Instead of saying "stock block," just say stock casting. That's what it is. Problem solved. The issue is when you talk about stock block in the car community, what you've done to the block falls far outside of the meaning of the term.
Welcome to furd guy world. They've been hollering stock block shit for a eternity because their junk shit was so modded to stay together the only thing left was the casting.
Newsflash.....if it needs girdles, fillers, sleeves, o ringed and uber amounts of machining.....it's not a stock block. It's a modified block.
Only people who don’t shit about cars get confused when they hear “stock block”.
thanks for this video John, I may have learned something today (now if I can only remember it tomorrow)
Trust me once those parts are inside the block you dont want to be able to see them again.:)
I did not know that! Thank you for the edgufication on the difference between the two.
Badass keep up the work Doc!
Good info on the traditional oring vs the hoop setup. Great content.
Thanks for the insight john
Wow!! Those connecting rods are massive!! Reminds me of Top Fuel con rods.
Very good info !! This is pretty awesome
Great video man for sure well said
Awesome vid!
Very knowledgeable appreciate his advice and knowledge
Great video, lots of information.
I totally understand the Seamless hoop in head and receiver groove in block set up and that is F#!king bad ass!!!! Great idea guys that is awesome!!! TKM for the win!!
You did hear him say there are a few shops that do that not just them
NHRA has been doing that for a while. Its just crazy to see it needed on a small block. That's alot of cylinder pressure witch means alot of horsepower! Some serious volumetric efficiency with 45-60 psi of boost haha thats awesome!!
It's great But Steve Morris is the man he's been on this for years now. Good job !TKM
I just welded my heads to my block. 100 psi. Whatcha got for me?
Unfortunately Cleetus mcfarlands TSP engine managed to make 34-36lbs of boost before lifting a head. If this guy runs 40lbs and has no issues i will eat my own fucking socks.
@@ritchardposterior262 i call bullshit because there is no way
@@Cherokee93 You call bullshit on him running 34-36 lbs or the guy above eating his socks? You do realize you can simply watch the video right? It was when he ran his fastest time which at the time was the first 6spd gm car in the 7's.
that needs to be tested :-)
@@ritchardposterior262 Cleetus did not have the hoop he had the wire
Great vid.
Those con rods are a work of art
John this is amazing!! How long did the motor lasted or its still our racing???!
Make sure you post the 🤯kaboom video 💯👌🏾
Going to order one of those lamb cams. Im building a L33 5.3 rods, pistons, arp everything and a single 80mm.
Awesome engines . You won't have a lack of power now . As far as stock block goes remember agent orange is out there with a stock block a tic away from the 6's .
Can we get a "top fuel hoop" counter @ the top of the screen 😛
A really great video and thank you! Is some thick grease used to hold hoop in place in head during assembly or do they kinda snap in
Charlie Brown they press into the heads
I used a dremo tool on the sharp edges on block, so according to the butthurts, it’s no longer staik! Sweet!
I personally don't care, but that's not what people are butthurt about. It's the fact that his block is sleeved, and it looked like his coolant passages were filled. Once again, idc... but they have a point. Not really a stock block.
I run a standard o-ring on my 12 valve Cummins with arp studs and my compound turbos push 70 psi and my head gasket hasn’t blown yet so that is plenty for your 60 psi.
That is so cool that they are using hoops instead of wire on the heads for a better seal and longevity! so next time I have head work done, I'll be asking for some "HOOPTIE" heads :) lol
Its called orings
John Doc I have to take my hat off to you on this one John😀 I spoke to Kevin on the phone the other day and it wasn't clear to me what the Top Fuel Hoop entailed THANKS for info.🤜👍
The info shown today makes me want them in my 5.3 even more.
Can't wait to see it in the carbon fiber salty chicken!
If you put 60 pounds of boost through that engine you want have to worry about the heads but you'll be getting a new block.
1320 Vid of a 5.0 302 with Hemi heads machined on it ripping the drag strip up pretty good lol
I think either one of the car's needs to be renamed hooptie or the next one built with a top fuel hoop engine should be.
