Elden Ring is one of the 1st games I've ever played that truly makes every weapon usable. If you like a weapon, any one at all, you can make it work. So many games throw 100 weapons at you with only 5 of them being worthwhile. Elden Ring you can play however you want to plauy.

Almost everyone recommends using Millicent's Prosthesis in any dex build focused on hitting the enemy in rapid succession, and I can see why. It's a powerful talisman that's practically perfect for that sort of build. But I just can't bring myself to betray Millicent. You should have left him alive he's actually worth more alive if you do the rest of a different quest line at the very end you can meet up with him again and he's a merchant and he'll sell you an ancient dragon smithing Stone one of only 13 in the game. So killing him for petty revenge for a couple of runes that he probably needed to get food cuz they were abusing him and not feeding him properly you really missed out on a way bigger prize. Lol
You can get both talismans by just killing Millicent right before she dies of rot after helping her, so you didn't exactly betray her more like ended her suffering a bit early (it worked in patch 1.04 don't know if it's patched now )
I had decided to farm 2 bandits curved swords, and got lucky enough to get two drops within my first about 15-20 kills. Sometimes fortune smiles upon us!
Personal favorite is the shamshir, but I have to shout out the beast man curved sword. The unique jumping attacks are insane especially when adding claw and raptors cloack. The damage for a single heavy r2 can destroy some mobs with low recovery time making for great potential.

For my own reference: Wing of Astel looks the most unique, powerful weapon with interesting stat spread and multiple options. Occult Scavenger's + Occult/Blood Bandit's (into 2x Scavenger's after NG) looks like the go-to move for a bleed curved sword build. For other strategies besides bleed 2x Bandit's also looks good. Shotel + shield would be an option for a build that aims for less equipment load. Mantis Blade + shield looks like a higher damage version of that playstyle.
For most the game, my favorite sword combo has been Wing of Astel with Cold Serpent God's Curved Sword using Carian Grandeur. It's a very good ash to have in certain situations, but not super often.
Other great talisman to use with curved swords is the godskin swaddling cloth, which regenerates your hp with successive attacks. It can be found in a cave at the freezing lake of the snow place
@@douglasquaid7550 Absolutely! It took me a long time, but the feeling of using every single weapon, armor and spell in the game without worrying about your stats is liberating.
@@marcelo.mm.martins yeah , i know, and sorry if i came across as rude. it's also part of the charm of the game that you always long for using this and that spell/weapon/armor. when that is achieved i would feel sad about not having anything to strife towards, i scrapped a 250h character that i had focused in str/fai because i had nothing left to "play for" when i was using all that i wanted. started over with a int/dex char ,90h in and i'm having a blast again.
Something else I think was left out of this video was how the curved sword class on it's own has a unique type of attack not found in any other class aside from the thrusting sword and heavy thrusting sword classes, called a feint. If you charge an R2, and then try to backstep, you will do a quick flip backwards while slashing at what may be in front of you. This is an excellent way to throw your opponent off guard in PVP, and puts distance between you and your enemy while still dealing damage. It counts as a full backstep, too, so if you're powerstancing curved swords, you can follow it up with a quick dash forward and get in even more hits. With thrusting swords, the input is the same, but rather than a slash, you do a quick thrust while stepping back. This makes it easier to execute a thrust counter while again putting distance between you and your opponent.
Serpent god's sword is a great early game weapon. No matter what build you are trying to do, you can off-hand this sword while using anything else and still get the HP regen, so it works well with any build that hit-trades a bunch. Also it stacks with all of the hp stealing gear from volcano manor.
Definitely using the Scavenger's Curved Sword for a Bloodborne theme build. I wish I could just yank off the head of the Vulgar Militia Saw to really get that Bloodborne esthetic but this will have to do- Plus some beastial incantations on the Dragon Comun. Seal.
small correction here, the shamshir/scimitar do NOT share the default moveset of most curved swords. They have different light AND heavy attack chains, unless power stanced with another curved sword
Awesome coverage on these! It would be cool to see heavy thrusting weapons soon. Ik it’s a small group of weapons and there’s not much room for diversity but if there’s anyone who can find creative and effective ways to run them in PvE it’d be you I’m sure.
