolute saviour. My Mum would make nettle tea and cold compresses adn these were honestly the only things that helped me. In college, and being poor students, my best friend and I would forage for nettle and make a pesto like sauce for pasta with it... Delicious and highly recommend. I love seeing folk love on nettle...:) A misunderstood plant with so many beautiful benefits. Thank you for this video!

Thank you for this edifying video and that delicious sounding soup.
I don't live where nettles grow, but I use the dried herb. I use it often. As you said it helps ease menopausal bleeding which it did when I had heavy menopausal bleeding. Quitting caffeine also reduced the bleeding and nettles supported my withdrawal from coffee. Stopping coffee not only reduced the bleeding but I discovered that I had natural energy without any caffeine input.
When I use dried nettle, I make nourishing herbal infusions, as described by the American herbalist Susun Weed. These infusions use a lot of dried herb which are added to boiled water and let sit for four hours or even overnight. There are several herbs that can be used that way which are full of nutrients. I feel most drawn to the magic of nettles and oatstraw nourishing infusions. I used them for a month to tonify my nervous system prior to quitting smoking tobacco, and I actually achieved that goal without falling back into the habit.
    Green blessings to you!

    My nettle story...
When I was young, just starting a family of my own An elderly lady friend of the family that I barely knew came for a visit to my house. She noticed I had nettles growing in my garden. At that point I knew very little about them. She asked if she could have a good sized handful of them and I was more than happy to share. When we had collected up a nice sized bunch she proceeded to pull down her pants and bend over and promptly asked me to whack her on her hips and backside with them. 😳👁👁 I quickly recovered from my shock, as she explained that their stings are very helpful to relieve her aches and pains in that area... 🤩😂 Although she is gone now I’ve loved her and Nettles ever since 💝✨💖💫
Can we use dried nettles in stock and strain them out ? Will they still have some medicinal and healing properties using them that way?

Layer your nettles into a vegetarian lasagna - or even a meat lasagna. They are absolutely amazing in this! I blanched many last year & then froze them for cooking with later. Have already been out harvesting nettles this year, the younger shoots. I use them in food, teas, soaps, skin care & hair care products & much more. Really an amazing plant! Time to go harvesting again before they get really big. They're fine for teas when larger, but can get quite tough & fibrous for cooking with at that stage.

Thanks lovely Terri…I’ve been letting our Nettles grow …we found them when Husband took down the old fence and put in a Bay Laurel Hedging…they were under the fence lol.
I have just cut the Nettle all back this week and I was stung a bit lol but I had a nice Salt and Clay bath…and I’m fine. Going to make this today with what I gathered. Lovely blessings. ❤️🌻🌹☘️

Great video! I've watched it several times ;) I went out yesterday and picked some nettles and hung some to dry for tea and medicine later. I also made a tincture and infused some in oil for making salve, then I blanched some to put in the freezer, after that I made pesto sauce and with what I had left I made a big pot of soup. I left out enough for dinner and lunch today. The rest went In the freezer for later. I absolutely love stinging nettles! And I truly enjoy all of your videos Terri. Thank you so much!

I love your channel Terri! I will definitely give this a go when I see my nettles coming up. I'm planning on having lots of areas around my garden for nettles when we move. You should also tell people how beneficial they are for our native butterflies, so many depend on it.
Could you do a video on making apple cider vinegar? I tried and made what I later learned was Apple scrap vinegar, not the same thing.
Ps. You look great in that green shawl!

The enzymes in fresh nettles help counteract spring allergies - about 50% of the participants in a study by Traditional Medicinal were helped taking freeze dried nettles!
Herbalist Ryan Drum (Washington, USA) found flash cooking nettles (2-4 minutes) preserves most of the beneficial enzymes - so I do that and make a spring pesto, add to green drinks, and this morning chord some into sourdough pancakes!
My daughter's midwives recommended nettle, raspberry and alfalfa infusions during her 2nd pregnancy at 35, before a home birth, to tonight and strengthen her uterus and prevent excess bleeding - they were amazed at how little blood she lost!! (I would often make it for her, and we'd each have a cup of tea, before dipping it up and letting it steep overnight!

The soup looks delicious. I'm definately going to make it.
We have tons of nettles on our grounds. A few days ago we asked a farmer to clear the one plot which looked like a jungle gone wrong.
I was dragging fallen branches to make a pile. I was also collecting dandelions, and bent down to pick some flowers. I didn't notice I was sticking my hands into nettles. It stung like crazy for hours. My thumb and index finger were on fire. 😂😂 I wasn't wearing my gloves.
I know nettles are a good weed but didn't know what to do with them.
Nettle soup it is. Thank you. 😁