Top fuel hoops, need to see if they can do this for a 3800 series II head. I want to push 1000rwhp with the 3800 block.
This looks far superior to the Athena head gaskets where they dig into the head and you have to mill them every time.
Can they build some hoops that work in place of a rotary rotor housing o-rings? 13b
DA JEWELRY YO!!!!
Out of all that DAMN TALKING WE still don't know the price!!!!
TKM probably gonna have a deal with Jon. Get off your ass and call TKM with your specs and find out lol.
dont know how you going to brake the 5.3 record without telling times lol
Is the groove thats cut in the block larger for the ring and gasket to sink in
If you're putting turbos on the Hemi they have to be at least 102mm and up John!
That block looks great. Damn John I can't wait till you and Ben get that together. And besides if it blows up and puts a rod through it you can always use it as a giveaway somebody could put a piece of glass on top of it and use it for a coffee table the block. I know a guy that has old panhead Harley-Davidson motors he's got them in display cases glass & he uses them for end tables at the end of his couche they light up they look cool at night.
I’m gonna top fuel hoop my stock ls1. Prob pick up 150 wheel
Thought you were going to announce the winner for the swag pack when you were at tkm?
Just wondering what type of rods were that ya'll used on the build
Turbo John, Good evening. I am new to your station. I see all the work being done for you. What do you do? Are you a hot rod shop? Race car builder? Thank you for your time. David “Hands” T. And I really enjoy your videos.
What do you do Hands? I'm genuinely curious
Cool dude
I have a Buick 455 engine, and the 455 is known for blowing head gaskets... I will soon be getting a set of TA Stage 1, aluminum heads. And a set of forged aluminum pistols with a compression ratio of 10:05 to 1.... I would like to know if your o- ring would work to seal my engine??? Thank you
Can you use the hoops for heavy nitrous stock blocks?
Its not rocket appliances block looks good!
Those rods look like they belong in a top fuel or funny car! Damn they are big.
Chad J it is a old top fuel motor
Blackphillbuilt well that explains it then, thanks! Looking forward to the videos of y’all laying down some numbers and my 8.2 deck nasty shirt.
I am curious which motor would be practical for high boost application. 350, 383, 400, 427, 454, 496, thank you.
The " Top Fuel Hoops " are still OLD Diesel Technology.... They were called fire rings . they had a Stainless Steel Jacket on them , if you cut off the jacket , it was an oval endless SS ring . There hasnt been Any New advances in engine tech since the 40's . No Magic ....Except Electronics ....
Now I want too fuel hoops in my SBE 6.0 to impress the ladies!
ladies is stretching the term if they are impressed by hoops
Run what ever gets you down the track fastest turbo , blower, Fred Flinstone feet lmao
All you need is some Twin Flinstones Power, Fred n Barny on some Meth, just no burnouts as smouldering feet would not smell so good.
My advice guys let the pros put your hoops in I've seen some friends go down that road with a local shop and it was a nightmare take it to TKM or check around and find the few other shops that do it the right way! Trust me on this one you'll thank me later!🦅🇺🇸🦅
Stock block does not mean stock bottom end.
Who else thinks the hemi is going to the Salty Chicken? Would be sweet in my opinion. Not to many of that combo that i know of
I’m definitely going to be contacting them about there too fuel hoop definitely but bad thing I’m in pa
So ship that bitch bo. We're talking probably adding 500-800 more HP to your car if you can basically double the boost.
Nice GN does it still run the turbo 6?
How much does the top fuel hoops service cost?
call tkm? lol!
The people that dislike this video are the same one that said a top fuel hoop is the same as a O-Ring or firing Ring 🤷🏾♂️
Facts Phil!!! Hit them with them facts!!!
with a stock 5.3 running boost and potentially doing 700hp rwh. do i need to have this?
The top fuel hoops are bad azz.....
Is that block cast iron?
How effective is the hoop if your using Nitrous
Here's my take on the stock, vs modded thing, anything you do (boring, milling whatever) takes it away from stock. May as well throw the screws to it, if you are going that far. I don't see a problem
Your take is wrong because everyone who actually makes hotrods would tell you that you're wrong.