You haven't done Curved Great swords yet, wanted to see what was recommended for one of them and was hoping to see if you guys had a video on it, I do enjoy listening to these cuz this video helped me chose between the scimitar and falchion as my starting weapon before wanting to get the flowing curved sword for the R2. (Plus I wanna look fancy af when fighting)
First off, if you're gonna dual-wield curved swords, do yourself a favor and grab the Swaddling Cloth talisman, you'll end up getting a lot of HP from that. - Also... Getting the Scavenger's Curved Sword early on is actually pretty easy. Even from level 1 when you first enter the game, you can very well run to get the two Dectus medallion halves (look up their locations) since they're found in chests, you don't need to fight the bosses to get them. - One of them you get anyway 'cuz it's right next to the Radagon Soreseal. Then run up in Altus, stay on Torrent, go up the ladder and over to grab the sword and you're there. Make it poisonous in an arcane build, and go fetch the Kindred of Rot Exultation, which you can also grab decently early in the game, and you're golden. It's especially great in NG+ like that, since you can run and get the 2nd one right at the start of NG+, and you don't even need to kill Margit to get it. You can get into Liurnia by crossing that shattered bridge with the finger reader crone near the castle, and run along the ledge and past the wolves, and you'll get to the part where you'd exit from Godrick's throne room and touch grace. You can even grab a bunch of golden seeds along the way if it's your first game, but you'll be missing out on some of the early game quests by triggering the "entering Altus Plateau" part of the game which will cause some NPCs to move places. Arcane-Dex build really feels amazing to use though, bleed is great, dragon slap is amazing, you can use Rot Breath to have both rot and poison on enemies at the same time, and the Dragon Communion seal ends up giving you probably the best incantation scaling you can hope for. - Then you can grab the Blood spells like Flies, Bloodfire claw, spellblade that, then switch to the curved swords with something like Bloody Slash (awesome in PvP as well for how much damage it deals all of a sudden), or seppuku. And you have a lot of alternatives of weapons you can swap to whenever you wanna try out something different. - Any weapon with Blood infusion or Keen and Bloodfire Weapon (cross naginata or grave scythe with phantom slash, omfg), the albinauric weapons that have exclusively arcane scaling, the one-handed version of the Executioner's Sword, the serpent bow, the poisonous katana that you can power-stance with Rivers of Blood, cross naginata... If you like to try out different weapons for different move sets without dealing 50 damage swings, then I certainly recommend going this route, and then the poisoned scav's curved sword just ends up being the absolute best thing in the world, imho. - That thing will shit on bosses all the way up to NG+5 with no problem.
The Beastman Curved Sword is the best, imo, because even with blood affinity, they scale with strength primarily. With my str at 80 and arcane at 60, it has 112 bleed buildup and still maintains most of its power. I tried catching a glimpse of my damage after the multi hit talismans kicked in, plus the white mask and bleed talisman, and it was up over 1k damage PER HAND. Combined with proccing blood loss with about 2 L1's, or strapping on the assassin talisman and raptor feathers I was destroying everything. Best part is, you can switch to a big bonk weapon if you're against someone immune to bleed.
Dual wielding Occult Scavenger Curved Sword is absolutely fantastic. I fortunately had a friend who could drop me two of these with the Seppuku ash of war attached at the start of a playthrough, and the amount of damage from a single jumping or running L1 was awe inspiring. Both Omen demigods died before they could even enter their second phase. Didn't get Nihil'd once. Second time ever fighting Melania, first time doing so without Spirit assistance. Killed her first try. Ulcerated Tree Spirits often did not have time to enter their second phase. They were also shockingly good against slash resistant and bleed immune enemies, especially once my arcane got high enough to profitably switch from Bleed to Occult infusion in the mid game. The damage bonuses from multi-hit talismans, Golden Vow and Fire Give Me Strenght meant even theoretically hard-counter enemies weren't that tough. I also love the utility of high arcane builds with just a bit of faith investment. Rotten Breath from horseback really makes up for the sub-par mounted moveset. I am currently doing a Hand Of Melania playthrough, but eventually I definitely want to give Cold infused curved swords or daggers a shot, I found the dual-wield status build so fun.
Don’t sleep on the fact that the strength requirements for a lot of the curved swords are really low. This makes them ideal for Astrologers that don’t want to waste any points at all in strength but do want a good melee option. Shamshir is great for this sort of approach and you naturally can pick up Wing of Astel later. If you’re mostly casting spells, those swords are all you ever need to still have an amazing dual wield melee fallback that weighs almost nothing.
