Lol, I love when Jocko gives one word answers 🤣
I'm genuinely impressed by Chris's interviewing skills.
He's a human bookmarker. It makes his content very efficient digestible. His channel is spirulina powder for the soul.
I agree
im not
What do you like specifically?
If this clip is any indication, I'm not. It's getting tiring watching the same guys do a circle of Rogan, this guy, Lex, Jocko, Haberman, Malice. If you're gonna do that, or interview someone like Jocko who has surely thousands of hours of podcast material, then you gotta ask questions we won't easily know Jocko's answer to. Here it's very obvious what Jocko's answers are gonna be so it's totally boring for the audience, and probably Jocko (hence one word answers..)
Dealing with that "yes."
Chris is a pro-fucking-fessional
It almost feels like jocko published Chris for asking a closed question.
@@toonvincke9131 Yeah defo
Seemed almost like he was testing him
@@jeddy_bravo Naw, Jocko does that in most of his interviews. If he doesn't feel the need do elaborate, he won't elaborate.
I listen to him and Goggins every morning, even the motivation videos. Its not for 'motivation' but rather a reminder. It reminds me of why I'm trying to better my life and become harder. Its closer to inspiration rather than motivation. The videos remind me of why I'm inspired to work harder and that creates discipline
“Just do the thing!” I love the simplicity of Jocko’s wisdom. It reminds me of a motivation video I watched of his and he was like, “You get wet, you get cold; whatever!” Whatever! Just do the thing!
Discipline equals freedom. Motivation, just do it. Courage involves risk.
As a college student his line about assignment hanging over your head from Friday to Sunday really does ruin your weekend. Jocko managed to motivate me yet again!
You don’t need anyone to motivate you develop the discipline from pushing yourself to your limits every fucking day, STAY HARD
He’s not only the soundtrack to a lot of motivation compilation videos he’s also the perfect example. 🇺🇸
He just told you to be disciplined, not motivated. Get it?
@@billbradleymusic sure do. I liked the part where Chris said: “If you do the thing when you’re feeling unmotivated that is motivation.” ie disciplined. 🙂
Chris: “So how was your day today?”
Jocko: “Yes”
The problem with saying, "Be disciplined" is that many people don't know how. Many people think it means nonstop work when it really means setting up a sustainable schedule where you block off time for work, self improvement and play.
Jocko dont play no games
@@tomik6537 Jitsu & Surfing?
There is no set way to be disciplined. It’s different for you than it is for me. It’s different for Jocko than it is for Chris. You don’t have the “right” answer
I love how Jocko gives one word answers during podcasts lol
There's a difference between motivation & discipline.
The former is desirable; the latter is essential.
Other way around, bucko.
@@BiscuitZombies Corrected. (This is what I wished to say in the first place. Thanks for correcting me!)
Love Jocko & just heard Zach Telander ref this onnthe Power Project podcast. So now I've subbed to this one & hope it's not just on YT.
Woah. This is for SURE going in my next Jocko motivational video.
Love this video
Just do the thing
"I got a message from a viewer... saying his dog died. Good! Thats good! That's an opportunity!"
(Just joking around I love Jocko)
I can tell you actually listen to his podcast from that comment alone. Props.
@@owenhunt the source is this parody video"watches Jocko Wilink once" by Captain Sinbad ua-cam.com/video/XkR5EdT5LKk/v-deo.html
LOL that "anxiety cost" bit (around 2:20) reminded me of having conversations with my very cerebral five year old as he mentally circles and dances around a problem:
F.Y.O "It's like [insert 5 min analysis and explanation that eventually reaches the conclusion that he needs to just do the thing]"
Me (totally ripping Jocko), "Yea, discipline equals freedom" 🤣
Do what you’re supposed to do, simple as that folks.
"Just get up and do it, thats discipline, not motivation"
Who is this word ninja? He just motivated me by saying that 🤣🤣🤣
This about to be in a motivational video
Me: This is definitely true, I can't depend on a state of mind to do things
My Mind: I know, right? This is very inspirational, isn't it?
Me: YEAH!
My Mind: ...
Me: Wait... No! I mean... that's the point. I don't need to feel like this to do stuff!
My Mind: ...
Me: This going to be my new motivational video now, isn't it?
My Mind: Just hit replay already and make it easier for both of us will you?
I watch Jocko motivation videos😂it’s not that I need it, but it’s kinda like the difference between water and pre-workout drink. Jocko is the pre-workout: ya don’t need it but it sure gives you a nice boost😎
There is actually a magical state you have to be in, it is focus. If you have to get 5 things done today, set an order, and then think about nothing else BUT the first thing on the list. No side quests, no bullshit, it's either rest or do the thing. Once you got it done, focus on the next thing. This is nothing fancy or worth a motivational video, with dramatic music, it's just how to get shit done in real life.
