“The Bloodhound’s Fang is an absolute banger of a curved greatsword.” Truer words have never been spoken, this thing is an absolute beast… there’s a reason it’s used in all the world record speed runs!
The only problem I have with it is that it’s very basic Not that’s it’s bad, just that it’s very boring to use and I wanna look awesome while using a weapon
@@thegroock9289 I think its actually quite flashy, a disappearing dashattack is also useful for various reasons in pvp, its also effectively the only second step of an ash of war that lets you engage with it. Doing the first backwards then the second forward covers huge distance and is a very skillful thing to do.
I started my 1st playthrough with Uchi and Moonveil (INT build), but when I realized my playstyle better fits the Bloodhound's Fang (full DEX) and how great this weapon was, it carried my ass to the Haligtree.
Got bloodhounds fang from literally the first boss I ever killed in Elden Ring. While fighting him I thought "dude if I could farm his sword that'd be sick" and then it dropped and so did my jaw when I seen the weapon art. That sword carried me through my first playthrough and my friends always were stumped at how much damage I could do and I'd just laugh
@@Furyheart great stars pretty much carried me through my first play through. I ran his faith power stance build with them, switched between flame and holy arts. Was able to dual wield from the 2 drops in leyendell so around like level 60. Just ran around jump attacking everything. Would proc bleed on a lot of boss fights which was a nice touch. And Prayerful strike + great stars is 🔥
Morgott's Curved Sword after the update is such a great weapon even before the update I loved using but after the update it's really good. Powerstancing it with Bloodhound's Fang is really satisfying
Everyone is saying it is. I tried it on my dex/arc character and I'm having a hard time respecting it over Eleonora's Poleblade. The only advantage I see is that I don't have to two-hand it, which makes casting incantations more convenient.
@@gigastrike2 eleonoras poleblade is super good (one of my favorites) and I would say morgotts does a great job at stun locking with the ash of war and just getting more damage on hit. Not as cool as eleonoras though in my opinion but still very, very good
It’s amazing to think that a over a year after release, this game is still getting build and help guides. Just shows how much we love this game and of course Fextralife. Thank you for the vid.
One of the first things I look for in these videos is the release date. There's been 9 patches to this game and FromSoft loves to tweak buffs and nerfs more than any other developer so it's nice to stay on top of that aspect. I'm doing my first playthrough now and just focusing on collecting everything. The NG allows you to just free roam trying out different characters, builds, weapons, weapon arts and all those incantations etc. That's why videos like these are so important for the game because that's what people do after their initial playthrough.
I think the name sake just speaks for the look.. I really don’t know any other weapon in the game that uses an affinity that has its name in the title of the sword. Theres frozen needle, and I’ll put the gravity katana in here even tho it doesn’t shoot meteors..umm Ig the rotten weapons… but Naa it’s just name sake for design.
I know I speak for many when I say the Bloodhound Fang single handedly got me through my first play through a year ago and I loved every second of it. Great weapon class all around for sure.
"Monk's Flameblade pros: looks badass". Reasons like this is why I love these videos. Nice video, not a curved greatsword user myself, but found some interesting swords that might try, to see how they feel. Thanks for the video!!
that bloodhound's fang is probably the best early weapon in the game for any build, and after the buff on one of the patchs the ash on it turned really good...
this is exactly why I watch your videos. I have over 170 hours in this game, working on my third walk through and I have been using the bloodhound's fang wrong this whole time. I have used the bloodhound's fang for most of the game play and I never knew it had a follow up on it ash of war.
Something useful about the follow up also. If you unlock you can choose a direction. But if you are locked on, you will always go away from what you're facing. So you can use the first half, to back away, and then turn around and keep going. It's good at getting away since you have s. It's a little trickier, but if you face away for the first hit, you can get close, and then use the follow up much easier, as you won't be as far away
Still waiting for claws or daggers. The Flame blade and the flame mace really should give a boost to fire atks. Really disappointing that the best looking weapon in a family is also the worst choice
Gotta love Fex admitting that the only reason anyone wants Monk's Flameblade is the drip. Love these videos and keep coming back to them leading up to the DLC. Would love to see a Great Hammers video at some point if possible.
I plan on getting back to these after these launches (still have lies of P, lords of the fallen and cyberpunk DLC) but I'll finish the weapon series before the ER DLC
Glad to see you're still at it Fextra. Looking forward to the build on friday. Also, when Shadow of the Erdtree drops you'll have tons of new content you'll have to create 😂
The magma scalesword was my noble companion on my first playthrough. As soon as I picked that beauty up it never left my inventory. Magma Guillotine is so good it feels like you're cheesing the game by using it. Plus it looks awesome, and that special R2 is so stylish. Love that weapon.
I've been using it to help people in late-game co-op. The fact that the first portion is effectively uninterruptable is incredibly helpful. It also has great range, stagger, and the magma pool deals significant damage over time. With FGMS, Golden Vow, Fire physick flask, Shard of Alexander and Flame scorpion Charm, the first portion including the damage over time does nearly 5k damage to hoarah loux and radagon.
I’ve been hoping for a Great Spear video, myself. It should be pretty quick to put together, since there are so few of them. (Hopefully the DLC gives us more.) Also, it really is unfair how weak the Monk’s Flameblade is considering how frustrating it is to acquire.
Another huge benefit of the infusable cgs is the HUGE variety of ashes of war they can equip, able to use straightsword, greatsword, colossal sword, curved sword, thrusting sword, AND polearm ashes of war.
Thank you for putting these videos together for us. Lots of research is done in these and it’s much appreciated! I’d love to see claws, thinking of cosplaying a Ravenmount assassin. Thanks!