What a "modded thing" exactly? Blocks are either stock...as in made by a manufacturer as a block for 100s of thousands of cars or there are aftermarket blocks that are produced for engine builders for race cars. Modding doesn't change a block from stock to aftermarket because the block...is still the same stock block you started with. You're confusing doing changes to a block with it's official classification. They're not the same thing. You're comparing apples to oranges.
Takes away from the stock? WTF does that fucking mean? IT's a GM stock block. Perhaps if you knew much about racing and knew that there are engine builders like BAE (we run a BAE Hemi), Musci, Sonnys and all sorts of dudes who make their own NOT STOCK blocks. Then you have general motors. It makes 5.3 and 6.2 and all sorts of STOCK blocks because they are made by Gm and are stock. Sprinkle whatever you want to over a block, it's still either an aftermarket or its a stock effing block.
Maybe tale an engine course at your local college and get educated versus what you personally want to think? Your personal opinions aside, it's a stock block with new sleeves and bored for that top fuel hoop. That's it.
That's horseshit!!! With your thinking you'd call an ERL block a stock block! To be technically correct these are factory blocks that have been modified and some way more so than others! I think it all comes down to how much a person wants to invest in one of these! There comes a point where it just makes way more sense to go to an aftermarket block such as a Dart or one of the other offerings. I'm pretty sure the most correct way to refer to an engine build such as this one would be to refer to it as a modified factory block. Hardly a stock block in which most people would refer to as a "stock block"! Yeah, the casting is stock, but that's about it!!!! Now if this happens to offend anyone, you can go cry or go find your safe space!!! Dealing with some of you millennials just cracks me up!!!
@@dragstriprace1255 Stock block or aftermarket block. There are but two types of blocks you can use. I know I'm having to repeat myself with you because you're wrong but there are only two types of blocks. Stock or aftermarket.
What's a round about cost of this.... not exact just round about
Even better than a hoop is the gas filled Wills ring.
whath did you use to fill the block
I love the fact every time you say stock block or top fuel hoop somebody is but hurt. Lol hilarious
Can anyone explain why stock block is even a thing?
@@Avalanche2 Cuz Ford Fuqtrad Fanbois had only that to hold onto.... Even though their logic of what a "stock" block was, is quite contradictory to what was actually being used.
A1. Topnotch. Engine machine facility.
Fuel pump and injectors are going to be working on this beast!
Why does his shirt say Conbread instead of Cornbread ???
TF hoop with no gap= mo' gap at the track.
Turbo John gonna get the smoke!
Yup I'll be eating at Gapplebees !!!
Stock junkyard 5.3ls SWEAR TO GAWD
There are production gen 2 LT1 blocks making from 1100 - 1500 to the wheels. I want to see a production genIII/IV block hold 1500+ hp!!! Btw funny how Ppl cant decipher between sbe and stock (production) block lmao.
Anyone else notice they keep calling him "Cornbread" but his shirt actually says "Conbread"???
BuiltNotBought gotta say it with some soul brotha!!!
Please John DOC donate or gofundme
a set of descent head's for
Turbo John 🤑🙏
who the f is named conbred that is some funny shit right there
Let's clarify stock stock. Running stock factory parts not anything other then factory
Is the top hoop only applied to the block only or both block and head....
Its machined into the block and head then with the head gasket in the middle. It's a hoop gasket hoop sandwich.
Boosted rooster needs some hoops????
Garrett Mitchell AKA cleetus McFarland he called it a finos maybe wrong spelling Thanos?
What car is it in, cant find anything new on it
Will it work in my Honda?
Show me the Dyno sheet.
Does tkm stand for ... (the Kevin Mullins) , how much do you think that block weighs now that is has a lil bit of concrete in it?.......thing is gonna ripp........fuck that hemi....chevy power all day baby
You changing the mains? or leaving them stock size? Pinning?
Nope just sending it
if u want to try that kind of boost i would start with a diesel engine convert the heads and motor for gas then u have a lot more bolts to hold it together other then that no way will it handle 60 lb. of boost or the top fuel guy's would all ready be doing it and i bet they have a lot more money too work with .