Built a new dex / arcane status build given I’d always been either miracle / cube focused or spell blade in most souls. Incl pushing beyond ng7 with a faith/str/int buiid recently and needed a change. All I can say after trying PS Uchis is they were dumped once I noticed two of these sitting in my inventory in liurnia and giving them some love, they absolutely crush. It applies most affinities very well without sacrificing too much damage. in the case of bleed, but then when using a cold infused main, offhand buckler/bandit with bleed, I thought I’d be searching for the bleed proc once swapping offhand from buckler to bandit bleed, didn’t search for long. First time I’ve melted crucibles in early game, including Tanith’s mental health support worker that i was able to take on comfortably at 40. After having collected 10 RoBs, going to pick one up for this guy and see how it stacks up..
9:18 + 11:02 I think you "kinda" made a mistake there friend. Most curved swords do share the same light attack moveset, however, the Scimitar and the Shamshir are the only curved swords with a "flowing" R1 combo. In the beggining of the breakdown of these swords, you claim that they have the "default" moveset, when the default is actually the one that is most common across the whole weapon class, aka, the Falchion/Grossmesser/Bandit/etc. This moveset being more "flowy" also adds "slightly" more reach to some attacks of the combo. This light attack moveset is yet another reason to wield these weapons.
Wing of Astel is pretty nice as a melee weapon for a mage build, the heavy attack projectiles allow you to stay a bit further away from the enemy and Nebula does really good stagger and compared to most Sorceries with any appreciable stagger capacity it comes out basically instantly.
Personally I use a wing of astel paired with cold bandit curved sword. Works similar to the dragon warrior build where you use talismans to build up AR then release high damage nebulas.
While I'm enjoying all of these spotlight videos I'm bouncing off the walls waiting for Fex to do curved greatswords, and then explain why Bloodhound Fang is the sword I should toss all my other swords for. Which very likely means...I should just equip Bloodhound Fang and get on with my freaking playthrough. Thanks Fex...I needed that!
Bloodhound is an amazing weapon, if you want to powerstance it, try it with morgotts offhand given they have similar reach and you can blood grease / blood flame with the fang and fairly low fth.
Agree 100%, best sword by far. Bandits and Scavenger are the most viable for any build. Scavenger is nice because you can run a bleed build with anything. For example, I started a new toon with a scavenger blade and faith ash. So I get bleed and faith on the same weapon. That way you can run the blood loss stuff as well as faith. Takes things down pretty quickly. Never messed with the Magma Blade, will have to give that a try.
My freeze/strike weapon is the giant crusher. Also have the cestus/spiked for strike dmg as well. If areas have both I carry the cestus with another weapon so I can easily switch for only 2 extra weight. Don't underestimate the cestus/spiked cestus. They attack really fast, do great damage, stagger, and have status effects. The ultimate freeze weapon is deaths poker from the deathbird in caelid
@@jhknightmare5131 I mean there's soo many good builds. If you make it to the snow area get sepukku and use two curved swords with buffs. You'll do like 10kdmg in 3sec. Or ruins greatsword with weapon art spam. Or morgots. Or rivers, bloodhounds, etc. You should be fine for a first playthrough but it's definitely easier to use fast weapons until you get moment down imo
Magma Blade probably benefits from a spellblade sort of build where you invest in Incantations as well. That way you can get pretty decent damage while still taking advantage of spells. Strength/Faith builds work pretty well anyways.
Hey fextra, I'm a huge fan of your channel, have been following your rpg stuff for years, I think the first I saw of you was pillars of eternity guides back in the day. I recently got my hands on Elden Ring and tried out a claymore build. It just feels so, underwhelming. Ranged and magic seem so much better. Which build would you recommend to a new player, trying to max out my fun and OP ness in the game? Cheers mate
Magma blade is pretty bad. took me 4 hours spread over a few days. Now the Noble’s Slender sword has made me question if it’s just a meme and isn’t actually farmable
I had like 100 discovery with none of the items and stuff to help and it only took me 30 mins to get 2. Definitely heard of people having horror stories though.
I had a harder time farming fairly common gear in DS3 compared the two magma blades. Normally I have just the absolute worst luck so I consider this a godsend lol
Im doing a Str-Int build, and want a pair of curved swords for when I feel like doing Frostbite/Fire combos. Would I be better off with dual Falcions or dual Grossmessers? They would both be Cold/Fire infused. This is for early/mid game, so Beastman's cleavers are off the table.
Say: Millicent's Prosthesis makes proper sense, 10 times fast. A joke of course, amazing video as always, I just couldn't help but notice that little tongue twister around a minute in.
Scimitar info seems wrong. From `Elden Ring Wiki` : "This weapon has a unique R1 chain shared with Shamshir, consisting of more graceful, flowing attacks. Functionally very similar to the normal curved sword moveset, yet faster and it does advance the user further."