I used the Bloodhound's Fang on my last playthrough. The weapon skill is so devastating and absurdly cheap on FP, the first phase is only 8FP. Second phase is 12, which makes it similar to Lion's Claw in cost but I'm fairly sure it does more damage if both phases hit. With a fully leveled weapon and Dex ~50, if you come in with a 2 handed jump attack followed by the weapon art it does something north of 5000dmg with minimal buffing. Just a crazy powerful weapon/moveset.
Not only does the Bloodhound Fang do so much damage and has an awesome skill, it can be amplified with any spell (ex. Blood flame, magic, lightning, etc.) which makes it one of the most versatile in my opinion
Magma wyrms CGS is amazing and favor. On +10 with 138RL scaling on STR B and FAITH B!!! Jump attack hits 1500hp! Incredible. Fextralife, you forgot to mention in the cons that the weapon of the beastman has a very small percentage of dropout, I literally collected all the weapons in the game, and here it is and the sickle of crazy dancers took 8 hours for 2 weapons.
I used the Dismounter with my Dex/Fth build in PvP reacently, using FLame Art infusion on the flaming strike ash of war. Goodness, that weapon can hit hard. I need to try out the other curved greatswords now! It is perhaps now my favourite weapon class next to Greatspears (Mostly the lance) and spears.
Bloodhounds fang was the 3rd weapon I found on my first playthrough at launch and has preformed well all the way through NG+3 and its ability to vigor check people is amazing.
Great video. I love the Dismounter's look and it was my first weapon of choise on my inital playthough of Elden Ring. I was debating going back to it as a nestolgia palythrough and was wanting to see how it stacked up to other greatswords in it's class. I'll have to check out the Omen Cleaver as well just to fell the difference for myself.
Surprisingly something I have noticed is that almost all of the curved greatswords are equally good. One has some the other lacks which is perfect balance if you ask me.
just for anyone watching this now and wants a monk flameblade, you can get one in the divine tower of caelid, there are a couple of farmable monks with the weapon in there. you don't need to get all the way to the giant conquering hero's grave.
For those interested in spellblade builds: Morgott's cursed sword: pairs well with dragon communion seal due it's arcane scaling and boosting dragon communion incantations also use bloodoath and dragon communion incants for the same reason. Magmawrym scale sword: pairs well with erdtree seal due it's faith scaling, use flame and lightning incantations for the same reason. Zamor curved sword: pairs well with cold sorceries and you could use the weapon skill of the sword instead of the ice storm sorcery and can be used to set spell combos with slicer. Not sure about fundamentalist incantations, use the golden order seal due to it boosting fundamentalist incantations along maybe a sacred or magic infused omen clever due to fundamentalist incantations having split faith and int requirements.
Ask and thy shall receive. Thank you so much for making this one! Now I can look even fancier with the curved sword build I intend on having, tough choice is if I should go with the Zamor one to have maximum fanciness or go with one that can be infused. Kinda wanting a two phase run you know?
For the Onyx Lord's Greatsword, even though it drops near Leyndell, the dungeon it's in (Sealed Tunnel) is manageable early in the game. The Onyx Lord boss is roughly as hard as Margit/Godrick IMO.
Bloodhounds Fang is so easy to get I feel almost guilty using it but frankly I've not found any weapon that I enjoy using more. Except against scaled monsters, it's just so incredible. It's almost as if the devs really want you to use it. I'd like to see a vid on great maces though - I've dabbled a bit into them.
BHF is my girl next door, a sweetheart by any and all definition. My first love before I delve deeper into the depths of ER's arsenal of weapons. Zamor Curved Sword is the quiet girl in class I met in college. She's a little hard to approach and admittedly not everyone's cup of tea, but she's down to have fun once we spent some time together.
It was good the developers threw us at least one good bone like this. New players like me really suck at dodging, rolling and timing all of that perfectly like you see in vids all over YT. I'm OK at it but I still need a little help. Even with a lot of practice, I still can't beat enemies like those Bell Bearing guys and I have a maxed out Bloodfang at level 130. They just rek me every time. It's good to give some players a little help because it encourages us to get better and try new things as confidence builds.
@@RKDriver I kinda feel FromSoft might've been a little too generous. Didn't stop me from using those tools, though. I used whatever it took to beat bosses and run through certain areas. At any rate, I didn't even use the Bloodhound Fang even after I got it my first time. I relied more on katanas, and basically got my butt handed. I am now more familiar with the game and all, but when I decided to give the weapon to my latest character, which was a wretch that I had no idea what kind of build to go for, tree sentinel, dragon, Margit, and Godrick stood no chance. Made me wish I actually used it first before I got the more degenerate weapons at that time. :p
For Bloodhound Fang, you said you should lean towards Strength is you two hand it, but wouldnt you want to level Dex more since two handing will bump your strength anyways?
I fumbled my way through the beginning of my first playthrough with the bloodhound's fang + great turtle shield (worn on my back purely for how it looked). One of the best newcomer's builds IMO.
"Won't be used in a hybrid build..." Excuse me, I love my Morgott's sword arc/dex build with faith sprinkled in for buffs and blood/black flame incantations. It may not be the most optimized one but it's thematic (for me) and I count that as big plus 😅 Great video btw. Love all the content you guys make 👌

Made me wish I actually used it first before I got the more degenerate weapons at that time. :p
I highly recommend the magma wyrm scalesword to anyone. One of the most fun playthrus I’ve had.
I'd honestly love to see great spears and great hammers next.

Please do spears next!
It’s a great morning!

Excuse me, I love my Morgott's sword arc/dex build with faith sprinkled in for buffs and blood/black flame incantations. It may not be the most optimized one but it's thematic (for me) and I count that as big plus 😅
Great video btw. Love all the content you guys make 👌
I would like to see a video on spears or great spears next