It will handle 60 pounds of boost. How else do u think people are getting 80 pounds of boost on a four cylinflder
Is a copper spray coating used on the gasket?
Why? After all it's a filled block!
modified factory block
How much do you have in this engine?
Keep the gear-driven blower. Some of the charm of the hemi combo is the fact that it's not another turbo car like the rest of the stuff y'all run.
Yes unless the Procharger is gonna buy you dinner every time you use it. Great front end power but she doesn't keep building like turbos do down the track. There's a point where a couple 98s will be pushing way more topend than a PC will.
@@Chris_Harris Unless you make more power and stick it early in the run, where small gains make a bigger difference, like a centrfugal supercharger does.
@@rizzoid Ummm not with tuirbos with co2 off the hit. 60 foot just the same...the blower will come on with more power after that but by the stripe, a turbo car could have 10 plus mph on him and thats a big deal when the turbos aren't losing much off the middle.
Why you think NHRA made racers use 98mm turbos with limited boost despite 108s and a hell of a lot more boost being available for those 527 Hemis? Roots blowers and nitrous would be WRECKED by the turbo cars now that gen2 turbos with sleeved bearings are out and so good.
Are you meaning stock displacement cuz those look like performance parts
There's only one "part" that has been labeled "stock" and that is the block itself, nothing else!
if your 5.3 already came with sleeves and you just put new ones in, the block is still stock, because the sleeve is actually not the block..
Even if you filled it, it's still a stock block.
Nope not necessarily the case. The factory blocks come with less expensive cast iron sleeves and if they are being replaced with the much better Ductile sleeves then it's not really the same. Cast iron sleeves are way more prone to cracking versus Ductile sleeves.....
Just watched an earlier video showing the sleeves used, and the are indeed some Dorton Ductile Iron sleeves. Much, much better sleeves for sure!!! Thus why they are going this route. In my opinion since they were doing so much work for this block they should go all the way and replace the main caps while they are at it with some billet caps along with pinning them for stability down there!!! The weak link will always be the one to give up!!!
@@dragstriprace1255 yeah i think they reffer to the block as all the aluminium that was one part in the original casting, everything that can be taken of without removing material is technically not the block... but i agree with you. Andductile iron is in fact a cast iron, only a different type of cast iron than your typical ''cast iron''
Factory block does not equal stock block.
je pistons?
I beg to differ guys🙏🤔 it is very difficult for a blower to compete with a Turbocharger with CO2 on the gates🤷🏼♂️
it can't unless the turbo boost is limited, turbo size is limited and they put more weight on the turbo car.
Is it a stock block, or does it have modifications made. It's 1 or the other.
Or is a gm block. And not like a dart or something. Would you call a 427 ls3 a stock block? Or would you prefer people to say it's not stock but it's the ls3 that originally came in this exact vette and we bored and stroked it. Think how stupid this conversation looks.
You are talking about your 427 ls3 camaro. And I ask.
Stock block?
No.
Dart?
No. It's the block that came in the car stock in fact its actually the original block when I got it new. We just bored it out and threw longer stroke crank in it.
So how's that not considered a stock block?
Same with heads. There not stock heads because they are ported.
But they are ported gm castings that were used in production engines and not like a set of trick or whatever?
Yes
How is that not called a stock head? Be spicific and say ported stock head and stroked stock block. But keep the word stock tied to it.
So is an lsx block, but that's not stock in anything. Stock block means unmodified, production block from a production vehicle. There's no 2 ways about it.
You're missing the point. People do call the lsx block a "stock block"
Like I said the different is at the aftermarket line.
I agree with you to a point. If you say you hold a stock engine record it has to be all production parts. But if you say you hold a stock block record. That means you can have aftermarket rotating assembly in it. Not to be confused with stock bottom end. Witch is factory rotating assembly.
The line is most definitely gray and wide. It is this way because of different options on the matter.
Awesome, so my heavily modified car is now considered stock because it has a stock shell. It's gonna be fun competing in stock class again, winning every event without even having to try!
Good luck on the race with your very narrow vision.
Try not to drop a valve in that ohv