If you cannot stand fighting Tree Spirits the Magma Blade's Ash of War absolutely DESTROYS them. The pool alone with decent stats takes chunks out of their hp and should you be able to hug up next to them it's lights out or light's up
I never knew about wing of Astel r2 projectile so weird I used the weapon for a whole playthrough and never once did I think to press r2 XD, I guess because the running and jumping attacks are so good that using heavy was not something I considered.
I am new to souls games. Curved swords are my favorite weapons thus far. I find myself wanting to use them over higher damage weapons. Fun > damage for me.
Lmao at 9:20 "Scimitar has default moveset", while literally showcasing its unique moveset only shared with the Shamshir LOL, he said the same thing about Shamshir at 11:00. Youre making theese vids a bit lazily, Fextra

17:39 Flowing Curved Sword
18:34 Serpent-God's Curved Sword
For my own reference:
Wing of Astel looks the most unique, powerful weapon with interesting stat spread and multiple options.
I’m a huge fan of the R2 on the flowing curved sword. Just looks so good
I really appreciate the time he puts into these videos.
I finished the game, got all trophies, and reached the max level a long time ago, but I still watch your videos. Congratulations on the amazing work!
Oh, you must be very proud of yourself,
@@douglasquaid7550 Absolutely! It took me a long time, but the feeling of using every single weapon, armor and spell in the game without worrying about your stats is liberating.
@@marcelo.mm.martins yeah , i know, and sorry if i came across as rude.
it's also part of the charm of the game that you always long for using this and that spell/weapon/armor.
when that is achieved i would feel sad about not having anything to strife towards,
i scrapped a 250h character that i had focused in str/fai because i had nothing left to "play for" when i was using all that i wanted.
started over with a int/dex char ,90h in and i'm having a blast again.
My favourite type of weapons. Thanks you) flowing curved sword r2 is amazing
Been waiting for this video, great work! I'm using 2 x Bandits with lightning infusion this playthrough and I'm melting everything, great fun!
Definitely using the Scavenger's Curved Sword for a Bloodborne theme build.
I wish I could just yank off the head of the Vulgar Militia Saw to really get that Bloodborne esthetic but this will have to do-
Plus some beastial incantations on the Dragon Comun. Seal.
small correction here, the shamshir/scimitar do NOT share the default moveset of most curved swords. They have different light AND heavy attack chains, unless power stanced with another curved sword
2:42 magma blade aow is a valid guard break counter against fingerprint shield
Awesome coverage on these! It would be cool to see heavy thrusting weapons soon. Ik it’s a small group of weapons and there’s not much room for diversity but if there’s anyone who can find creative and effective ways to run them in PvE it’d be you I’m sure.
Yes!
Loved the dodge-roll over pronunciation of "prosthesis"
You haven't done Curved Great swords yet, wanted to see what was recommended for one of them and was hoping to see if you guys had a video on it, I do enjoy listening to these cuz this video helped me chose between the scimitar and falchion as my starting weapon before wanting to get the flowing curved sword for the R2. (Plus I wanna look fancy af when fighting)
Sweet another OP vid. I seem to always learn something new in this series. Thank you for the great vid.
Bro didn’t even notice that scimitar and Shamshir share a unique R1 moveset that’s probably my favorite moveset for curved swords.
rocking the serpent god and a bandit
flame art with blood hound step
Curved Swords are my favorite. I'm partial to the Shotels, they look so cool, and I love dual wielding them!
You didn't mention the unique r1 chain of the shamshir or scimitar, it's much better than the regular r1s of curved swords
We needs these videos faster
I absolutely love the Eclipse Shotel. I really fell in love when I hit NG+ and scored a second one. Dual wielding this beast in PVP is fun!
Hope to see how op are the great spears, love this series, have a lot of neat info on the weapons.
Everyone knows how op those weapons are. Well Everyone that has faced a big rolling fatty that is.
Really enjoy this series.
Duel curve swords bleed build was my favourite play through! 😍
The one time when this series' title is not clickbait
Platinumed this months and months ago, hoping for dlc news soon
Scavenger with cold and the magma blade proc everything for days
The shamshir just feels good for some reason
Great vid man, do you think wing of astel can be power stanced for new game +2 or +3?
Thrusting Swords next? I’ve been liking the Moveset a lot recently
Waiting on the heavy thrusting straight sword. OP.
Magma blade is one of my favorites I just hate the farm. I really want to use 2 of them but the drop rate is horrendous
The magma blades are my favorite. They catch a lot of people off guard with the AoW
Appreciate it 🙏
The Beastman Curved Sword is the best, imo, because even with blood affinity, they scale with strength primarily.
