you do realise if you didn't havr the nescessary brain chemicals/emotions for motivation you would literally be a birck wall. To have discipline you need a reason which gives you motivation, maybe small amount but motivation regardless.

  • @Razear

People like to think of success as something that happens overnight, but that's seldom the case. It's years of developing microhabits that add up and snowball over time. That's how hypersuccessful people organize their day, following a schedule and making sure they accomplish everything before they can go to bed. Not adhering to any structure is what causes people to drift off aimlessly and become nihilistic.

I was so proud with my parents. They had died. When they still exist, they put me into their discipline. Not only discipline, they also always explain to me why they do the discipline to me. For instance, I remember when I was grade 4 on elementary school, and I always woke up late around 6 am. But my mom always woke up at 4 am early in the morning and she was sat down on my bed and wake up me. My mom encourage me to prepare some lesson that I will learn at school for that day. So many discipline that I had learnt from my parents. Currently I was felt weird if my partner no discipline at all.

Discipline has another aspect that is not often talked about: Joy. Without discipline there would be nothing to look forward to - nothing to concentrate on - nothing to do - no reason for even to stretch muscles - nothing menorable to remember - nothing fruitful to think about - no joy - nothing to live for. No JOY.

Is it too late to become disciplined? After years of heavy drinking and smoking weed, (always mixed with tobacco) I feel older and more burned out than I should do (I'm only 34), but there is still a burning life energy inside. However my burnt out and damaged body is tired and completely out of sync with this energy. Its like trying to charge a phone, but the power socket is switched off. The realisation of wasted time is overwhelming

It’s not wasted time if we grow and learn from our experience and turn it to the good. But don’t try to bear your cross alone, there is help and community and spiritual nourishment out there!

Believing that the self is always right about every subject ... is not "being disciplined. It is being arrogant ... as there are many ways of perceiving.
Example ... Pearl Buck’s parents were Christian missionaries.
    From the book … Pearl S. Buck-My Several Worlds … published 1954.
I was old enough now to read history for myself and I perceived that Chinese history and English ones gave entirely different versions not only of the same events, but of each other, and that each despised the other as a lesser breed, although neither knew what the other was. I became mentally bifocal and so I learned early to understand that there is no such condition in human affairs as absolute truth. There is only truth as people see it, and truth, even in fact may be kaleidoscopic in its variety. I could never belong entirely to one side of any question.

Since childhood I have had my integrity, being true, honest to the point that if I don’t mean it , I will not say it. I mean what I say and say what I mean. I have discipline but i don’t want anything. My mind was kinda broken with the bad since that’s what sticks the most to us. I didn’t believe in good because of all the bad. I didn’t think good could prevail and look at the government right now. I gave up before even starting. When even your parents and siblings wish you dead what would you feel. I retreated into games and hid my good so it didn’t get taken. I put up a wall of mean anger and hid my good behind it so it didn’t get hurt. Im a mask of monster defending that little good i have left. I don’t want to be that though. I want to help people even when they can’t help themselves. I don’t wanna be on tv or anything, i just wanna be better and help everything be better.
If you want to be better, i think, the first step is confessing to yourself. Be honest with yourself. No goal is too big. I believe in you.

Dear Dr. Peterson, the work you produce is unmatched at this time and truly something more people should know about...BUT! These kinds of short video's with terrible stock footage ruin the essence of an otherwise great explanation. I can hardly take these video's serious no matter what there might be said. The music and dramatic stock footages makes you look like you try to be some kind of bad guy. Something you are absolutely not, you are clinical psychologist/public speaker/teaher who is amazing at adressing and overcoming social-and personal issues. We need you Jordan Peterson, no one else.

What did you mean by primary discipline? Like one main aspect that gets the person regimental?

What about freedom people that go and live in a camper van and just experience the world ,why make sense out of life when it makes no sense ,if you can live with little and function , if your not happy with life do your own thing its not all about attainment we are all different creatures do what makes you happy 👍👍