-- Discipline eats motivation for breakfast
He is excellent
Ya do it or you don't do it. Ya do it.
Jocko did NOT seem like a good interviewee in this episode. Good on you Chris for hanging in there.
He's not used to not being able to push around his Co host
Jocko was great. Stop for a second a liste to the actual questions. Did he even get a single real question?
A wise man once said "just do it"
Haha this is a cracking clip. Never thought about motivation in this way
If it works it works
My little brain 🧠 agrees 👍🏼
hello. i ask permission that i use this audio for our content. thanks
I can't wait until this gets made into a motivational video with dramatic music.
If motivation is driven by others and ego its not so fun. I guess most people operate this way? But if your motivation is driven by the weather maybe like a gardener, then its a whole different deal.
For me, real courage involves doing something risky AND not feeling too afraid to do it. So I would disagree with Sam here.
Sam's definition of courage, for me, is more like the beginning of courage. It's how you get courageous. But you need to make it a habit until it becomes almost normal to do these things.
Courage is not built with one great action. It is built over years of effort (not necessarily every day).
If you don't feel some anxiety doing something risky, then it's not courage but something else, like recklessness?
Discipline is useful only insofar as it serves *habits*. I'm sure this is what he means but I suspect many people think you need to brute force difficult, busy days on the daily but the reality is many people aren't wired to do so and continually fail, spiraling down further than before. Establish habits, and then you need a lot less discipline.
I get it. Just do the thing but I’m embarrassed of the way my little brain thinks
TMW someone defines motivation as "excitement" then says discipline is better. Discipline depends on motivation. Motivation is the desire to achieve a goal. A motivation (a motive) is someone's reasons for doing something (pursuing a goal). Developing and maintaining a positive habit (being disciplined) is a goal. Completing a task is a goal. The desire to achieve those goals is motivation. The goals themselves are also motivations (motives; reasons to act).
What a lot of people want, what these "Get Disciplined!" Folks are criticizing, is excitement. The need or desire to be excited and happy. An "oh yeah let's do x!" Attitude. Being excited isn't a requirement to do things. Motivation, expressed through discipline, is. Separating discipline and motivation shows a misunderstanding of what both words mean. They don't compete. Discipline comes out of motivation.
Those 4am wake ups clearly don't make Jocko look younger😅
GOOD
speaking of sam harris, why not have him on?
On that note, you need to have Sam Harris on.
Jocko - You need to get back to what you do best - SERVICE. If you have the materialistic comfort you sought after becoming a public figure and executing your business plan - let's GET IT and enter a portion of service like politics. It's not a question of whether you like the option but rather can you contribute in a positive fashion in the political arena!!??
I think motivation is over emphasized. If it leads to discipline, fine. Most of the normies need motivation, at some level, in the beginning of their training journey. If they were already disciplined, they would already be swole and ripped.
I can tell by reading this comment that you have a long road ahead of you my friend lol
Under 5 minutes I stopped being a bitch and decided to maintain the discipline of working on my video projects.
Chris did really well with Jocko's standoffish one-word answers. Not an easy interview with a guy who obviously doesn't respect you.
I get that Chris is not Seal-material, and has gone down a very different path than what Jocko would choose, but if you think the guy spends too much time looking at his own reflection (which he almost certainly does), why go on his podcast?
Did he openly say that? Was trying to work out why Jocko was being a jerk
I might submit you’re reading some awkwardness as standoffishness. Further, this is some of the best stuff Chris has done, and yet, if you pay attention he sort of answers his own points quite a lot in some of these points, and so Jocko is capitulating; why belabor a point? :) not to be contrarian, only, i read this entirely differently , but I’ve also watched quite a ridiculous amount of footage from both of them and maybe that is lending a different perspective? Either way; good stuff :)
@@IvarTheBoneless101 No, just appears that way. Why else would Jocko give shutdown one-word answers? He does his own podcast so he knows fully how bad that is for the conversation.
@@iamgates7679 But one-word answers? It's an automatic conversation shutdown. If Chris wasn't calm and gathered in the moment it could just flop completely. I lost some respect for Jocko after watching this.
@@mightbefire yeah agreed, it doesn’t seem like standoffishness, it’s purposeful. Even if he didn’t have much to say, try to keep the conversation flowing or ask your own better question straight back
Get a dog!!!
It won’t be about you and morning-leisure when you wake up. The dog needs to “go” and you have to get out and take the dog for a walk outside. It’s learning to do it when you least want to do it and there is no time of the day you least want to do anything than when you just woke up.
Uploaded 34 seconds ago lol
I could do without the fruity dubstep at the end, especially when talking about men's issues
A lot of these guys are on stims. It’s not discipline.