Shamshir has a unique R1 Moveset, it is not the same as the others.
Dual wielding 2 bandits curved sword with occult just melts everything
What armor torso are you wearing with the nox sword? The red and blue with chain mail
I'm surprised you didn't notice that not all the curved swords have the same R1 chain.
@Fextralife
The R1 chain of the Scimitar is NOT the same as other curved swords, hence their usefulness despite their lower damage stats.
After having collected 10 RoBs, going to pick one up for this guy and see how it stacks up..
need to see colossal swords next
9:18 + 11:02 I think you "kinda" made a mistake there friend.
Most curved swords do share the same light attack moveset, however, the Scimitar and the Shamshir are the only curved swords with a "flowing" R1 combo.
In the beggining of the breakdown of these swords, you claim that they have the "default" moveset, when the default is actually the one that is most common across the whole weapon class, aka, the Falchion/Grossmesser/Bandit/etc.
This moveset being more "flowy" also adds "slightly" more reach to some attacks of the combo. This light attack moveset is yet another reason to wield these weapons.
ah neat ive been looking for this one
as usual, great stuff
I did a play through with dual wield scavenger and serpent swords. It was fun.
Thus is the first "****** is the best weapon type in elden ring" that I agree with
Wing of Astel is pretty nice as a melee weapon for a mage build, the heavy attack projectiles allow you to stay a bit further away from the enemy and Nebula does really good stagger and compared to most Sorceries with any appreciable stagger capacity it comes out basically instantly.
Wing of Astel is amazing. Depending on what I was fight,as a battlemage, I used Wing of Astel or Dark Moon Greatsword.
So, I went and got a Magma Blade. Wish I had gotten one sooner. Pretty incredible.
Can you please do hammers/great hammers next
I’m trying to find a good strike weapon to use for an Ice knight playthrough
My freeze/strike weapon is the giant crusher. Also have the cestus/spiked for strike dmg as well. If areas have both I carry the cestus with another weapon so I can easily switch for only 2 extra weight. Don't underestimate the cestus/spiked cestus. They attack really fast, do great damage, stagger, and have status effects. The ultimate freeze weapon is deaths poker from the deathbird in caelid
@@stompingpeak2043
Thanks!
I’ve been trying out great stars and been having good success but since I’m in Atlus I’ll hunt down that hammer
I ran dex/faith and on boss enemies weak to fire Flame Grant me Strength and Golden Vow seemed like overkill, it's really good
Ran it at ng6 with 80 str, fth and 60 dex. Was going over 1300 AR esch hand and absolutely melted maliketh and the blaidd of moghulla.
FromSoftware really had to just reskin the Demon's Scar from ds3 for the magma blade
Looking forward to Curved Greatswords
I like the magma swords. The stagger
Rate is
Awesome
@9:55 OR if you want to cosplay Drizzt Do'Urden?
I've been waiting for this
I wanna do curved sword build for my NG+
For the god serpent curved sword, your spirit ashes dying triggers the healing, so large group summons are a definite plus with that thing
Cheers mate
Moonveil Katana
The magma blade is great but good luck getting it, probably the worst farm in the game
I had 80 discovery and got two within 10 minutes..
I had a harder time farming fairly common gear in DS3 compared the two magma blades. Normally I have just the absolute worst luck so I consider this a godsend lol
I had a dex/faith build and thought they had better dex scaling. Turns out they are strenght weapons instead 🤡
A Scavenger’s Cold Curved Sword +25 with Wings of Astel +10 are a devastating pair when using Bloodhound Step
The pool alone with decent stats takes chunks out of their hp and should you be able to hug up next to them it's lights out or light's up
@John Hooper yes? more fire?
I would say halberds are but still cool video as always
I never knew about wing of Astel r2 projectile so weird I used the weapon for a whole playthrough and never once did I think to press r2 XD, I guess because the running and jumping attacks are so good that using heavy was not something I considered.
You forgot the fact that on the wing of Astel the r2 or rt while charging if you press o or b you can dodge back and still hit or send a projectile
Can you do spear next ?
I am new to souls games. Curved swords are my favorite weapons thus far. I find myself wanting to use them over higher damage weapons. Fun > damage for me.
Another solid vid. Repeat after me: Seh-poo-koo
Lmao at 9:20 "Scimitar has default moveset", while literally showcasing its unique moveset only shared with the Shamshir
LOL, he said the same thing about Shamshir at 11:00. Youre making theese vids a bit lazily, Fextra
6:21 what incantation is that??
